Back in January I requested prayer for my Brother-in-law Bruce. He had colon cancer and required a colonostomy. Bruce had another surgery in April. He started gaining weight and was back up to 137 lbs.

Thursday, he went to the doctor with mouth ulcers…probably due to all the antibiotics and gastric acids. When they were examining his mouth, they found three lumps under his tongue.

All three are being tested for possible cancer. His weight is back down to 110.

Please pray for Bruce. Also pray for him to make a confession soon.

God Bless,
Pam

From today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Canticle Daniel 3

The prayer of Azariah in the furnace

Blessed are you, Lord God of our fathers:
your name is glorious for ever
for you are just in all you have done to us.
For we have sinned and done wrong, we have deserted you
and done all things wrong.

Do not give us up for ever, for your name’s sake we beg you,
do not dissolve your covenant.
Take not your loving kindness from us,
for the sake of Abraham, your beloved;
and Isaac your servant,
and Israel your holy one.

You told them you would multiply their seed
like the stars of the sky
like the sand on the shores of the sea.

But we, Lord, are made the least of all nations.
Today we are brought low over all the earth
on account of our sins.

Today there is no prince
no prophet, no leader,
no holocaust, no sacrifice.
No offering, no incense,
no first-fruits offered to you
– no way to obtain your mercy.

But in our contrite souls,
in a spirit of humility,
accept us, Lord.
Like a holocaust of rams and bulls,
like fat sheep in their thousands,
let our sacrifice be like these before you today.

Bring to fruition the quest of those who follow you,
for those who trust in you can never be confounded.
And now we follow you with all our heart
and we revere you and seek your face.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Lord God Almighty, in this world we have trouble. But, praise be to Your Holy Name, for You have given us Jesus Christ, Who has overcome this world! We lift Bruce up to You, begging Your mercy and healing graces will be upon him. You alone know the outcome of his affliction, and You have graciously ordered everything for the greater good. Increase Bruce’s faith, and inspire within him the desire to be reconciled to You. Though we attempt to deny it Lord, each of us are bound to go the way of all flesh. Blessed is Your Name above all names that we have hope through Jesus Christ! Let us not mourn, but celebrate with joy that Your Love has conquered death. We pray that Your mercy and love will be with Bruce during his medical treatment, and we know that all things are possible to You. We defer to Your Majesty and Divine Will for Bruce’s healing, while praying that his soul will be restored to a state of perfection in Your eyes. Graciously provide doctors, nurses and technicians who reflect Your love to those around them. We humbly ask this through the same Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever. Amen! Alleluia!

Praying for Bruce … may our loving and merciful Father lay is healing hands on Bruce, that he may be healed of all his illnesses and pain.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. :signofcross:

To Saint Peregrine
O great St. Peregrine, you have been called “The Mighty,” “The Wonder-Worker,” because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you. (Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying)

Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.

Praying very hard to St. Peregrine for Bruce’s complete recovery!

Thank you all so much for your generous prayers. I’m waiting to hear from him now.

Please pray for him to be able to face a priest and go to confession. He needs God above all things in his life.

God. Your child Bruce needs your gift of Healing. Please help him and mend him spiritually and physically. Only You can provide these gifts. We thank you for all the small miracles you give each of us every day. Right now Father, we need a big gift of healing for this special child of yours.

Update - as of 5:00 p.m. Bruce has not gotten any test results. As a nurse, I feel that this is not good news. They told him to call them again tomorrow.

He is struggling so much with anxiety. The pain in his body is becoming unbearable. He lives alone and is afraid. Please remember to keep him in your prayers.

I will update tomorrow.

God Bless,

Pam

Lord of Love, we lift Bruce up to you as he is struggling. Graciously increase his faith, which will support him through each stage of his treatment. Reveal Your love to him, that he may draw strength from that and come to peace with You, O Lord. Mercifully hear our prayers on his behalf, granting him healing and comfort. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen! Alleluia!

For your intentions…

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Dear Pam,

I feel very moved by what you said about Bruce, what he has been through already, and now all the pain, anxiety and aloneness.
Please God be merciful to Bruce Your Son.
Jesus, You experienced anxiety in Gethsemane while contemplating your ordeal, and then intense agony leading to your final moments. Knowing these from Your own human experience, please spare Bruce more ordeal and pain. Please certainly ease his anxiety, anxiousness and pain, and if You will, please heal him.

I’ll keep Bruce in prayer, Pam, while we await your next post.
Bless you, Pam-on-fire (as I interpret your Forum name)
Love, Trishie

keeping you in my prayers. Praying that God will work his miracles for Bruce and keep his family and friends fromt he anxiety of so much worry. The waiting is so hard on all of us.

I knew the news would not be good, and it is not. Bruce has now been diagnosed with some sort of oral cancer that has attached to the jaw bone.

They are planning more extensive tests on Wednesday.

Bruce was drinking when he called me tonight. He is an alcoholic and hadn’t had anything to drink in over a year. I really can’t say that I blame him at this point.

I’m very worried about his mental state. He lives alone in Kansas and I’m in Alabama. I feel that he may be on the verge of suicide.

If you have a minute, please join me in a special prayer for him now.

**Father, we ask you to have mercy on Bruce;
Grant him the strength he will need to come before
you in confession for the first time in at least 10 years so that he may find peace and comfort in you.
Guide his medical doctors and care takers to provide
him with the best possible treatment.
Remove the pain from his mouth Lord, so that he may
be able to eat and gain weight.
Remove thoughts of suicide from his mind so that he
may think clearly. And Father, please remove that
bottle from his hand.
I ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ!
AMEN

Just giving this another bump… I can’t get him on the phone… please pray…

Just giving this another bump… I can’t get him on the phone… please pray…
I just repeated your prayer. Faith, trust, and prayer will prevail, since we are all as far away as you, but the Lord is everywhere at once.

Christ’s peace.
