Change my email and phone?** Are you guys serious? **So I am supposed to forget about his tears and pleading with me to not walk out of his life. I understand not pursuing an inappropriate relationship with him, but turn my back on him and report him to the Bishop? We didn’t do anything. I did not sleep with him.
Yes. There is no solution outside of cutting off all contact with him- for good. I agree with Shin who has advised you not to tell your husband.

I don’t condemn you or this priest. You’ve fallen into a natural and normal temptation. Despite how natural your feelings are, they are poison, and you must not have any doubt that you are standing between God and his priest, and that priest and his Church. You are preventing others from receiving the help that they need. You are prenting a priest from being a pure channel of God’s grace. Do you realize that after you shared sexually explicit pictures with him he went into Mass and consecrated the host? Do you not think your unconfessed, unrepantant sin was there on that alter, impeding the work of God?

The same poison is seeping into your marriage, and damaging your relationship with your husband and your children. You will wound your marriage in a profound way that may take decades to heal if your husband discovers you.

Stop now. Completely. Stop making excuses.

@ Angels Unaware If it makes you feel better we never spoke or text on Sun I held that day as I do now as sacred. When he is on the altar it is not him as man but Christ’s representative!

Yes, but you do know that if he has not confessed this he is in mortal sin when he consecrates the host? And it would be hard to imagine he’d made a good confession, because the only appropriate penance any good priest could assign to him would be to cut off contact with you.

What would make me feel better is if you would look at your family and imagine it being permanently scarred and damaged. Imagine seeing your husband lying on his bed sobbing and begging you to tell him how you could hurt him like this. Can you imagine that pain?

I’m going to agree with everyone here. You need to stop the communication, not slowly, but immediately. Do not text him or call him. No emails, no nothing.

People have said, but you haven’t responded. How would you feel if your husband was having an emotional affair with a women and refused to just stop?

Sure, you say week by week you’ll lessen your communication. But deep down, do you honestly believe this will happen? It’s like a drug, the more you do it, the more it becomes a habit. You’ll say, oh, next week I’ll stop talking to him. And just keep pushing it off. It’s not healthy. This isn’t some little thing. It’s a major issue.

No one here is condemning you or judging you. That isn’t our place, and each of us has our own struggles and sins. But, what you and him are doing is putting your souls at risk. And that is the worst thing.

To all who asked what if my husband did the same. He did 7 yrs ago. I forgave him and kept going. I did not retaliate nor is this retaliation. I was working with this Priest and the feelings developed. I left and he reached out to me. I didnt ask for this but understand I am at fault also. I will talk to him about these responses and will see if that changes his mind!

Ah, so this IS revenge, at least in part. You cannot deny that. By your ACTIONS, you are retaliating, perhaps with someone you consider “safe” because he is a priest. But it is still adultery. An emotianal affair (which is what you are having) is just as adulterous as a physical affair.

What examples are showing your KIDS??

Cut off all communication with the adulterous priest, and focus on matters at home. You will all be better for it.

God had brought you here for a reason. He is giving you a great grace and the opportunity to repent. This is a serious, serious warning. AC, please don’t underestimate how brutally Satan can tear your life apart over this.

I have tried to end this relationship. He stated that he needs me in his life because I am the only one who really knows him and he can talk to me.
Haha. He’s not the first priest to tell some younger woman that claptrap. He can talk to his brother priests. He can talk to his relatives. His mother, someone, anyone but YOU!

The worst lies are the ones we tell ourselves. You are telling yourself how hard it is to cut this off. Sin is much more fun than being good. People here are being too nice.

This man belongs to GOD! You will NEVER win that tug of war. Even if you “win,” you lose. I’ve seen this sordid game played out before. It ruined families. It destroyed the faith of children who ended up going to another church. It made whole families leave a scandal-ridden parish. It made the papers. It destroyed a man’s health.

Priests are trained to avoid this kind of entanglement. They are warned not to do this. The ones that do are flirting with betraying their own vows. He sounds like the clerical equivalent of a mid-life crisis. You just might be his little red sports car.

Proud of yourself now? You’ve attracted a man who can’t keep a vow? By the way, Sunday might be the only day sacred to YOU, but that priest is supposed to say Mass every day. And YOU are in his way spiritually. When you divert him from God and his work, and he’s on the phone 4 or 5 hours with you, YOU aren’t taking care of your husband or children and he’s not saving souls or praying. Do YOU want to meet those souls someday who needed his help but didn’t get it because YOU were in the way?

Do you want to explain to your angry sons someday why they shouldn’t abandon their faith because YOU got entangled with a priest?

And there’s no way better to make a man despise the church than for his wife to have an emotional affair with a priest.

It’s not just a mortal sin, it’s a SACRILEGE. He is consecrated to GOD.

If your husband is making comments, I promise you there are other people who have noticed. People who notice you talk about Fr. So and So just a little too much. People at the parish who noticed your relationship.

And it’s when women do things like this that many very good priests must become standoffish and distant with the women who really do need help and counseling. We all get painted with that same brush. Thanks a lot for that. You are what they warn the future priests against in the seminary.

Listen to the people here who have said nicely for 4 pages why you must cut off all contact NOW! Quit making excuses for yourself and him and deluding yourself that it’s all just friends. Satan wants you to believe that. So the next post you write will be a tear-stained one saying “We didn’t plan for this to happen. What do we do now???”

He’s the forbidden fruit, Eve. God gave you a husband. You don’t belong on the phone with any other man at 1:00 a.m. Cover it with a fig leaf all you want, God sees you in His garden and it’s not pleasing. This man prostrated himself on the altar of God and vowed his life to HIS BRIDE THE CHURCH.

How’s it feel being “the other woman.”

Let this priest work out his problems with someone trained to help. Don’t fall for the “you’re the only one who can help me” line. I knew a priest who used it… from one woman to the next.

It’s the priest’s version of “My wife doesn’t understand me.”

Don’t take his calls. Say goodbye. Pray for him at a distance. If you really love him, and it’s about HIM, you’ll pray for him. If it’s really about you and YOUR feelings, you’ll continue to flirt with spiritual and emotional disaster. And by the way, when husbands charge priests with being a correspondent in a divorce, it makes the papers. The PAPERS LOVE THIS KIND OF SCANDAL.

And what did today’s readings say about those who scandalize the innocent little ones among us?

Okay… enough from me. In case I didn’t make my point clear… STOP THIS RELATIONSHIP NOW! QUIT KIDDING YOURSELF!

Changes his mind? It’s not about him doing that and saying so. This is about right and wrong and you are holding that key to doing right and doing wrong. I would not be leaving it up to him. If you do, you’re a glutton for punishment. More communication and tears on his pillow, pain in his heart over you. He’s a priest for cryin’ out loud and he’ll play you just like any man will as he’s demonstrated. Get real and think about his career and calling and your role as a wife and mom. Actually I’m beginning to think this is fabricated here but it could be true to life for someone reading it.

So, your husband did the same thing. How did it feel to you at the time? I can’t imagine it felt good.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

I’m going to say a prayer for you tonight. Sounds like you need it, as you’re continuing to disregard our advice to stay as far away from him as possible.

It is very easy for everyone to say just cut it off but very hard. I do care about him very much. I will confess but think we can remain friends. Or shall I say hope!
You are blinding yourself! This relationship is totally inappropriate. What you are doing is an act of infidelity to your spouse. Your “hope” that the two of you can remain “friends” is simply the devil whispering to you and trying to seduce you into continuing this foolishness.

No, it will not be easy to cut it off, but what you are doing now is trying to tear it tiny piece by tiny piece, which is much worse.

If you care at all about this priest, and you say you care for him very much, then you will end this TODAY. If necessary, change your phone number. If necessary, get an unlisted number.

There is no way that this relationship can ever be good for either of you and you are damaging your marriage by trying to continue it in any manner whatever.

You’ve asked for advice. It looks to me like everyone here, including myself, would tell you the same answer. Get out NOW! Someone else talked about the readings for yesterday. Did you attend Mass? Jesus told us that if our right hand sins CUT IT OFF.

I believe that clearly speaks to you. Cut off all communication with this Priest. Go to your own Priest and confess. Accept God’s forgiveness and His cousel. Move on with your life and don’t look back.

Do it NOW.

Steph

Not that I expect to be particularly persuasive, but I’m going to echo the sentiments of all the previous posters. This man is a priest and by staying in his life you are continuing to tempt him. Please cut yourself off. I don’t think changing your cell phone number is too extreme at all. I don’t think it’s possible to have a “healthy” friendship with someone with whom you recently exchanged sexual text messages.

Try to look at this objectively. You have something like fifty Catholic men and women on this board saying that this is dangerous and damaging and you should completely cut yourself off. You are the only one saying that you can maintain a healthy relationship. The reason that everyone has been so insistent is that we can see what you cannot: a relationship between a married woman and a priest that was once sexual in nature damages the body of Christ, has the potential to scandalize Catholic and non-Catholics everywhere, weakens your marriage and his vows, and risks your eternal salvation. It is a serious sin. This man has not been good for you in the past. So firmly resolve with the help of God’s grace to avoid the near occasion of sin by completely cutting him off, walking away, and entrusting him to the care of Our Lady and Our Lord.

OK, how can this ever be even a healthy friendship when you two are not even on the same playing field. He is responsible for your spiritual guidance and yet he is putting you in a state of mortal sin and yet you will not make a good confession. So let me ask you - look at your silence - how do you know he is truly good? How do you know he has not done this before and manipulated silence from the women? You must protect yourself and your vocation of marriage from all others. You must seek guidance from the archdiocese in your area. I am sorry you are so hurt. Pray to God to give you the strength to seek forgiveness in reconciliation so you can be true communion with the Church and accept the Eucharist. God Bless you and Keep you. :angel1::getholy::gopray2::signofcross:

Satan Stands before you and your worried about his feelings ?

What about your Husbands feelings?

What about your two childrens feelings?

It is not a process, it is a choice you make.

Cut all ties and focus on your family…

This may be harsh in some people minds, but think about your actions.

You actions will effect everyone.
A priest to commit a sin (Shaken Faith)
You (Always Cathiolic) will commit sin (Shaken Faith)
What about your husbands faith?(Shaken Faith)
What about your Childrens Faith? What relationship will they have with the chruch if there home is break up?

Run, Run back to the Lord Jesus Christ, and find comfort and love in this warm embrace…

What did you do after your husband’s affair to rebuild the relationship? I daresay, you both moved into “pretend normal” without addressing the real issues in your marriage that need addressing.

I disagree 100% with not telling your husband. You are having an affair. There are serious deficiencies in your marriage and they will NEVER be addressed until you tell him and you are both willing to work on them.

You have no business talking to this priest again - EVER. Do not discuss these threads with him. Do not discuss anything with him. Do not even tell him you will not be talking to him again. Just stop taking his calls or texts. You cannot end an adulterous affair by both of you agreeing to it. You NEED to be the one to stop it. It is absolutely impossible for you to keep him in your life. As long as you continue any relationship, your priorities are screwed up. You are robbing yourself, your husband and your children.

I sound harsh, not because I am recovering from my husband’s affair, but because of the truths I have learned about adultery since then. You are trying to rationalize something that cannot be rationalized. The previous posters who told you to change numbers and emails are correct. If this man will not stop calling you, you must change your home number and your cell. (If email isn’t a mode of communication, then you should be fine keeping it.)

We are talking about the **death **of your soul, your marriage, and your children. I am saying ugly things because you are in an ugly situation. Notice that I have not addressed the beginning of the “relationship” up to now. I am not judging your previous actions. You came to us with a problem RIGHT NOW and this is the ONLY way to fix it.

I know many people disagree with telling the betrayed spouse. I know they mean well in their opinions, but their opinions are bad advice. You cannot have intimacy with your husband if he doesn’t know you fully. As long as he does not know about your affair, he cannot choose to love you. There will always be a wall between you in this area, and worse, there will always be a window opened widely between you and the affair partner. Could he choose to leave you? Absolutely. But that should be his choice to make, not yours, just as you made a choice to stay in your marriage after your husband’s affair.

It sounds like it has been easier for you to justify maintaining a relationship because he is a priest. Do you think our advice would be any differnet if he wasn’t? To me, as I am writing this, he is your affair partner, nothing more. He is dangerous for you and your family (and believe me, I know all about dangerour affair partners).

Lastly, I strongly recommend the website www.affairrecovery.com. They are a Christian group devoted to helping restore marriages following infidelity. As you know from your history, even emotional adultery hurts - a lot. Everything on the site is good, but you might want to start with 31 Reasons to Stop the Affair. (affairrecovery.com/sites/default/files/31Reasons_0.pdf)

oy vey, just imagine what would be said if people in the parish find out their priest is having an affair with a married women. If you love the man do the best thing for his soul, tell him au revoir :sad_bye: I hope to see you in heaven. :angel1:

Thank you for pointing that out. Love always acts in the best interest of the beloved. If you love this man, it is in his best interest to cut all contact immediately. If he loved you, he would cut all contact with you. (Not to mention the starting of it.) What you have is selfish and lustful and wrong. You are resisting our advice because you don’t really want it to end. And by staying, “just friends,” it will not end, it will only escalate, stealing from your husband and marriage. Love this man enough to let him go. Love yourself enough to let him go. Love your husband and your children enough to let him go.

I was reading all the responses and this one reminded me of this week’s Gospel reading where Jesus said, “If your hand is causing you to sin, cut it off. If your eye is causing you to sin, gouge it out…” . These are Jesus’ words. Cut it off. You may feel maimed and disfigured so to speak, but “better for you to enter Heaven with one hand…” rather than with 2 hands and into “Gehenna”.

Everyone who has posted above is right. You are rationalizing a deadly, sinful relationship by claiming that you would be hurting him by cutting him off. But you are hurting him, and yourself, by continuing to have contact with him. Your emotional loyalty is to this priest, not to your own husband. You may not feel love for your husband right now, but you promised to love him, for better or worse. And your priest “friend” promised that kind of love and loyalty to God alone. Do you really think that you can do better than God at helping him through his suffering?

You have asked for advice on this forum because, deep down, you know that what you are doing is wrong. It is your choice whether or not to listen, but please know that if you continue communication with this man, you will be doing more harm than you have already done.

I know (from experience) that you are in a fog right now, and are unable to have good judgement. I pray that the Holy Spirit will clear your vision and give you the will to turn from sin and trust God to get you through this difficult time. My heart breaks for you, for this priest, for your husband, and especially for your children.
