I was asked to do the music for my dad’s parish for last night’s Mass. This is what I chose:
Entrance Processional: Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
Offertory: Where Charity and Love Prevail
–I wanted to do either Forgive Us Lord as We Forgive or Our Father, We Have Wandered, but, we did not have enough of the old Worship III books to go around so I had to use the Paluch stuff.
Communion: Alleluia, Sing to Jesus
Recessional: There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy
I went to Mass at my parish this morning. Evidently, everyone else used the lame OCP guide because I heard Alleluia No. 1 and “Lift High the Cross”, although the last one would have been appropriate for next weekend’s Mass.
If I am asked to sing again next weekend, I will choose:
Entrance Processional: There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy’
Offertory: “Take Up Your Cross”
Communion: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Recessional: Lfit High the Cross
For the parts of the Mass, I chose the Gloria from A New Mass for a Congregation and for the rest, I went with A Community Mass from Richard Proulx. We sang acapella.
The best part about the whole thing was that the faithful SANG. They remembered the parts of the Mass. They do not sing when the young lady shows up with her guitar. They do not sing the parts of the Mass that she uses nor the songs that she picks. But, man, were they singing last night. She means well, but the stuff that she picks is all of that really horrid music from the 70s. I have been trying to teach her real sacred music that is simple to sing, but, to no avail. But, maybe she will change her mind.
