Odd you should nmention it though. Last fall I was at St Patrick’s in St Catharines Ontario and herad a different version of this hymn. Essentially the same words, paraphrased a bit, and a different melody – a simpler one if I recall. The title was something like ‘Lord at the Seashore’ as opposed to Lord When You Came to the Seashore.

Does anyone know what that one might be?

I tried singing the verses with the melody for “Lord, You Have Come”, but it didn’t sound like it fit, so…

How often should you use a hymn at Mass? Should the hymns try to be different every Sunday?

I don’t plan for a church, I only offer mere suggestions, but how often do you use a hymn for Mass? Do you try to make it different every week?
 
Oh wow! I’m totally messed up. Going to the Spanish, I saw Pescador de Hombres which I know as Lord, When You Came to the Seashore, with the words on that webpage CatholicZ09. Thats the one that I sing as Krist na Žalu in Croatian.

I didn’t realise that Pescador de Hombres also referred to another hymn that you are calling Lord, You Have Come.

Where can I find that one?

We try to use different hymns each week. Since we do 2 communion songs each week and there are only about 15 or so in Journeysongs we do tend to repeat some of our favorites about every 4 weeks.

4th Sunday in OT we did:
Gather Your people
I will sing (Gather 71)
B. Farrell’s Mass of Hope (except for the Agnus Dei: Owlaski)
O God, You search me (B. Farrell)
One love released and The Lord is my hope
O bless the Lord

We normally do. We did not this weekend because of the extra time the sacramentals took.

This last weekend we did:

Make Me a Channel of Your Peace
You Are Mine
Veni Sancti Spiritus (incensing)
O Sacrament Most Holy
Lord I am not Worthy

Then we had no real recessional, but for the blessing of the throats:
Precious Lord
Just a Closer Walk

Those are great songs. My wife and I sang for a garden dedication yesterday for a young man who passed away (22 years old). As the sun was setting they released a flock of doves and held one back for a minute. Then as the rest of the flock flew around the mother of the young man released the last dove which flew to catch up with the rest. Then we sang precious Lord. Not a dry eye could be found. Very moving.

What a ministry we have.

Much of the time, we try to sing the propers for the day (Introit, Offertory, Communion) either in Latin or English. Basically the texts are the same, but the tunes are often polyphonic.

We’ve sang a lot of Rutter, Schubert’s Mass, Mozart Coronation Mass.

We almost always sing Gregorian Chant Ordinaries (Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei) (Mass XVII for Advent and Lent, Mass VIII sometimes for Ordinary Time).

The congregation has learned several modern English ordinaries, it is no more difficult to teach them Latin chant ordinaries.
 
if anyone sees this by 7AM tomorrow morning, what songs do you use for the feast of St. Blaise / Blessing of the Throats??

I’m a bit stuck…not sure what music would be good to use.

I like Tom Booth’s “Here I Am.” It’s pretty catchy and it doesn’t make me as teary-eyed as “Here I Am, Lord.” Hahaha. I don’t really have a problem with “Lord, You Have Come / Pescador de Hombres.” To me, it has sort of a meaningful message. I agree, I like “Come, Worship the Lord” as well. Nice picks! 👍

All I can say is try going to daily Mass and listening to Lord, You Have Come/Pescador de Hombres" on a regular basis and then on Sundays, funerals and weddings. Believe me, once you have experienced that, you will get my point.
