Jeff, here is the cheat sheet I was referring to…Very handy…

Thank you. I think I’ll order this. I have such a hard time remembering Scripture references.

Edwin1961:
On the flip side of the coin, most Protestants don’t know (or want to believe) that a Christian can also LOSE their salvation as well…I guess it’s the ‘happy happy’ attitude they take.

A Christian can lose their salvation when Jesus talks about Him being the vine and the Christian as the branches. If there is no fruit on that branch, it is CUT OFF and thrown away to be BURNED. And when Jesus talks about Him Abiding in us, that represents people who accept Jesus (I.E. Christians).

But, concentrate on your salvation topic frist and then ask them if they can Lose their salvation?
Anyone else want to chime in on this?

As for salvation: Get a copy of Jimmy Akin’s book, Salvation Controversy
Thanks, I’ll try to focus on this the next time I see them. I’ll mark the Scriptures that have been given to me here. I’ve never put any faith in Calvinism, it just doesn’t work.

Jeff, I was just thinking how much money it would be to purchase all of the books that we are referring to you. You can go to your local library and request it (they will borrow the book from a neighboring Library if they don’t have it) and I would also suggest getting a hold of the Religious education department at the church will be attending. Either they have a book you could borrow or they may even have a parish Library (my parish just opened one) that you could borrow these books from.

I was starting to think of that too. These are good suggestions you’ve brought up. I’ll check around.

I read the excerpt from Karl Keating’s book. It caught my interest right away. I really need to get my hands on that book as soon as possible. Thank you.
Jeff, I would be willing to send you my copy of Karl’s book to you. PM me if interested.

I wonder why there isn’t a ‘used book’ section on catholic.com for those who can’t afford them but *Really * need them?

Does anyone else want to donate to Jeff’s library?

My home Library mostly consists of Dr.Suess, so I wouldn’t be much help. Although I was remembering that you can buy used books at amazon.com. I mostly borrow from the Library.

Haven’t given up on the prayers for you.
I’m sure this first Lenten season for you has been quite challenging.

Thank you for your prayers, Edwin. Not much is going on right now. I do have some good news, though. My chiropractor wants me to start exercising. He said I’ve improved enough so that my body can handle it. He said the exercises will strengthen my back and hip and help with pain.

Just take it easy and do easy stuff to get your body moving. Walking, swimming (if possible), stuff that is not going to throw you out of whack.

That’s great news, Jeff. The stronger you get physically, the better you will start feeling. The prayers are still coming!

Prayers are going up still my friend…Add Edwin onto yours, his job interview went really well, and he is waiting for the final word!

I will. He told me specifically what not to do, and I’ve learned the hard way to listen to him. 🙂

Thank you for continuing to pray for me. I’ll pray for Edwin, too. I hope he gets the job. Edwin (Or anyone else) please keep me updated.

Hi everyone,
I have a question. Can I bless an object myself, or must a priest do it? Also, where I can learn more about sacramentals and how to justify them as being legitimate and not pagan? (I've read the website here, but I need something more in depth.)

Hi Jeff,

A priest should bless it.

I don’t have a site to refer you to, but just a few thoughts for whatever they are worth. The purpose of the sacramental is to lead us to Christ. It seems that the purpose for them is what puts them in a special class.

Here is a line from a book “A Handbook of Catholic Sacramentals” by Ann Ball:

“When a medal or a scapular is blessed, it does not itself become a cause of grace. What happens is that God responds to our petition to give special graces when the faithful use these things with the proper dispositions.”

That reminds me that sacramentals are never to be used as though they were “magical” objects, as that would be a wrong disposition – and can be referred to as pagan.
