I got an idea. There are many ‘Lamb of God’s’ that are not appropriate for use during the consecration i.e. the words do not bear the ICEL label or are just too wordy.

Some examples are Marty Haugen’s MOC Lamb, Dan Schutte’s Lamb of God Litany and others that add verses. The songs are beautiful and it’s sad to just not do them. So, occasionally, I am going to use a Lamb of God such as these as a first communion song. They are usually only a couple minutes long and the refrains are antiphonal so the faithful, hopefully, will sing as they approach the Altar to receive.

I got hired to plan a Quince Anos Mass and to also sing at same. 😃 I’ll be doing it accapella.

I think I will steal your idea here and sub this one instead for “Ring of Fire”. I like that selection for this Mass.

Seeing as next Sunday is “Respect Life Sunday” I think it’s appropriate to add some songs pertaining to life, i.e. “For the Beauty of the Earth”, “I Sing the Mighty Power of God,” etc.

This is what my music director has:

Preparation of the Gifts: #393 You Are the Healing Soper
Communion Hymn: #362 I Received the Living God LIVING GOD
Recessional Hymn: #592 They’ll Know We Are Christians Scholtes :eek:

“You Are the Healing” will be a new one for us next weekend. What do you think of it?

Your analysis hits the mark, I think. But for Offertory or Communion a more meditative-style hymn can sometimes be appropriate. I haven’t heard the music to this one, but maybe it fills that role.

That’s enough for me not to like the song, another part of the OCP arsenal. I am not a huge fan of “They’ll Know We are Christians.” About four years ago, I was driving from College Station to Houston and I heard this song.

Offetory: Where Charity and Love Prevail
Communion: I Received the Living God
Recessional: Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service

Given the fact that my dad’s parish will be having a blessing of the animals that Sunday afternoon and that it’s also Respect Life month, All Creatures seems to be very appropriate, as is Where Charity and Love Prevail.

They’ll Know We Are Christians predates Tusk by 11 years, so I’m not sure you can really lay the blame there. If you want to hear the original version of the song, BTW, go to the 18:40 mark of this mp3. I can’t really say I notice any similarity between it and Tusk.

I’m on/off with “They’ll Know We Are Christians”. At times I like it, at others I don’t. The last verse of the song isn’t that bad, actually.
 
I ran across an older translation of “Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether.” I almost wish we could use that for Mass down here. It’s a lot better than anything that Spirit and Song has. I believe the piece was used when the Holy Father was in New York.
 
I received the Advent-Christmas-Epiphany-Ordinary Time I issue of “Today’s Liturgy” some time ago and skimming through it they suggest “Glory and Praise to our God” for the Feast of the Holy Family on December 26th. I really hope my music director doesn’t take that suggestion to heart. I’m surprised they didn’t suggest “Gather Us In” the whole issue. Kind of a shocker. 😉 😃

We might actually try the antiphons for the Feast of the Holy Family. OCP has strayed away from any semblance of reality.

If I knew how to read music and compose a song, I would take the melody from Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether and write something with it.
