Myers Still Wants To Abuse Eucharist; Shows Deference To Islam

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented on the latest developments to surface regarding the pledge made by Paul Z. Myers, a professor at the University of Minnesota, to desecrate the Eucharist:

“Myers was quoted yesterday saying, ‘I have to do something. I’m not going to just let this disappear.’ [Last Friday it was reported that he had acquired a Host.] He continued, ‘Something will be done. It won’t be gross. It won’t be totally tasteless, but yeah, I’ll do something that shows this cracker has no power.’

The question is whether it is a consecrated host which he does not say because that is when Christ is truly present.

I’ve been following that and praying for the man. I even contacted him and the University.
My husband and I were talking about this yesterday and we both fear for the man’s soul, plus many of those who are on his blog. I almost got sick reading some of those, so I quit reading them, cried about it, and now pray daily for them all.

One thing that is obvious from his latest comments is he is not anti-religious-he is anti-catholic. I suspect it has very little to do with the doctines of the Church but lots to do with the Churchs’s teaching on abortion , homosexuality, contraception, etc. He has wriiten how proud he is that daughters are as pro-abortion as he is. He does very definately need our orayers.
 
I hope a miracle happens so that he knows that there is power in the Eucharist. Wouldn’t it be cool if the Lord manifested himself visibly, like if the Host began bleeding or something? That would turn this guy around for sure.
 
I also hope that by some miracle, he finds that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist.

That said, I really hope that Myers doesn’t go through with abusing the most holy Eucharist.
 
This is just so sad. 😦 I had no idea that he had gotten a host. I hope and pray that it is not a consecrated host. If it is a consecrated host, I hope that when and if he does try to abuse the host that some miracle happens that would lead to his conversion or at least his repentance.
 
I think we all need to do reparations for all the injustices suffered by Christ through this man and those like him that seem to be prevalent today.

IMO, we are entering a new phase of persecution of the Church.

Poor short-sighted professor. I pray that God mercifully gives this man eyes that see.

There’s a lot of spite, anger, and invective in what he says. He has absolutely no regard for religion, which, in effect, makes him downright misanthropic considering the universality and innateness of religion as a human behavior (as Freud himself admitted, though Freud considered it an innate illusion). His overwhelming response to “the cracker,” what Catholics believe, and how Catholics are responding to his claims borders on sociopathic, in all honesty, and it’s frightening. Men like Meyers, though, always choose to bully people who they consider intellectually sub-par because such people are afraid, they fear, and they’re cowards. This is the nature and the origin of sin. Granted, it seems that some of the e-mails he has been receiving do not parry well with his own knowledge-base and intellect. The man’s intelligent (on a secular level), and Catholics are sending him chain e-mails with obscure Bible facts or desperate emotional pleas based in faith but not reason. Such e-mails are only hurting our cause, I believe. Such e-mails, in the face of such a staunch hater, make us all seem, to use his words, “like a special ed class for people with dingleberries for brains.” Throw Meyers up against any contemporary Catholic theologian who has spent his life studying the Eucharist and its miracles in addition to all the other facts about Christianity and Meyers would end his campaign in shame…which, considering the extent of his pride, might cause him to do much more violent things. I cannot even begin to imagine what a man like him could do if his intellect, apparently the only thing he has to rely on, were shamed.

Do pray for him. It’s all we can do until our Crusader theologian arrives on the scene, or a miracle happens in the meanwhile.

Absolutely. Whenever there is such anger it is always to do with doctrine of the church and its usually one of those mention in the post. However, i believe that if it is pure hatred, and thus demonic, the Lord will not allow this to pass without redress. I think that whilst the Lord can dig deep into the man’s heart to find the poisonous seed planted there, if the seed is “malice” “hatred” of God, then something definitive and visible will occur because many other children of God will be hurt otherwise.

I believe that I’ve previously read somewhere in a book or an article that scientists have previously attempted to analyze the substance of a Eucharistic host only discovering its accident (bread). A theologian, commenting on this work, essentially said, ‘No kidding – it’s not like we actually eat flesh or drink blood!’

Also, isn’t it true that a consecrated host will become unconsecrated if it is handled contrary to defined, acceptable use? I think I read this once also, though I can begin to think of where.

In short, I don’t think we need to worry about the host. Jesus can look after himself.
 
He smells like a coward to me. He will desecrate Catholicism but not Islam; woulc that be becase Islamists will kill him if he does but Christians will not retaliate violently?

He’s just a big chicken who prides himself in bullying those who he sees are harmless and who wont defend themselves. i suggest if he likes islam all that much - let him move to Iran for a month or two. Just a month may be enough to ‘enlighten’ him.

I still wouldn’t despair the power of the Holy Spirit to create a change of heart in this man. I do agree, though, that for this to happen will require fervent prayer on our part and a magnificent act of mercy on God’s part, given his blindness he has demonstrated thus far. I’m certainly remembering him in my prayers.
 
Whether or not Myers “does” anything to the Host, which we can only assume someone stole from a Mass, he has already desecrated It.
Desecrating a Host does not make the Real Presence cease; only destroying it so that the accidents cease can do that.
While it would be very wrong for us to take the law into our own hands and kill Myers for what he has done, it would be honorable and holy to die to keep him from doing it, if that were possible. Think of the brave St. Tarcisius.
Where did this Myers get such a mangled and perverted idea of what Catholics believe about the Eucharist? Does he really imagine that we believe the Host will defend Itself if attacked? I think this shows how materialism warps a man’s thinking and makes him incapable of the most basic respect, including self-respect, because he is only hurting himself.
We should mourn and be willing to defend the Eucharist with our lives when It is treated with disrespect, both for the honor due to Jesus Christ and for the good of the poor foolish person who does it, because Christ died for this sinner too.
Emails to such a person are useless. Only prayer (and seeing him prosecuted to the full extent of the law) will be of any use.
