I know it was wrong for them to marry and have me and my sister but am I damned?

I am physically fine so it did not affect my health but I am very afraid that I may have to pay for their sins as a “result” of their sin.

Please help me.

Lord have mercy.

Don’t worry about it. You won’t be punished for their sins. It’s not your fault. Don’t worry.

Your parents situation has abosolutely nothng to do with your salvation. In fact i am not even sure the Church has a prohibition against first cousins marrying.

I think it would require a dispensation, but it’s possible.

Dont worry about it first and second cousins have been getting married for centuries and 95 % of all of Europe’s remaining Royal houses are 2nd and 3 rd cousins (mine included, I am a Hapsburg Medici ) My grand parents on my mother’s side of the family were 2 and 3 rd cousins and 3 of my uncles all graduated from famous European Universities with PhD’s in their areas of study . so sit back and enjoy life and dont worry be thankful you have loving parents

Don’t worry. You are in no way responsible for the actions of your parents, right or wrong. God created you for a reason, and He is glad you’re in the world. That’s all that matters.🙂

Thank you all for your kind responses 🙂

That’s put my mind at rest.

May the peace of The Lord be with you.

Ok, the OP’s question has been answered, but isn’t anyone else the least bit curious about how he even came up w/ such an idea? Did some radical whacko “Christian” tell him he was going to hell for being “inbred?” Are there really ideas like that floating around out there? Come on, this is killing me!

In Christ,

Ellen

I used to get teased by all my class mates in school because I was “inbred”. My teacher told me not to tell anyone because they would hate me. I think inbreeding is morally wrong and I am ashamed as I have always been.

As far as Christianity is conserned I was told by an Evangelical that I was damned because I am a product of inbreeding and nothing more so I had no soul. Then she said if I do have a soul then it would spend eternity burning in hell.

That’s where the fear came from.

Things might be different where you are, but til just recently many folks married their cousins simply because they were nearby & you didn’t have modern transportation & communications back then. And people didn’t move around as much.In a small community, many folks were related in some way.
My grandparents were cousins.Nothing to be ashamed of.

Have no soul? Of course you have a soul. You have nothing to fear. The Church doesnt permit abortion under any circumstances, including incest. So clearly, your just as human as anyone else.

Marrying a first cousin is not “inbreeding” and if you didnt have a soul how could you be damned? Of course you have a Soul!!! And no you are not damned becuase your parents are first cousins.

BTW-my wife was born and raised in Aberdare Wales and lvied a few years in Cardiff-she has fond memories of it. So far the only disadvantage i have found of being married to a Brit is the “Eastenders” seem to run 24 hours a day…

This is a matter of consanguinity (marrying blood relatives). The Church, through the power of binding and loosing given to Her by Christ, has changed the rules of consanguinity from time to time over the centuries as social and cultural circumstances have evolved. I am not a canon lawyer, but I believe the current law permits second cousins to marry but not first cousins; first cousins MAY, however, marry with a dispensation from the bishop (if local cultural norms permit such marriages). Thus we must conclude that it is not intrinsically evil for first cousins to marry. Were your parents Catholics? If they weren’t, they would not be bound by Church law and thus I would assume their marriage to be valid.

Thanks mate.

Lol yeah there’s always re-runs of it on somewhere! Cardiff is a lovely city, I want to stay here for the rest of my life.

My parent’s aren’t Catholic and are now divorced. So however valid it was it isn’t any more.

However it may relieve everyone to hear that I have been with my (Catholic) Girlfriend for almost 3 years, we haven’t had any problems we are best friends aswell as boyfriend and girlfriend.

We will get married in a Catholic Church, raise our children as Catholics and send them to a Catholic School. Even if my parents didn’t go about things the right way I promise I will!

See Marriage in EWTN Experts today. It notes that dispensation can be granted subject to a couple of considerations.

What kind of “Evangelical”? What church did this person go to? Unfortunately, the word “Evangelical” (like the even broader word “Christian”) can be misused by all kinds of wackos who believe monstrously evil things–and this is a particularly disturbing example.

All I know is she calls herself an Evangelical, I think she goes to an “All Nations Church”.
She is very religious and preaches at everyone which does irritate people but we were at a party last month and she got really drunk and i found her topless in her underwear on the bathroom floor passed out. It appears she puts alot of her beliefs on to get attention because she is so vocal about it. Personally I keep my faith as a personal matter.

I hope and presume that this person is just ignorant and confused. The All Nations Church appears to be Pentecostal, and Pentecostals can believe some weird things–but while these guys sound too triumphalistic for my liking (and don’t have much respect for the early Church), they don’t seem that wacko based on their website. (They do claim to have apostles, which can be the sign of some serious wackiness–but I’m slow to jump from there to the assumption that they believe something as monstrously wicked as this.) I have sent them an email (to satisfy my own curiosity for one thing–I like to know what different evangelical churches teach and to be aware of particularly bizarre or troubling teachings cropping up in the evangelical world), and of course you could do the same thing on your own account.
