Thanks, this is helpful. I really think my wife has a hard time with the idea of sexuality and religion occupying the same life. So, the more she and I have embraced our faith, the less interested in sex she becomes. But our sex life, for me, is a vital expression of our marriage, and always has been.
People don’t like change. Our spouses esp. don’t like it. 🙂 It’s very disorienting when the “rules” change. Just keep your eyes on Jesus and up the attention at home. I disagree with those who say tone it down. I think by loving Jesus, you’ll have more love for your family. To make sure she feels loved,
When my husband and I met we were both virgins. Unfortunately we had sex before marriage. When I stopped being a “Catholic in name” and started drawing closer to Jesus. I did not know how to cope with “matrimonial sex”. Sin brings all kind of negative feeling into a marriage. I could not discuss it with my husband because he was not growing in faith with me. This created a lot of problems. I was not able to respond to him in the way I should have as a wife. We never stopped this marital act but something was definitely missing. Scriptures from my bible and confession helped me to cast of the shame from the sin and taught me the truth about sex. I learned that sex in marriage is really special but by then it was too late. However my love for Christ strengthened my love for my husband and I felt my desires for him increase. We are now separated and my husband cites this as one of the reasons. He could not understand why I was distant before and suddenly passionate. Continue praying and walking with God but be mindful that she is not in the same spiritual place as yourself. Take pattern from Queen Esther (Old Testament) appeal to God constantly on her behalf. For those of you who are uncomfortable with bdeaner’s sexual expressions I have come to realize that men and women’s sexuality are different. Sexual problems in a marriage are really signs that something more is taking place. I commend you for coming to your Catholic peers with something so personal. Let’s be thankful you did not ask people who are in the world as my husband did. I think you are being a sensitive husband by trying to find a way strengthen your marriage. Your honesty might be able to help another couple. It also sounds like you both need to better understand your roles to compliment each other. Here is a link that might help you. retrouvaille.org
Today even though my husband and I are still separated I can say thank God for all that I have learned about marriage. May God be with you and your family.

P.S. I had a Caesarian section but still attend church. I could not kneel for a while because of the pain. We do not know why others do not conform to traditions. Do no be judgemental.

Ditto–during most of my pregnancies I had to sit on the edge rather than kneel, either because of miserable knees or bulging belly that wouldn’t let me reach the kneelers. After being pregnant 20 of the last 24 months, it’s going to be more awkward remembering to kneel now!
