Then there are the commandments given in Torah that were given to all mankind, not just the Jews. What many call the Noahide laws.

“I’ll not be told who I can be friends with.”

That’s so funny because I’m sure that the OP feels the same way about people like you. You are a hypocrite.

P.S. You don’t have to like MY opinion either.

Just because we are to love our neighbors, does not mean to let them into your house bearing arms. Just because you cannot see those arms, does not mean they are not there.

islam is the one true enemy of the Church. Satan is known as the Great Deceiver, and he’s done a great job on you guys.

I’m waiting for the day when I see Catholics, and Christians of all denominations, finally begin to defend themselves again against islam. When will we fight for ourselves and our faith? When is enough enough?

Once we finally overcome the deceitful “nation of islam,” we can get back to trying to bring all Christians back together under the Pope.
And how do you know they are bearing arms. I assure you there are “good” muslims just as there are “bad” muslims, and “good” Catholics just as there are “bad” Catholics.

Jesus talked about a good Samaritan, a traitor to the Jewish faith of the time, Now if that is who Jesus, a Jew, held up as the model, who are we to say that just because they are Muslim means they are evil?

A lone Raven

All the OP stated was that she felt blessed to have friends from different religions.

That’s more a reflection on the person, rather than the faith.

That person simply doesn’t know what Moslems are supposed to do.

See these bits of advice from an Islamic site
It is not permissible to congratulate the kuffaar on their festivals in any way whatsoever

Prohibition on celebrating the festivals of the kuffaar

I have to say I was very shocked to read some of these links. I don’t know if this reflects the official teaching of Islam, but I find it very disturbing that someone would say, on behalf of Allah, that Jewish and Christian festivals are “evil”

I’m actually at a loss for words just thinking about it, but that’s a serious lack of tolerance and understanding for people of other faiths, to say the least.

I guess I understand now the lack of human rights given to Christians and Jews in Muslim or predominantly Muslim nations - these faiths are “evil”, so the people who practice them should be persecuted. I remember how a politician in Afghanistan was threatened with execution for converting to Christianity.

I don’t know how people who have this kind of attitude towards other religions can possibly expect the people who practice them to respect Islam. You expect respect for your religion in predominantly Christian nations where you’re a minority, but you’re not prepared to give the same to Christians when we’re the minority and you’re the majority.

I think you should seriously consider your stance towards other religions. I’m seriously concerned about this website putting words in God’s mouth (saying “And Allah knows best” at the end of each statement seems to be doing that) - God is the one who established the Jewish festivals, and the majority of the Christian ones - so how could he call them “evil”??? God does not create evil!

I don’t expect you to participate in any of these festivals, but at least show some respect for them and the people who do participate in them. It looks like the OP’s Muslim friend is much more charitable than Islam (or at least the Muslim sources you cited) allows.

Peace,

Karolina

Let the one without sin cast the first stone

I can’t believe you said that. They didn’t cast any stones alright. How about thousands of bombs, bullets, and a couple of airliners? So I guess fighting back is a sin? I guess defending myself is a sin?
I was just saying, Christians ‘attack’ too…
And comparing people before Christ was born doesn’t really work either. The had the old Testament to follow. With Jesus, came new laws. Read the OT without considering the NT and tell me that a Hindu or muslim or Budhist would be saved prior to the birth of Christ.
I specifically bolded a couple parts of those quotes for you. Read them again.

First off, Justin Martyr numbers Socrates and Heraclitus among the elect – pagans, just as a Buddhist would have been to him, or (had one somehow time-traveled back before the birth of Christ) a Muslim. Had Justin known of Siddartha I have little doubt he would have been included as an example.
And finally, you are right on one point. I can love a fellow creature of God that is a muslim. But I will not really ever be friends with him.
That is possibly one of the saddest things I have ever heard. 😦

No, a muslim could not have been saved prior to the Savior’s coming to Earth simply because there were no muslims then.

Interesting thread. One thing is clear, that the value of the muslim friend is in himself and not the muslim faith, for the Koran forbids friendship with Christians and Jews.

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Their very faith prevents them from being your friend. I say that should put you on guard when one claims to be. If it came down to it, and he/she denied thier muslim faith to be friends with you, then there is hope. Perhaps this lack of understanding of thier faith, or lack of conviction in it, is a good oportunity to guide them to Christ.

But as long as they deny Christ and claim to be muslim, they are not your friend.

I think it is just as fair to say that your very faith prevents you from being friends with them.

But doesn’t he welcome all his children, regardless of their ethnicity, beliefs, character, or rectitude?
Only if they love God

Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Wrong. I’m friends with many people who are not Catholic. Many of them try to convert me all the time, but none have declared war on me. None of their beliefs dictate that all non-believers should be killed and Christians should be enslaved.

Begining to see the big difference here?

I would love to have complete tolerance in the world. I would love to never even have these discussions. But the fact is that just being a Catholic/Christian makes you an enemy and target of certain people.

They also advise that although its’ permissible for a Moslem man to marry a Christian woman, she’s not permitted to practice ‘evil’ in the house.

In WWII both the Germans and British bombed cities. Do you see any difference between them?

Is there a difference between someone attacking you, and you fighting back?

Islam launched itself upon the world, attacking the (eastern) Roman Empire and the Persian Empire. It spread by conquest.

Some (westerners) attacked back in the crusades, and everyone criticises them for doing so.

Just as an interesting (I hope) point…
Moslems believe that all who follow their god, al-lah are Moslems. And for them, this includes Moses and Jesus.

Koran 7:143
And Moses fell down senseless. And when he woke he said: Glory unto Thee! I turn unto Thee repentant, and I am the first of (true) believers.

Funny that people are criticising her for associating with Muslim friends. Didn’t they say the same thing to Jesus when he associated with Samaritans?

It’s one thing to ‘associate’ it’s another to turn a blind eye.

Moslems are not supposed to have kuffaar for close friends

Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. (Koran 3:28)

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust)”
(Koran 5:51)

I don’t remember ever coming across that - could you please provide a link to the actual document so that I can see what specific practices it refers to?

Besides, I don’t think you’re making a fair comparison here. Islam has Judaism as its precedent, doesn’t it? The Qu’ran relies on the Old Testament doesn’t it? I know the question of whether Allah is the same as the Jewish or Christian understanding of God is being discussed in another thread, but if you agree that Allah is also the God of the Old Testament, then you cannot call the festivals He established “evil”! That would mean that God (Allah) is not all-good, since He gave His people evil practices. Islam has its precedent in Judaism, that’s where many of its laws and practices come from, right? So I think it’s very unfortunate that you’re turning around and calling the practices of Judaism and Christianity (which were also established by the same God) evil. Where’s the logic in that? Aren’t you saying that Islam was founded on a precedent of evil, and that the Qu’ran was written on that precedent?

Islam is not a precedent of Christianity, so the same argument doesn’t apply to calling Muslim practices evil (although I would still like to see your source on that).

Peace,

Karolina

I was not criticising her. I was simply warning her.
