My Biopsy

I consulted with an oncologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. He is 90% certain that it is an aggressive lymphoma in stage three. Another test is being conducted on the biopsy material to ascertain definitively whether it is actually cancer. It seems I am also infected with the Epstein-Barr virus, associated with both cancer and mononucleosis. The virus produces some of the same symptoms, which complicates diagnosis. So, another week of trusting the Lord.

I went to a healing mass Monday evening with a spirit-filled priest. It was a wonderful experience, and much more uplifting to listen to the voice of God than to the voice of man! I asked for strength to bear this cross all the way to my own Golgotha, if that it what the Lord wills. If the Lord grants that it is not cancer, I offered our (family’s) suffering up for the reversion of a fallen away Catholic co-worker who has been praying for me. She is pregnant and I have been nudging her back toward faith.

I praise God for the work He is doing in and through your spirit.

Continuing prayers for your correct diagnosis and healing…and least one aspect of your ill-health has been diagnosed.

I will continue to pray for you. You have shown so much faith and courage in your postings and I pray that the Lord will continue to be with you through your journey.

God bless all of you for your continuing prayer.

Tomorrow, I go for a PET scan, where gamma-ray emitting radioactive agents are injected. They are bonded to glucose, which goes to the areas of the body using the most energy. The thought here is that cancer cells use incredible amounts of energy, so the concentrated radiation tends to show the location of cancer cells. The results are recorded on an imaging system that responds to the gamma rays. There will be an additional test as well, fortunately using the same I.V.!

A fellow parishioner gave me information on Saint Peregrine at mass Saturday. Timely counsel. Thank you, Lord!

I am praying that the results of your test tomorrow will lead to the correct diagnosis and that you will be able to get the treatment you need to fully recover.
 
Well, tomorrow is supposed to be the day of diagnosis. I had three scans yesterday, the PET, and two CT scans. It left me radioactive and I was not to associate with children or pregnant mothers! So far, six scans and two biopsies and I forget how many blood draws. Thursday I am scheduled for insertion of a port into a chest vein, for the administration of chemotherapy. However, if it turns out not to be cancer (the tests and symptoms are not totally clear), then I will not need the port, so that is scheduled last.

In any event, I accept the cross which the Lord has chosen for me. I pray now only for the strength t bear it in a manner which pleases Him. I continue to be thankful for all of the prayers going up and, at times, I can feel them. God bless you all. You are such a comfort in this time of uncertainty.
