Hello everyone! I would like to say that I have a bit of a problem. I have been dating this wonderful guy for almost two years now. We have talked about getting married since as far back as I can remember and we have an amazing relationship. He has really inspired me to become closer to God and has really helped me to become a better person. Anyways, he now believes that he has a strong calling to be a priest. This is very difficult for me to handle because I love him so much. I know that the best way for me to love him is to give him to God and to encourage him to follow God’s plan for him. Everytime I think Im okay with all this I just breakdown when I think about how hard it will be to not have him in my life in the same way. I am really proud of him though and his devotion to God. I know in my heart that he would really make a wonderful priest and that is what the world really needs right now. Please I need help! If for some reason you happen to read this please please please please keep me in your prayers and keep my boyfriend (jackpuffin) also in your prayers. God Bless and have a wonderful day!!!

Does this smell fishy to anyone else or is it just me?

Your in my prayers.

Also, I suggest that you talk to a priest yourself so he can help you accept this if it does happen.

It is kind of like that saying goes “Let go, and let God” it fits in many ways for your situation… I will keep you in my prayers.

About 20 years ago I knew a couple who pondered marriage. They realized that what drew them together was their love of the Lord. He became a priest, she became a nun.

I haven’t kept in touch with her, but he has had a much more visible ministry, and by all reports has been a very good priest.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by fishy, David. We both have same names? Yes, it’s because those are our nicknames for each other (We’re married in Puffin land) 😃 If you’re talking about how she just registered yesterday, it’s because she wanted some advice and help, and I set up an acccount for her so she could get some from you guys. I hope that clears things up. 👍

Space Ghost:

Not a very good pic at all; the priest is obviously a Modenrist, as he is wearing his vestments improperly. The stole goes under the chasuble, never over it.

And I can’t believe we’re still having this discussion. Jackpuffin is obviously not serious about becoming a priest. Someone really struggling with this would not broadcast this over a message board, and then bring his girlfriend on.

Rather, someone really struggling with this would not want to broadcast it, would instead be discussing this with a spiritual director, quietly breaking the news to his girlfriend, and not holding his relationship up to public redicule.

You’re obviously a religious man, Jackpuffin. You might even have a special affinity for dressssing-up and doing ritual. But you obviously don’t have the maturity to go off into a seminary.

You know what the right thing to do is. Quit giving us, and your girlfriend, your excuses.

How do you know he’s not serious? Maybe he’s just looking for some moral and spiritual support while he goes through this dificult time in his life, and this is where he found that support.

And who says he “brought his girlfriend on”? Perhaps she saw the support he was receiving and thought it would help her as well.

I’m not saying what is so and what isn’t, but I think we should give people the benefit of the doubt and offer help instead of ridiculing them. Just because a person handles a situation differently then you would doesn’t mean they aren’t serious about it.

Dude, I’m an actor. I know a performance when I see it.

If tillypuffin’s smart, she’ll ditch this guy while she still can.

Assuming that tillypuffin and jackpuffin are not the same person . . .

Your post is unkind. Let these people just post whatever they want in an attempt at seeking peace and maybe resloution. Just don’t reply if it aggitates you.

Back to the topic…puffins one and all, place your trust in God and take some time to listen to what He wants for your life. Seek His will.

Anything other than that will just not work out and will always be a work of the flesh - hard and difficult. You can never go wrong listening to God’s will for your life.

Really?? You can tell a “performance” from just words on a page? All right, please perform Hamlet for us, they way it was originally performed. And do it with just the words. You can’t judge a performance by reading someone’s words. All they are are words-you need voice and action along with the words to make it a “performance”.

And you’re not an actor yet, you’re a “wanna-be”. You major in theatre in college, along with half of the college students in America. Right now you work at McDonald’s, which makes you an expert in fries but not in acting. You may have an opinion, but that doesn’t make it fact.

Thanks for all your thoughts guys. I know Jackpuffin and he is very serious about this. And to what others have said we aren’t just putting this out in the public. Not a lot of our family and friends know about all of this and we were just seeking prayers and words of advice. Thanks again for all of your comments they are greatly appreciated! God bless and have a wonderful day! If you can, please keep praying…

I know of a certain young lady that went through a similar experience with her boyfriend while in college. I was that boyfriend and that young lady is my wife.

BTW, we did go our separate ways after college, and I did pursue studies in the seminary in preparation to become a priest. In my final year, shortly before I was to be ordained, we re-united. Needless to say, I didn’t become a priest and I am happily married.

My wife often refers to the saying, “If you love something, set it free…” when she shares our story. Even if your boyfriend does study to become a priest, don’t give up hope. If it is meant to be, it will be.

My daughter dated the same young man all through four years of college. At graduation, they parted, tearfully, to discern what God’s will was for them.

My daughter visited several convents. She seriously considered whether or not she was called to a religious vocation.

Ultimately, the young man proposed and they were wed, but only after they were certain that it was God’s will, not merely their own.

Yes, as the old saying goes, Let Go, and Let God.

(And thank goodness that God does the calling to the priesthood, and not Dominus Vobiscum! 😃 ) 😉

Please do not take this poster to heart. Most folks on this forum are sincere and supportive, and if they offend someone, they try to clarify and/or apologize. Please continue to seek feedback. Below is a previous posting of DV’s to help you consider the flavor of some of his posts in weighing his (name removed by moderator)ut:

It is kind of weird, but i am going to share with you MY story: I always wanted to find for a girlfriend a nice, loving and decent woman who would love God. I suffered much because I never have found her, and I felt that God was abandoning me, and why was it that if my friends all found thier soul mates, I had not? I went through years of sadness and feeling something is missing, after all I am afairly good looking well educated young man, and i was always puzzeled as to WHY??? I told God many a times that I would lover my soul mate very much once I found her. Anyway, to make a long story short, I did enter the seminary, but still felt in there that something was missing, I felt alone, misunderstood, and depressed. I left the seminary on my own, and NOW I realize that I must continue to have the hope that one day God will lead me to my soul mate. However, I thought that the seminary was going to fix everything in my life. My point is: if your boyfriend really has a vocation to the priesthood he will persevere, if NOT he will be back, and maybe he is meant for you or maybe not: God loves him more than you do, but he also wants you to be happy. Don’t stop him from going into the seminary, let him discern on his own. In the meantime PRAY MUCH.
Sincerely, misericordie.

tarting to think something smells fishy, and if it does, than the advice needed is from a psychiatrist.
