His blog is sponsored-we need to email the advertisers. I note Shell Oil and La Quinta & Verizon advertise there.

I have sent emails to all of them with a link to his site.

May God have mercy on his soul, especially if it really was a consecrated host.

In his latest blog entry, where he claims to have desecrated the host, I sense a subtle response to an e-mail I sent him a couple days ago. I essentially told him that whatever he did, we Catholics would not be hindered by his actions, that we would continue worshipping and celebrating the holiness of the Eucharist. He replies, in short, that “secular humanism is a good place to start.” How convoluted. And, whatever his purpose for doing this, how futile.

Myers must have been the kind of child who grew up ignored and came to realize negative attention was better than no attention at all. It’s too bad he’s not more talented and couldn’t make a name for himself with his research, rather than resorting to blog stunts to get noticed.

Sigh…

I’m kind of torn about it all. On one hand, we needed to know so we can properly pray for him. On the other hand, I daresay we Catholics are giving him way too much ‘airtime,’ if you know what I mean. If you ignore a bully, he’s bound to get bored and go away.

Saddest of all are the hordes of people in the commentary making sweeping generalizations about things they know nothing about. They usually say ignorance is bliss but in their case, I think it’s quite the opposite…

His response tells of the perverted nature of Secular Humanism (Relativism) and why it needs to be destroyed though rejection and evangelization.

John 19

10 Pilate therefore said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and power to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above; therefore he who delivered me to you has the greater sin.”

Peace, OneNow1

What happened to “if I receive an apology from Donahue for threatening my position and threatening emails I will take the hosts back to the nearest Catholic Church”? That was just when, yesterday? He gave him what, 5 minutes to apologize?

I believe others might have hit on something when they say he may have a mental disorder.

Don’t know if anyone’s already posted this, but a priest sat down with with Myers prior to his desecration of the host. Here is a link to the interview:

Scroll down to “We Need To Talk.”
thanks for the link. after listening to this, I’ve come to the conclusion P.Z. Myers is a mental mess, and ticking off various religions is how he gets his kicks. His line of “well they are trying to force me to be Catholic and believe what they believe” is ridiculous. Nobody is telling him to believe anything. Instead of being a stand up, honest citizen and simply not desecrating something many find sacred, after being asked, he does it anyway. What happened to this being more of a “satire and protest, than an actual threat to defile the Eucharist”, as he proclaimed in an interview? So where is the honesty and integrity on his part?

hope he enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame. the guy is a nutcase, and I don’t need empirical evidence to prove it.

The seemingly only reasonable conclusion to Myers’s behavior is that there is something wrong with him, more than just atheism. His extreme anti-social behavior and apparent inability to feel empathy would appear to fall outside the realm of “normal”. One thing that is characteristic of someone with NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), for instance, is that unlike a healthy person, people suffering from NPD respond to someone who expresses emotion, like hurt feelings, with even greater cruelty towards them (rather than the normal response, feeling remorse and responding with love). Myers himself doesn’t seem to have ever written about his own mental health and I would in no way attempt to make a diagnosis myself. I just wanted to point out the parallels I see between his actions and their consistency with certain personality disorders. In a general way, I think the culpability of someone desecrating a Eucharist would be greatly diminished if their capacity for judgmentis crippled by mental illness. I know I feel less anger towards him when I consider what he may be suffering.

I hope a miracle happens so that he knows that there is power in the Eucharist. Wouldn’t it be cool if the Lord manifested himself visibly, like if the Host began bleeding or something? That would turn this guy around for sure.
That will not happen.

That will not happen.
Considering the fact that Myers has said he has already carried out his “threats”, I can see why you feel confident enough to underline it. Now the question is, how do we even know he had consecrated hosts? I saw someone on his blog saying he could easily buy a bag of unconsecrated hosts online. For instance, from a Protestant site like this:

kingdom.com/category.aspx?categoryID=430&adcode=Google&gclid=CNXE7pOy2ZQCFSY1agod6SG0lQ

I’m thinking the guy is lying, since that seems to be what he’s done so far. He claims that “Catholics” have been sending him these “crackers” and he’s been shocked by the number of “Catholic” atheists (yeah, right) who have sent them to him. Sorry, but I’m not buying it. The guy is simply a quack. I actually feel somewhat sorry for him.

I’m thinking he is, too.
I actually feel somewhat sorry for him.
I’m getting there… slowly. But I’m coming to see, too, that he deserves my sympathy more than my anger.

Yeah, onetimeposter has probably seen what I have. If you go on his blog for today, he shows pictures of the desecration of both the host and the Koran. But you’re right, how does anyone know that this host is consecrated? How do we know anything? The man spoke of civil rights being violated of the kid in FLA. in his conversation with Fr. (?) (memory cramps) What about the civil rights of Catholics? Do we not have a right to worship in the way we see fit without intrusion and abuse of what we believe is sacred? This man really is full of hate and righteous self entitlement, and his blog is full of intolerance for Catholics and really anyone who doesn’t buy into his ideology. I will pray for him when I have recovered my heart. :crying: It will take awhile after the sight on his blog. He is in very sad shape. And he isn’t the only one…there are supporters who seem to worship him and what he’s done. I am speechless at the hate I see displayed. As the poster that brought all this to our attention stated in the very 1st post: “Words fail me”

This does not improve the situation for him, for us or anyone. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Coming to think about it I regret some of my comments, specially if it pushed him to desecrate other things.
So you just regret that “it has pushed him to desecrate other things?” Shame on you.
GraceAngel.

I just heard an interesting discussion about this situation…on the Catholic Radio Station in my area, the host of the program had on a priest (didn’t catch his name) that worked closely with Fr. Amorth the famous exorcist. I came in at the end of the program and he ran by him the Professor Myers desecration and asked his view on this…absolutely and without a doubt demonic from the core from the actual desecration to the whisperings of foul play with the Eucharist. Especially when publicized to this extent, it is meant to cause torment to God’s people. He said that the professor has either invoked the help of Satan or is in complete co operation with him, and he is in very very grave danger. He is inviting eternal and everlasting disaster, was how he put it. He prayed for him and for all that have been affected by this sacrilege.
