1 Thunderbirds - it’s a Rolls Royce not a Ford! I barely made it to the credits!

2 War of the Worlds - the Tom Cruise version. Annoying kids and, since Scary Movie 4, I can’t take the tripods seriously.

3 The Dukes of Hazzard - Daisy Duke as a blonde? Purrrlease!!

4 Enigma - Way to rewrite history Hollywood! Which navy recovered the machine? Big clue…the word Royal was involved.

5 The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Not a bad film but Marvin was wrong, Zaphod was wrong, Trillian was wrong - she is actually meant to look like a ditzy blonde! Wish I’d not bothered.

LOVED it!

I’m in the process of listening to the audio book of ‘Shattered Sword’, as well as listening to Dan Carlin’s ‘Supernova from the East’. So it fit right in.

-Last House on the Left (1972) - horrible, violent film which is the only film I ever walked out on (actually at a drive-in and I insisted we leave)
-Blazing Saddles - one of the most idiotic films out there
-Chicago - never could understand why this film was so acclaimed. I just thought it was raunchy and awful
-Unforgiven (1992 western) - horrible violent film with no redeeming qualities
-2001 A Space Oyssey was boring and I never could understand the point of the movie if there was one

Constantine is one of my favourite ever films! TBH I had no idea about the comic book connection and that may have helped…you’ll see from my later post that I am a stickler for sticking with the original idea…but despite the more accurate TV series my Constantine will never be blond!

One thing I really liked about the recent Midway? Historical accuracy in terms of appearances of planes & ships. No guided missile destroyers anywhere.

Another thing I liked? They didn’t sugarcoat the Japanese, who were shown murdering prisoners (as they really did at Midway).

I’d love if someone made a great, historically-accurate telling of the 1941 KM Bismarck saga.

Yeah, they really did a bang up job on that film. Was very impressed. I would kind of like to see a film about the Korean War. The book The Last Stand of Fox Company would make a great film.

2001 A Space Odyssey
Eyes Wide Shut
Any Star Trek movie
Blair Witch Project
Sweeney Todd

All were trash

I used to be able to recite every episode of the radio series from memory!

  1. Mama Mia!
  2. Mama Mia!
  3. Mama Mia!
  4. Mama Mia!
  5. Mama Mia!
What in the world were you thinking Meryl ??
I was a guest at a house, and they put this on… 😱 I actually felt like I was being tortured…
Oh yes, and I am a huge Abba fan.

And what was with Pierce Brosnan? Its like.they deliberately cast the one and only person in all of Ireland who can neither sing a song nor deliver a joke properly in what is meant to be a musical comedy shrug

That part was so unnecessary.

There could have been dozens of reasons Baby’s dad didn’t like Johnny. And that the other dancer couldn’t perform. How about she hurt her ankle? She bumped her head and had amnesia? She contracted food poisoning?

Jurassic Park ~ I didn’t like the ‘sensa-round’ (or whatever you call it, it was just plain too loud)sound and the two child actors got away. I don’t like child actors
Home Alone ~ I especially don’t like overly precocious child actors
Field of Dreams ~ I don’t like baseball movies. My wife and mother, who love this film, insist it’s not a baseball film which makes it even worse
Damnation Alley ~ A post-apocalyptic film from the mid 70’s featured supposedly new and impressive special effects. It was nothing but fancy ‘colored radioactive skies. Still disturbing.
Hard Days Night ~ What’s this movie about anyway? I’'m still trying to find the plot.

Plot? You’re looking for a plot in a Beatles movie?? I think it’s a misunderstanding of the genre to do that: there’s not really supposed to be a plot. The movie’s about the band playing music and doing Beatle-y things. No plot needed. To me when they try to have a plot it spoils the movie. Yellow Submarine tried to have a plot, but when they made it their heads were so full of acid even I thought it was a waste of film… and I was tripping regularly at the time.

But you remind me of a great movie: This is Spinal Tap. I’ve got it on Blu-ray, watched it dozens of times. My wife hates it.

I hated this movie. It sounds like you liked it. @neophyte

Nominally, but I think alternate commentary is fair. And I was having a hard time coming up with five, but now that I mentioned Yellow Submarine I’m up to three.

It took me awhile to come up with 5 also because the films you regret seeing are so forgettable!!

  1. Back Beat: I had just turned 18, they came into the theater to make sure we were old enough. I thought it was odd, and then they started the movie. We walked out. I asked for a refund. It was not what I was expecting for a Beatles movie.
  2. Twilight: It was embarrassingly corny and I kept checking the time. We almost walked out of the theater. We should have. That movie amounted to very long screen shots of awkward stalker like staring.
  3. Captain Marvel: I couldn’t stand the main character. No character development occurred. I was hoping the Kree would win and take her captive again.
  4. The Invention of Lying: It was extremely blasphemous. It was awful. I was horrified and sad. I kept praying every time I heard people around me laughing. We should have walked out. I took a very long bathroom break. Gervais needs our prayers.
  5. The Rise of Skywalker: Abrams finally killed what Johnson mucked up. I found the entire movie incredibly disappointing.

From what I read they did try to release it in USA and it flopped. I understand that many people in UK love the movie. I could deal with the accents if it didn’t also have themes that really disturb me, which I already mentioned in a separate post about The Red Pony.
