The tune is Union Seminary and it is quite high-church sounding. We used this a lot at my old parish in Central Texas. Well, the version we used was updated, but, having found the original lyrics, the revised version pales in comparison. Richard Proulx and his Cathedral Singers have it on one of their CDs.

If I knew how to read music and compose a song, I would take the melody from Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether and write something with it.

I might have to try that with some of my favorite tunes. For example: “Old Hundredth”, “Finlandia”, “Beach Spring”, etc.

The problem with me is I wouldn’t be able to think of any lyrics.

Up until maybe a year ago, in OCP’s publication Today’s Liturgy, would mark which of their hymn suggestioins were connected with the readings of that day. I’m noticing thats not done anymore. I would be curious to know if they are suggesting the same hymns for October 3, 2010 that were suggested for October 7, 2007.

For some reason Today’s Liturgy quit that practice when they wanted to include more song suggestions.

Justin, if you want to find older music pages from Today’s Liturgy, go to www.liturgy.com and click “Basic Liturgy Planner” at the bottom of the page. Then, at the top of the page after that, click “Show All Dates” and it goes back to 1999. Scroll down to your requested date, click it, and it will take you to that day’s planner. Hit the back button on your browser three times. You should be back to the homepage. Now, click the tab that says “Planning Guides” at the bottom. The day you selected previously will show the planning guide.

I think that the thrust of the First Reading and the Gospel is not so much one of thanksgiving; rather it is the fact that someone who was not from Judah was healed. Naaman and the Samaritan (although Samaritans were descendants of Abraham) were not a part of the Covenant, per se, but, they were still cleansed. If we want to use thanksgiving hymns, then, our chance will come again next month because the Gospel is the one used for Thanksgiving Day’s readings.

I was tempted to use “In Christ, There is No East Nor West” because of the First and Gospel readings.

It is the best hymn to play at that moment at least in my opinion. I’ll be back to bring more hymns of praise. I like this thread;)
 
I can’t believe the music leader threads have lasted over a year. It doesn’t seem that long at all.

I guessed the next one will be Part 3.

Usually, “Lord, You Give the Great Commission” is sung as a recessional hymn. However, most parishes don’t sing all the five verses of a hymn at the recessional. So, since next Sunday is World Mission Sunday, I find it appropriate to move it at a spot where it has the opportunity to be sung in its entierty.

The parishoners at my parish seem to love “People, Look East”. I’m sure yours will love it as well.
