How could the Catholics give us the Bible when the Word is over 6000 years old?
The Bible is compose of Both Old Testment and New Testament. In the time of Jesus Christ only the Sepuagint was the source Jewish religious leaders used. The Sepuagint is the Greek and Hebrew Text containing Old Testament Text.

The Church Council compiled a list of the Bible that we see today with the exception of KJV which remove some OT text like Maccabees 1 and 2.

Here are the list of Councils.

Pentecost (30/33AD)
The beginning of the Church; the Church exists before a determination of a canon or a definitive list of books of what was later called the Bible. The NT was not even written yet. The Bible is the book of the Church, we are not a church of the Bible.
Melito, Bishop of Sardis (c. 170)
Produced the first known Christian attempt at an Old Testament canon. His list maintains the Septuagint order of books but contains only the Old Testament protocanonicals minus the Book of Esther.
Council of Laodicea (c. 360)
A local council of the church in union with Rome produced a list of books of the Bible similar to the Council of Trent’s canon. This was one of the Church’s earliest decisions on a canon.
Council of Rome (382)
Local church council under the authority of Pope Damasus, (366-384) gave a complete list of canonical books of the OT and NT which is identical with the list later approved by the Council of Trent.
Council of Hippo (393)
Local North African Church council in union with and under the authority of the Bishop of Rome approved a list of OT and NT canon (same as later approved by the Council of Trent)
Council of Carthage (397)
Local North African Church council in union with and under the authority of the Bishop of Rome approved a list of OT and NT canon (same as later approved by the Council of Trent)
Pope Innocent I, Bishop of Rome, 401-417 (405)
Responded to a request by Exuperius, Bishop of Toulouse, with a list of canonical books of Scripture; this list was the same as later approved by the Council of Trent.
Council of Carthage (419)
Local North African Church council in union with and under the authority of the Bishop of Rome approved a list of OT and NT canon (same as later approved by the Council of Trent)
Council of Florence, an ecumenical council (1441)

Peter comes from the word petro from Greek. The Greek got that from Aramaic text, the word Rock for Aramaic is Kepha, or Cephas. Aramaic is the language of Jesus.

I like to quote a article from Catholic Answers website.

It is not error. It is Biblical. It is only in Matthew 16:18 that Peter is Rock.

If you want take a look at the website I cited here it is;

catholic.com/library/Origins_of_Peter_as_Pope.asp
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter (Petros = movable stone), and upon this rock (petra - large massive rock) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1Cr 10:4
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock (Petra) that followed them: and that Rock (Petra) was Christ

Petra is Jesus and not Peter.

Just an added note: The Holy Spirit wrote the New Testament in Greek. I will believe Him because in Mark 3:29 says…

“he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:”

So I’ll just take His word for it in the Greek.

Jesus is the Rock in other text but not in Matthew 16:18. How could Jesus be saying to himself and giving himself the key? Wasn’t he suppose to ascend to the Father? If he is gone who will remain to built his Church?

Scripture doesn’t say that. Simon, Son of Jonah is Peter. If you say Jesus is Petra when why isn’t Jesus name Peter instead of Jesus?

This sound clearly illogical and not Biblical. In Matthew 16:18 the Rock here is Peter not Jesus.

I don’t think I am blaspheming the Holy Spirit because I know the CC is guided by Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit cannot contradict itself since the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. The CC cannot error when it comes to teaching Moral and Faith.

Jesus is God because he is the Word made flesh. The Bible however was not in the Beginning.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Word = Bible
If it’s not, then what exactly does a Catholic believe the Word to be?

Please read this verse and tell me what the last 5 words say.

1Cr 10:4
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock (Petra) that followed them: and that Rock (Petra) was Christ

The Greek text does not teach that Peter is the rock. The rock is either Peter’s confession of Christ, or Christ Himself, in Peter’s answer to Jesus’ earlier question “Who do men say that I the Son of man am?”
Mat 16:18

Mat 16:18
1 Cor 10:4

1 Cor 10:4 is an Epistle from Paul to the Corinthians. What was the topic discuss here? Jesus. It was not discussing about Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Like I said, only and ONLY in Matthew 16:18, Simon, Son of Jonah is the Rock. Peter is the rock in Matt 16:18.

I also like to add that in the final verse in 1 Cr 10:4 Paul advices the Corinthians “Avoid giving offense, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God,
just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved.”

He reminds them to avoid offending.

In 1 Cor 10:4, this did not speak about Peter. It is about Jesus. You can link 1 Cor 10:4 with Matthew 16:18 when clearly it speaks of different matters.

You must also take into account at the time the Epistle was written. Not the way it is view in modern context.

The Word that John is referring to is Christ, NOT Scripture. Or do you believe that the Bible is God?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Its profound but I believe the Word of God was written in Spiritural terms when He created the World. Just as John 1:1 states.

Jhn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

When Jesus went back to Heaven… The Holy Spirit took over and gave us the written Word.

The Word is Jesus. The Word made flesh. That is what we believe. We don’t think the Bible became flesh and the Word is God.

The Bible contains God’s word on humanity’s salvation from sin. It is written by holy men inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The OT foreshadow the NT, and the NT is the fulfillment of the OT.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

It sounds profound but I believe the Word of God was written in Spiritural terms when He created the World. Just as John 1:1 states.

Jhn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

When Jesus went back to Heaven… The Holy Spirit took over and left us the written Word.
The Holy Spirit came upon the apostles on Penecost Sunday and established the Church. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth.

What is the Truth? Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He establish a Church through his apostles. What does the Church contain? What is the foundation of Truth?

Let us go to 1 Tim 3:15
But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.
The Council I mention above is the Church. It gave us the Bible. That is why we know the Scripture is inspired. The Church is also the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ.

As I said, the Word is not the Bible, but Christ. Look closely at John 1:14. He refers to the Word as the only begotten of the Father. This verse is NEVER used to describe the Bible, but ONLY used to describe Christ, the Son of God.

I pray one day you stop worshipping the Bible and start worshipping the God who gave us the Bible. Because it sure seems like that’s what you’re doing.

this is soooo weak… you can’t call a guy petra. its like calling a guy patricia instead of patrick.

peter was also called cephas. He was the rock.

the peter/petra argument is the weakest hair brained explanation and i can’t believe anyone wastes there time using it without being embarrased.

See my earlier post. Since Peter is the rock (the vicar of Christ on earth–Jesus the King, Peter the ‘prime minister’), and since Peter’s FAITH is ALSO the rock, there is no reason to think it a contradiction in Corinthians that Christ is ALSO the rock.

The Bible is FULL of passages which have multiple meanings. It is full of foreshadowing, typology, and very rich symbolism which is LOST apparently by those who claim to ‘know’ it yet since they cling to the private interpretation which Peter himself condemned, continue in egregious errors on multiple counts.

BTW my ‘Wordy’ friend, do you believe that Jesus and the Bible are equal? One and the same? It sure sounds like it! And where was the Bible from AD 33 to AD 400?

furthermore, it is so obvious what that text in mattew means. He is saying Peter you are in charge…what you say goes. Not because youre great but because God willed it.

WHY is this so hard to understand?

I had a friend and complete stranger of the bible read that verse and asked him what it meant.

he said

“sounds like Jesus just told Peter that he is the man. The CEO”

the text is so plain and obvious. My friend has no idea the signifigance of that verse to anyone yet he clearly saw what it said.

Be fruitful and multiply.!!!
Abortion is wrong since Its a commandment…" Thou shalt not kill"

Jan
Where in the Bible is life defined? when does a life begin?

That is the real debate. Most everyone thinks that killing is wrong. many don’t think abortion is killing.

Yes they do, in their hearts, their conscience knows otherwise. I am sure they thought of themselves as life in their mother’s womb.

But the Bible clearly addresses when life begins.

**

Jeremiah 1:5

5Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Psalm 22

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

Luke 1

41And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

**

Abortion is murder, and violation of God’s Commandment. For a baby in a womb is without defense. It is a detestable act in the sight of God.

**

Rev 21:8

8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

**

Anyone who thinks abortion is fine is going against God. Repent of this sin, confess and forsake it, and trust in Jesus Christ.

Peter would disagree with you. Peter himself called Jesus the stone and the rock.

1 Peter 2

4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
