Beg pardon? Are you expecting me to call you sir or trying to dictate my response? 🤔

Hi all, I’ve been hearing on the Internet of hazing and DI’s spitting on recruits foods and such cases that speak of violence. …are these normal occurances?

I just started reading about a Pararescue titled “Guardian Angel: Life and Death Adventures with Pararescue, the World’s Most Powerful Commando Rescue Force”

I also read a blog where the author praised the AirForce for it’s elite training. Rarely are there serious injuries or deaths.

I have every branch but Coast Guard in my family of origin, and appreciate ALL of them. My first hero wore an AF uniform. My daddy served his country in a missle silo.

I wouldn’t worry about the DIs spitting on food. From what my son has told me, the DIs don’t just randomly do things. They are there to help recruits succeed. I gave heard of recruits being real jerks and DIs giving them a hard time, but I don’t think it is anything you need to be concerned about if your son knows his place and does what he is supposed to be doing.

Thank you so much, I was also just wondering if any saints were ever military? I know St. Padre Pio was for a short time.

Spitting on food? If that actually happened , outside a movie script, said DI would end up in the brig aka jail. The same goes for the other stuff.

Thank you. Ofcourse as a mother I’m on every website. I know this one has a bad name to begin with but I didn’t want to discount the young man’s story (the top part). What do you all think of his story? He mentions being kicked everyday.
As you scroll down I must warn the language in the comments is awful. Thank you again Milt.

The military is huge, so it’s very possible for people to have different experiences. Most DIs are true professionals and won’t take things too far; that said, like any other large group of people, some aren’t so great. I can’t say it’s never happened that a DI has crossed the line. People in the military are just people: most are fine, a few are criminals. You can definitely find examples of people in the military being court-martialed for going overboard on discipline. Again, they’re the exception though, not the rule.

If your son joins, he’ll definitely have people screaming in his face and making him do pushups until he’s pouring sweat. There will be moments he’ll absolutely hate the people training him. He’ll have spent a ton of time carefully making his bed according to some very specific regulations, then someone will come by, decide it’s not perfect, and flip the mattress and tell him to do it again. But actually hitting him? No, I highly, highly doubt it. The vast majority are professionals who know the difference between training and hazing. They know how to take it right up to the line but not cross the line.

Thank you. I’ve spent some time reading that website and it sounds terrible. Aside from the horror stories they talk about signing up for an MOS and spending alot of your 4 years doing janitorial work? And there is something called “the suck” on the Marines attributed to a waiting time i think that’s supposed to be awful.

That website sounds like trash, someone with an axe to grind. Embellished, made up nonsense. Please, stop reading stuff like that because it’s not going to help you feel better.

“Embrace the suck” is just a way of saying accept that things are going to be crap, so learn to deal with it.

That website sounds like trash.

If a DI even laid hands on him even once, that DI would be court martialed.

When does this guy say these supposed eventd occured? 1969?

DIs have not been able to physically touch recruits since the 1980s.

Thank you. My husband said 2 recruiters are coming to our house next week. But they are texting my son directly so much, it feels like pressure. Anyway my husband said we just need to be prayer warriors now. Thanks again to you Irishmom and everyone here. Please pray for us. Thank you!

But they are texting my son directly so much, it feels like pressure.
They are under pressure themselves to seal the deal.

Recruiter duty is a coveted job in the Military, and recruiters have quotas to meet. A few months of not meeting quotas, and the guy will be reassigned.

Such is life in the chain of command, crap flows downhill.

Every Marine is going to do their fair share of time on “working parties”, aka time to clean. If the work area needs to be cleaned up, there aren’t going to be janitors coming in. You’re going to grab a mop and get to it. It’s just part of daily military life. And “the suck” is just an idiom for times when things are crappy. Aka, “Yeah, we’re outside all day in the rain…embrace the suck.”
