I forgot to mention earlier that Dances with Wolves was another film that I’ve seen at least five times and liked it a lot, including the plot, acting, and scenery.
I don’t think I’ve watched that since it was originally in theaters 30 years ago. I noticed it was on a cable channel I get this week, so set it up to record.

Though, side note, a few years ago I wrote an article for my workplace’s employee newsletter about my wheelchair swing dancing adventures, and titled it “Dances with Wheels”. 😉

When U-M won a big game one year in football, I told my wife that my temporary new name was, “Dances with Wolverines”.

I’ve seen the first 3 Alien films at least 5 times each, I’m sure. My favorite horror franchise.

Also confident in saying I’ve seen the first two Terminator films at least 5 times each. Never bothered to rewatch the later sequels … what does that tell you?

  1. The Sound of Music
  2. The Mission - On the Vatican’s list of top 40 films
  3. Before the Rain
  4. The Edges of the Lord
  5. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
And a few more … 😀

The Passion of the Christ
Patton
Tora Tora Tora
The Robe
Ben Hur
The Way
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Greatest Story Ever Told
The Bridge Over the River Kwai
Murphy’s Romance
Pure Country
Sands of Iwo Jima

With several hundred DVDs, VHS tapes and digital copies, most of my favorites have been seen much more than 5 times but here a few favorites that have been seen so often I know the dialogue by heart:

From Up on Poppy Hill
Kiki’s Delivery Service ( Disney’s 1997 English dub version)
Harry Potter (1-8)/Fantastic Beasts (1+2)
White Christmas
Marvel Movies (don’t make me pick one!)

Working late and this was just the break I needed, so fun!

The Princess Bride
The Sound of Music
The Wizard of Oz

I think I’m stuck…

Here’s my first list (I’ve seen these more than 5 times each – some of them a lot more than 5 times!)
  • Scrooge (1951, Alastair Sim)
  • To Kill A Mockingbird (1962)
  • Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956, Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter)
  • Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

My Neighbor, Totoro was a close second but JiJi from the Disney version just makes Kiki’s Delivery Service that much better. Hayao Miyazaki and Goro Miyazaki are amazing.

And how about Billy Crystal as Calcifer in Howl’s Moving Castle?

Another amazing one is Joe Hisaishi, the composer of all (I think?) of the music for Ghibli. I have been trying to learn some of those pieces on piano.

Yes! Billy Crystal is wonderful in Howl’s Moving Castle! That is another favorite of mine, my default movie for a long time before From Up on Poppy Hill.

Yes, Joe Hisaishi is the composer for most of the Ghibli movies but there are some other songs in the English versions, and some other movies have other composers such as The Secret Life of Arietty (Cecile Corbel) and From Up on Poppy Hill (Satoshi Takebe). I have a playlist I made on Spotify with mostly Joe Hisaishi as it is wonderful to work to his songs.

The Ten Commandments
Rocky IV
My Name is Nobody
Holiday Inn
It’s a Wonderful Life

A Christmas Story
Arsenic and Old Lace
It’s A Wonderful Life
Independence Day
The 5th Element
Shawshank Redemption
Shrek

The recent movie musings has been fun. :). Some of these are because my dh loves them so we rewatch on date night.

I have loved Arsenic and Old Lace since seeing it on TV when I was little. It is something that my family re-watches every Halloween. Cary Grant is wonderful but my favorite scene is the exchange between Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff. “You got twelve, they got twelve . . .”
