My sister is having an abortion

I have Christlike compassion for your sister and that is why I support her decision. It must have been a difficult decision to come down with.

No woman should have to suffer through the pain of an unwanted pregnancy, and the burden of supporting a baby that she cannot support.

No one should meddle with a woman’s uterus. No one. Not any government or church.
What is Christlike compassion; and how does one know that one has it? I don’t think even as great a saint as Francis of Assisi had compassion equivalent to Christ’s. You do realise that Christians believe Jesus to be god incarnate?

I don’t want to derail this thread, but I strongly believe all delusions of grandeur need to be questioned.

**Holy Mother, please intercede for us.
Hold the sorrowful, strengthen the fearful,
give aid to all needing help or healing,
assist those who are sick, in pain or suffering,
be with those needing peace, console the lonely,
comfort the lost or hopeless, guard the unborn,
pray for those who are dying or who have died,
soften those with hardened hearts,
enlighten those who do not yet see truth,
help us be brave enough to let our hurt and anger go,
show us the way to do the right thing,
protect those who are in danger,
and guide us from every evil.
May all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.
Amen **

The baby not only effects her life. That is only a part of the picture. The baby is a little soul who wants to live. The baby is already their own person, just like you, and just like her.
The baby is your niece or nephew, perhaps several people’s niece or nephew. The baby is someone’s daughter or son, two people’s actually. Your sister will always be this baby’s mom, no matter what happens. That baby is a grandchild of 4 people. The baby could some day be someone’s big brother or big sister, mom or dad, aunt or uncle, and many more titles as the child is a real person. Perhaps you could think on that perspective a bit for your letter?
Also, I know someone who was in a similar situation as your sister and never could have more children. That is to say it is not always a guarantee that she will be able to have her ideal of a perfect family in her own perfect timing years down the road.

To murder is to kill the innocent. I cannot think of anything more innocent than an unborn child…
Murder is a subset of kill, and has a special definition. It is the killing of a human being with malice aforethought. Fetuses are not considered humans under the law, as they are not yet born. The unborn do not have rights in the US Constitution…

You said that “no one should meddle in a woman’s uterus.” I believe that your advice should apply to abortion practitioner’s with their instruments of death.
Certainly, Christ had compassion on women. You say that Christ wouldn’t want women to “suffer” through an unwanted pregnancy. Please back up your claim and show me where in the Bible He stated this sentiment. Thank you in advance.

While you’re at it, could you also kindly show us the verse where he randomly sends out children that He didn’t intend to be born? Thank you again.
My point exactly. There are no Bible verses about this matter! So we are free to believe however we want.

Protestants understand this, that the Bible has nothing to say on point in this matter; therefore we have **flexibility **on how we wish to believe **politically **on abortion. They understand that politics is **secondary **to our relationship with Christ. That is why Evangelical churches are growing, at the expense of the Catholic Church.

By the way, we know that Christ had compassion for the prostitutes in the NT. So yes, Christ has compassion for women.

In addition, the patient is giving CONSENT to the practitioner to invade into her uterus.

Why can’t we have a system in which abortions are allowed, but if you are against abortion, just don’t have one??? Why does the Catholic Church have to impinge on the rights of others who do not believe? Once again, Protestants understand this and Catholics don’t…

I absolutely agree with you that a woman is smart enough to make her own reproductive choices. I’m assuming that most smart women know how pregnancies happen, so I absolutely agree that they should exercise God’s plan in regards to exercising restraint so an innocent party doesn’t have to be killed. After all, a woman’s “right” to engage in illicit sexual relations is somehow more important than an already existing human being’s right to live, right?
Having sex is a very personal decision and a very personal right. The unborn do not have rights. So yes, a woman’s right to “illicit sexual relations” trumps the rights of the unborn.

Long story short… my sister, who is 21, unmarried and with no job got pregnant. She told me and asked for my support, which I readily gave as I love my sister. At first she was thinking of keeping the baby, but now she’s set on having an abortion. She thinks that she won’t be able to give the child a proper start in life, and also, the father wants nothing to do with the child. My sister is sure that she wants an abortion - she has talked to crisis pregnancy counsellors and everything. The date for the abortion is next week.

As I said, I love and adore my sister, and I want to support her in everything she does. But I’m also pro-life, which my sister knows.

What do I do? Is there anything I can do? What should I say to my sister? I’m at a loss as to what to say because on one hand, I want to support her and love her, and on the other hand, I don’t want her to do anything which she might regret.
At all costs don’t let her. For the Babies sake and for her’s my niece had an abortion at 16 not telling anyone until years after when she was near death from drug use and depression.
This is life and death for two people. If it was my sister I would physically hold on to her not letting her go telling her you would raise the baby if she can’t.

Te views you hold are distorted Protestantism right from the devil himself

CaliLobo,
Have you ever watched a video of an actual abortion? If not, I encourage you to do so. I would post a link, but they are so graphic and disturbing that I feel uncomfortable as this site is open to the very young. If everyone knew exactly what an abortion entailed and had the opportunity of piecing an aborted fetus back together, I truly believe there would be far less abortions (even if you take religion out of the picture).

That’s a common technique of pro-lifers, to show graphic videos and pictures of abortions. But the grotesqueness of those videos and pictures is irrelevant to the issue of whether to legalize abortions. The true issue is, what is the woman going through, and what is best for today’s women?

Therefore, the grotesque video and pictures that pro-lifers use are, what we lawyers call, inadmissible evidence as it is more prejudicial than probative. In other words, it makes the jury vote a certain way for the wrong reasons.

I wasn’t looking at this from a legal perspective. I just questioned whether you ever saw an abortion video and stated that far less women would have abortions if they knew what they entailed.

Sorry… I don’t want to side track this thread, but I can’t ignore the above comment

You really don’t know the Bible at all. The Bible condems Onanism, which is NOTHING compaired to Abortion. Abortion is not new. Abortion and birth control were around during the time of Jesus. Even Luther, Calvin and Welsey knew that Birth Control were grave sins, let alone Abortion.

Jesus reached out to sinners to help them repent and turn away from sin, not to keep sinning. And don’t say that Protestants are all pro-choice and keep religion and politics seperate… I know plenty of Protestants who are pro-life. Most of the Republican Party is Protestant (as Catholics are a minority in the US).

By the way ALL Protestant Churches were against birth control until the 1930s, let alone abortion. For over 1900 years, all Christians were against birth control and abortion until the 20th century. Sounds like the work of the devil here.

And just because something is legal doesn’t make it right or moral. Slavery was legal… In some countries, assisted sucide is legal… In Ancient Rome people cheered Gladiators killing one another for legal sport… So don’t tell me just because the US courts say a fetus doesn’t have rights that abortion is ok.

It’s a common tactic of pro-choicers to blame these pictures on pro-lifers. We’re not the ones who caused these “grotesque” pictures my friend. That would be the handiwork of your side. We’re just informing women. It’s your side that is attempting to hide the truth of the horrors and brutality of abortion. Apparently you hate that something that you admit is “grotesque” is allowed to be shown women. What’s the matter Cali Lobo, surely you would want a woman to make an INFORMED choice? What better way then by showing her the truth? You are pro-CHOICE, am I correct? You mention that it makes a jury vote “the wrong way for the wrong reasons”. I can understand why your side likes to keep your pictures hidden. You’re afraid of people growing a conscience.

They do under the 10 Commandments.

Have you ever heard of Thou Shalt not Kill?

Here’s a few others:

"Did not He who made me in the womb make him, And the same one fashion us in the womb? (Job 31:15)

Yet Thou art He who didst bring me forth from the womb; Thou didst make me trust when upon my mother’s breasts. Upon Thee I was cast from birth; Thou hast been my God from my mother’s womb. (Psalm 22:9-10)

For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from Thee, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Thy book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. (Psalm 139:13-16)

Thus says the LORD who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you, `Do not fear, O Jacob My servant; And you Jeshurun whom I have chosen. (Isaiah 44:2)

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, "I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, And spreading out the earth all alone, (Isaiah 44:24)

See above.

By the way, we know that Christ had compassion for the prostitutes in the NT. So yes, Christ has compassion for women.

Sure, He had compassion. Murder isn’t compassionate though.

In addition, the patient is giving CONSENT to the practitioner to invade into her uterus.

“Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.” (Genesis 9:6)
Although, I’m against violence being done to repay the abortion practitioner for his evil, you can clearly see how much value God states every human life holds.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; 20he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God’s glory.

(Clearly this shows that we do not belong to ourselves. We primarily belong to God. So the argument that one can give consent for such an evil act is null and void.)

Why can’t we have a system in which abortions are allowed, but if you are against abortion, just don’t have one??? Why does the Catholic Church have to impinge on the rights of others who do not believe? Once again, Protestants understand this and Catholics don’t…

For the same reason we don’t have a system in which other evils are allowed. It impedes on the inherent rights of others.

Having sex is a very personal decision and a very personal right. The unborn do not have rights. So yes, a woman’s right to “illicit sexual relations” trumps the rights of the unborn.

It may be a personal decision, but it isn’t a personal right. God is very clear on the sanctity of the sexual act being between two spouses. There are a number of Bible verses that speak against fornication and adultery. Jesus told the adulterous woman to “Sin no more.”
It is absolutely evil to suggest that a person’s sin is more important than a person’s right to live.

We don’t know for sure, but we can be imitators of God, as the Bible says…

You can’t be imitators of God if you don’t know God’s Word…

Apparently abortionists and their assistants actually do spend time piecing some fetuses back together - it’s an easy way to check they got everything out of the woman. Must be like trying to assemble some sort of broken doll. I don’t know how anyone can do that day to day and not go crazy :confused:😦

The former director of Planned Parenthood, Abby Johnson, said it was horrible. With anyone with a heart, it would be.

Dear BlueEyedLady,

I sincerely mean no disrespect, and you have shared some really great advice. All of us are trying to get the OP to see things from another perspective and time is of the essence.
Let’s not argue against each other’s posts, ideas, and insights. We all would love to see this little one saved and we’re all offering advice with that goal in sight.

Let’s all merely state our advice and let the OP decide for themselves what advice to prayerfully take to heart or discard, as only they know what would apply to their situation.
Big difference between arguing and urging caution. I saw his post, I saw and respected his point, and then I urged caution. Why? Because going to the young man who got his sister pregnant could in fact endanger his sister’s life. She wouldn’t be the first person hurt or killed by a romantic partner upset by a pregnancy, and she wouldn’t be the last. Even when I was younger I dated a guy who I never would have revealed a pregnancy to, regardless of if I kept it or not. Why? Because he was angry, violent, had pretty strong stalker tendencies, etc. I would have feared for my safety and if anyone went to him behind my back I would have cut them out of my life.

In the future if you find my posts too “argumentative”, please feel free to move along.

I was perfectly kind in my response to you. I don’t know why you found fault with my post, considering that we would all love to see this little child’s life saved:shrug:

We have no idea what this man’s character is like. All in all, although you are correct that there may be some men like you are cautioning against…that certainly isn’t the norm with men. A lot of men wish they had the option to know they were fathers and if they were to have known, would have stepped up. Abortion hurts fathers too. My post to you wasn’t meant to cause offense, and I apologize if that is how it came across.

Blessings!

Have her call this number any hour:
(253) 858-5585 pregnancy crisis center

lots of women who get pregnant are alone, no job, no support/father, it’s a societal thing. So they can help. That would be horrible, to have an abortion.

You have not answered the question. If you don’t know what “Christlike” compassion is how can you imitate it?

All of your responses are trite and fatuous. They each fail to respond to the the challenges posed. Example: someone defends the personhood of an unborn child, based on Christian teaching; you respond that an unborn child is not a person under civil law. You have shifted the basis of the argument and; therefore, failed address it.

I, in an unchristian response, find you inadequate to the task you have set yourself and lacking the tenets of basic logic. I doubt you have ever read the gospels. I can’t be bothered to search any of the other threads to which you have contributed, but in an uncharitable state, I deem you a troll wannabe, and strongly suggest to other posters to not only ignore you on this thread, but block all your posts.

I apologize to all other posters for the unchristian tone of my posts, but I truly believe what we are all doing here is “casting pearls before swines.”
