I can almost agree with you - musicals being my least favorite genre of movies - at least the singing and songs fit the story line … and truthfully - for me it is not so much the movie itself [I did not see it when it came out] but the memories of watching that movie with my children after I was an adult and seeing it through their eyes - the memories of laughter, pop corn and yes … songs sung … so its a movie I have watched many times and always with little people I love … and now with grandchildrenArgh, make it stop, make it stop. I can’t stand that film.
If you have not watched The Mission which made the Vatican’s 40 best movies ever made - a list they published around 1996ish … much to the chagrin of Hollywood … who could not see why as in their mind it illustrates the worst in the Church’s history - I watched it and saw a story that depicted the not just the worst of the Church but also the very best … and such is life that dance between good and evil, good men who sometimes fail and some who are heroic even when that heroism is all for naught … and reading the book about the making of the Mission is really as interesting and compelling a story as the movie itself.
