Nope. It is “1” which is God’s number. Ahad. Wahad. We say “witr,” and three is “witr.” The prayer at night is 2 regular rakaat plus one more–witr. To make it odd. Because everything comes in pairs, but 1 is God’s number. One time is enough in wudhu. It is better to make it complete though… so to do it again (which would make 2.) But if you’ve done 2 then it’s better to do it 3 to make it witr. If you’ve done 4, it’s better to do 1 more and make it witr (5.) See? Mostly we do it three times because that’s how the Prophet (saaws) did it.

dirt works as peeling…the small granules do clean the skin if you rub them.

Yep. But it leaves dirt all over your skin… which might not be considered “clean.”

umm me surely no one lol…but you must start using the right hand…i did not create it lol so why do you start with the right hand and not the left one? and if you start with the left one, are you breaking a step of the ritual?

The right hand is cleaner–because it’s not the one you use to clean your privates with after going to the bathroom. Muslims usually start with the right hand to do most things. (Sometimes they start with left–that’s the exception.) But it isn’t part of the ritual, as far as I’m aware. So you could start with the left and it would still be valid.

Allah is nothing more then the Arabic word for God so it translates as God knows best.

Actually if I have it right the Quran actually distinguishes between unclean dirt from clean dirt. So you could only watch yourself with clean dirt if no water is available.

i do not think it is done *during *wudu but actually after it…in case some parts were itching, dunno but that’s mentioned as a valid reason…am not sure if you can avoid passing gaz though

In all fairness, my post was directed at inJESUS, and not you. Since he/she knows Arabic, I don’t mind using a phrase like that. It technically means “Allah knows better” I think, but you’ve got the general idea.

While it is generally better for a person to not “count” how much he praises Allah, there is a tradition of reciting a certain number of praises after each of the salaat.

The Prophet (saaws) recommended:
33 times Subhanallah (glorified is Allah)
33 times Alhamduilllah (all praise is for Allah)
33 times Allahu Akbar (Allah is greater)
and then once: laa ilaaha illa Allah, wahdahu, laa sharika lah, lahu almulk, wa lahu alhamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay’in qadeer. (There is no god except Allah, He is one, He has no partners, to Him belongs soveriegnty, and to Him is all praise, and over all things He has power)

Most Muslims will recite this and count it on their fingers. Each of your fingers (except thumbs) has three parts. So you do 3 times each finger, plus three more to make 33.

I don’t know when the beads were introduced–most people prefer to use their hands, though.

People also recite other things for certain numbers of times but I don’t know what or why. But the beads were something introduced later on into Islam, and didn’t exist at the time of Muhammad (saaws).

well I can’t tell you the number of people that think Catholics are strange because they swear out that we perform rituals at mass and workshop Mary but of course this is because is people don’t understand our tradition or where it comes from I imagine it is the same way for Muslims and their traditions. I mean after all in our own church there are different ways of making the sign of the cross baptisms are different between the Latin rite in the Byzantine rite and even the mass itself differs significantly between the Latin rite and the various rites of the Eastern Church. Any tradition would seem strange to us if we are not familiar with it. How is this situation any different?

So it makes sense that they would start the process with the pure hand to make sure that the rest of the body stays pure for prayer. I’m reasonably sure that Mohammed instructed his followers somewhere in his teachings is not the Quran itself and it should be done like this.

that’s if they only wash their right hand…but we all know people wash both hands, and touch dirty things in both hands…so it does not make sense…so far…
