This is what a co-worker told us recently. He is a Baptist, and is switching to another Baptist church because the one he’s going to doesn’t fulfill his spiritual needs.

I don’t get it. If he’s going to another church of the same denomination, and everyone professes the same faith, same doctrine, what’s going to be different?

If he weren’t a co-worker, I would have talked about it with him. Politics, religion and work don’t mix well. 🙂

Are any Baptists here who can explain what he meant and how he will find what’s missing in on Baptist church in another Baptist church.

I’m not a Baptist but like many churches the Baptist model is based on the congregation and the local teacher. It would be little different from a Catholic that didn’t attend church at the closest Parrish but rather travel across town to attend another Catholic Church for whatever reason.

Do they actually preach different doctrines? I’m trying to figure out what “spiritual” thing is missing in one Baptist church but can be found in another?

Are some Baptist churches preaching a doctrine on the Eucharist that more closely matches the CC church, while others treat it very casually?

Do members of different Baptist chruches follow different believes?

This is a reach, because I am not baptist, either, but I have seen a lot of people make this kind of claim when they really meant that they were not having an emotional response to the service. The preacher may be more of a teacher than an entertainer and they may be looking for more edge of my seat type of thing. It is also possible that they are missing out on some sort of Bible study, but more than likely, with a baptist church, it is because they do not go to it.

I may be wrong but I don’t think it is about the doctrine or teaching but about the style of the service. Maybe your colleague is looking for more fulfilling music or a friendlier community, perhaps more reverence, or a more “energetic” pastor. Spiritual fulfilling means different things to different people, I guess. Even in our Catholic Church, I know people that stick to a specific Mass in a single parish because they find that Mass unique and catering to their “needs”. They would consider other Masses valid and would go if necessary, but they are more fulfilled in the one that they usually attend. And if they move, they will probably church hop for a while until they fund a similar Mass to the prior one.

Kalt,
what yu don’t understand is that most churches believe the same doctrines. Where they differ is on how they worship as a group. Doctrine is one thing but how we put our doctrine into practice is another thing.

I guess we are trying to say is that “fullfilling” is Christianese. The problem could be that the senior pastor doesn’t sound like Martin Luther King. That he doesn’t lke the chior director’s choice of music or that the piano player isn’t good enough so he will travel a few more blocks to get to church.

What do you mean by fulfilling? What do want in a chruch? Answering these questions will help me to address your question.

Although Baptist Churches are normally similar in doctrine, I have attended individual churches that taught things that were out of step with other Baptists.

Among some people there is a desire to put their own self satisfaction above their worship of God. They want to feel well liked by the congregation, have friends, hear a great sermon that applies to themselves and get a spiritual high most times that they attend church. Some people base their decision to join a particular church based mainly on their feelings of belonging and not the church’s doctrines, history of good works etc.

I’ve talked to Catholics who left the church, not because they disagreed with doctrine but because another church was more friendly to newcomers.😊

I don’t think that your friend will feel upset if you ask him why he isn’t fullfilled in his current church.

As a former Baptist, the doctrine remains the same, however it is all in the presentation. That and the fact that there are no set rubrics to follow, so if a minister wants to preach about the sins of lust for an entire year, that’s ok, a six month series on Marriage and divorce, that’s ok.

My favorite was the local minister that preached four sermons, yes, four, so in a year, you heard each sermon at least 12 times, and he droned. I am not certain that he was even awake for during service. The only thing that would change was the music the choir director chose each week.

You have to understand that most baptist pastors do not stay with the same church for more than eight or ten years and with good reason. A pastor wishes to see his congregartion grow spiritually. Unlike catholic priest that say the same thing service after service, Baptist pastors (God bless them) have to perpare three or four sermons a week, 52 weeks a year. So to prevent stagnation they will move to another Church. Maybe this has happen to your co-workers church

sounds like you are going on how you feel reather than on what is taught. You will never find a perfect church. What the church believes is far more important that what they do. Right doctrine should lead to right actions. Orthodoxy leads to orthopraxy. Read Col. 1:9-15. be careful that you are making the right choice here when you say you want to leave. Action by a few are not a sign that the whole church feels this way. Have you talked to the Pastor about how you feel?

Catholic Priests also want to see their congregation grow spiritually. They move on to other parishes after about 5 years and pastors have about 12 years before they move on. They rotate routinely.

For your information allis, Catholic Priests (God bless them) also have to prepare sermons (homilies) on a weekly basis. They celebrate mass daily. They also visit the sick, lead prayer services, retreats, bible studies, celebrate weddings, funerals, etc.

Don’t let your hatred of the Catholic Church expose your ignorance.

:confused:Please elaborate.

We get a homily 365 days a year, twice a day on weekdays (by different priests), two on Saturday, and three on Sunday. 👍
So to prevent stagnation they will move to another Church.
Archidocesan priests generally get moved every 3 to 6 years. :-(.

Not all Baptist church teach the same thing some do not allow danceing and others do and some do not like the preacher. My two daughters are Baptist and they have gone to three diff BC and now are going to a non-denomination church, well one is the other still is at a Baptist Church and one Baptist church can have better music then the other…

It’s really a case of it’s better to have people wonder if you’re ignorant, than to open your mouth and confirm it.🤷

I can’t speak for other priests but my own priest does not use the same homily for each sermon. He is a very good speaker.🙂

Well, her comments on this board have been notoriously anti-Catholic over the years.

When choosing a church the church must be:
  1. All glory honor and praise to Jesus alone.
  2. Must be mission focused to reach the lost for Christ.
  3. Must have ministries to serve the Lord
  4. Loving environment where the congregation is growing and vibrant and people are getting baptised.
If you dont have these 4 precepts then the church could be very dead spiritually no matter what denomination you are in. Remember God does not care about denominational names he has one church the church of Jesus Christ and if you repent of your sins and put your trust in Jesus you are in it. All denominational names were made up by humans Gods church is spiritual.
