She knows she did wrong. My guess is that real psychics are very rare. She most likely just went to a fraud who makes a living making up stuff to tell gullible people. Still a sin, but I think it is just important to point of most psychics are not really getting info from satan, they are just con people, frauds, liars, swindlers, ect.
Yes I realize it was wrong but I was at a really low point and my daughter suggested I talk to this person who calls herself a spiritual adviser. When I met with her she talked about how much God loves us both and that she sees a strong spiritual connection between us, and that she saw that he has never considered my worst fears.

She has a 50% chance of being right and 50% chance of being wrong. Her advice is worthless. So many people predict break ups between couples and when they get one right, they think that they have some kind of psychic ability. It is nonsense.

Thank you all for your advice, comments, kind words and prayers. Yes I have had more than one open and honest conversation with him about my worries. He tells me he is just trying to get ahead at work, to get extra work done and keep things running smoothly, that he takes pride in his work and enjoys receiving praise from his boss. He doesn’t clock in so there isn’t anything to show on his paycheck. I did see a copy of his performance review a couple weeks ago that specifically states “he goes above and beyond by even going into work at night” so I know he does at least go into work some of the time. And no he doesn’t really check himself any more than he has always done before going into work at night. He has actually gained a bit of weight lately which he doesn’t seem too concerned about.

In my previous job held for over seven years, I was a workaholic and in hindsight, quite controlling in my home life. I lost that job and was unemployed for over a year which really changed me (for the better we both agreed). I am now employed again thanks to the blessing of God. I have always made roughly double his salary which I thought didn’t matter. Looking back, I could even say that this might have all been quite demeaning for him so I’m wondering (certainly NOT defending) if what he is protecting is control of his own life (and his manhood?).

I do have to say that since our sort of break up several months ago he is much more attentive but the behaviors I worry about certainly still exist. He tells me he isn’t hiding anything from me, that he just goes to work and comes home to me, and that he does go out and for lunch with his coworkers occasionally.

My dilemma is that if I push too hard and I’m wrong I WILL push him away. If I’m right though, we can work through it. But what is IT that we need to work through is the problem.
Work on being closer to him. Ask him to remember when you were a workaholic, and vow not to let the desire to do a great job come between you. You want him to remember why you have been the best friend he has for over three decades.

Even if he’s totally on the up and up and going into work every night as he says, it seems there are some issues that need to be worked out.

He’s putting the praise and approval of his boss and superiors over spending time and being flexible (out of town visits etc.) with you.

People can have an affair of sorts with their work. Going in every single night to check on work without getting paid, especially if/when it is unnecessary, is not putting your marriage as a priority.

Keep talking and sharing with him. Let him know how proud you are of him for working so hard, but also be sure to let him know how much you miss him and want to spend more time with him.

This may sound stupid, but could leave the house before he usually goes into work and shop for something you really need and kept forgetting to get? Perhaps you can park in a place where toy see what is going on and not be discovered. Granted, I do not know where work is, so this may not work. But I thought it would lighten your load.

Like others who have posted similar opinions before, I would discourage “checking up” on the husband. What good comes from this? Certainly not peace of mind because the wife may feel regretful should she find he’s actually working those long hours and doubted his fidelity. If the husband should “catch” his wife “checking up” on him, he might feel betrayal himself that she doubted him without any evidence. Let’s say the husband IS seeing someone on the side and uses the excuse of work and the wife catches him in the act, what would the wife do? Divorce him and contravene God’s admonition “let no one separate what God has put together” or abandon her husband and ignore her wifely responsibilities as the (supposedly cheating) husband has done? Will she harbor anger and hate and take it out on him to “get even” and lead herself down a path away from God’s mercy?

As difficult as it may seem, praying and waiting may be the best course of action. If the husband is cheating, his sins are on him. She can continue to honor the sacrament and live a chaste life.

Surprise him at work with a treat. To ‘reward’ him for working so hard.

Cell phone calls aren’t where the details are. If you suspect it’s an emotional affair, look at text messages and emails. If he has a smartphone, apps like Yahoo Messenger or KIK will definitely raise a red flag.

I believe you need to do something or you will NEVER find peace of mind. Short of hiring a private investigator you could install a GPS tracking device on his car. It is really easy to install and not that expensive. I bought one for $100 plus a $30 monthly service amount. You can then track everything his car does. Where it goes, when it stops, how fast it is traveling and creates a permanent record. This is a very economical and accurate way to find out exactly where he is going.

I got my from a web-based company called “Track What’s Important”

In regards to the company phone keep in mind most people are required to have passwords on them, in fact my girlfriend has a company phone that has confidential employee forms on so just know hiding the company phone in itself isn’t a red flag. But you also shouldn’t be going through his phone and telling him or insisting he not have female friends. It would probably be best if you two went to marriage counseling.

So you have no actual proof of anything…

I’ll also throw out that his company phone is just that, company property. Letting you access that phone and/or the emails would most likely be a fire-able offense based on standard security policies for mobile devices (this is also why it has a password).

Not to mention, that consulting a “psychic”, is considered a sin by the church, is it not? To speak nothing of the fact that psychics are just frauds.

To those saying, “hire a PI”! Where’s the marital trust there? What if it turns out nothing is going on, but the husband finds out his wife had him tailed? Speaking as man, I’d be irate at the lack of trust.

Talk to your husband.

Let’s be honest…all psychics are frauds. No one can commune with the dead, summon demons, cast spells, or curse people.

Magic is not real.

I wish the term ‘emotional affair’ had never been invented!

Places of employment generally have male and female co-workers and good firms strive to create an atmosphere where colleagues ‘gel’ and develop good working relationships for the benefit of everyone.

You won’t find a solution to this through private detectives, or confrontations. If he has told you he isn’t having a physical affair, then believe him and devote you energies into investing in your marriage. There’s a book (with the unfortunate title, “Beat the B*tch!”) which is not written with any specific faith group in mind, but is actually a fascinating read and ironically, a lot of the conclusions that the writer reaches are remarkably similar to those in “The Wife Desired”, which is a 1960s guide for young wives written by a Catholic Priest.

BTB is written by a lady who married a man after being his mistress and then another woman came along and did exactly the same to her. She is quite candid about the fact that she behaved very badly and should never have broken up a marriage - so in no way does this book encourage adultery - quite the opposite in fact!

What it does do, is explain how it is better to keep hold of your husband through being a supportive and loyal wife and showing him that you are a better choice than his mistress or potential mistress. Arguments and mis-trust can lead to situations where things are said by both parties in the heat of the moment that are very difficult to forget and can do real and lasting damage.

More good comments. Thank you…

Yes I have tried to put this in God’s hands, taking the approach of showing him I’m the better choice, being a supportive wife, trying to give him a home he wants to be in and come home to. HOWEVER, it’s not so easy when once again on his day off today he left at 9am and spent the entire day ‘hanging out at work talking to his coworkers and going for lunch with them’ for six hours (I’m at home with the flu). He came home with a new watch that he says was from the gift exchange at work. I looked up the brand and they range from $150+. This is so emotionally and physically paralyzing not to mention the impact it’s having on my blood pressure. I’m sure the flu isn’t what is making me so weak but rather trying to handle all this. My son has moved back home temporarily and seems to be upset with him as well every time he leaves to ‘go to work’ at night. He is asking where he’s going also.

Sorry to sound like such a complainer. Everyone’s advice is truly appreciated.

I think communication is key here. Your intuition is telling you something is up, so listen to that little voice.

Have a BIG talk with your husband. Tell him your fear.

I don’t mean to scare you but my own personal Judas (the EX) suddenly started to hide everything from me. His laptop password, which I used to access, and he would turn away from me to log into his tablet. THAT is a red flag.

Talk to him, girl.

I have talked to him about this several times over the last year and even pack my stuff up and left him a few months ago. After a few days of not answering his calls I finally talked to him. He insisted he is not having an affair, that he just enjoys his work and gets bored at home, and likes to hang out at work. I would not have a problem with any of that if it were true, I just don’t know if it is.

I know that if I bring it up again, it WILL be the end of our marriage. If he really is doing what he says then who’s fault will it be then? I need to figure out how to find out for sure or how to live with it and not be so sad. We have been together since I was 14 and he was 16. We’re in our early 50’s now. Most of our lives have been together. The feeling of betrayal is probably the hardest. I have tried to leave it in God’s hands but even though he is much more attentive, his actions have not changed.

Um, all points I didn’t consider. But I can really sense the OP’s anxiety, so I worry about her. Of course, spying can lead to more anxiety still. Thanks for responding. BTW, we love visiting your home as often as we can.

What is his line of work?

Maintenance (handyman) type stuff for a retailer. Not a type A personality. Why do you ask?

He’s probably telling the truth about being bored. But ah. I’m not really sure I know anyone who likes their work that much that they’d rather pull volunteer hours. I think maybe try to make things more interesting at home. Or start bringing him treats at work. Start during his regular hours. Then naturally carry on into the evening ones. Try for that little bit of different. And see what happens. 🤷
