The Coca-Cola and water will be all I have tonight. Too exhausted to make anything else since I shopped for Lent and just got everything put up. First time I’ve really been out since getting the flu.

I bet you’re relieved that’s over.Quite a shopping.
Having Lambs fry (fried onion, bacon and lambs liver tossed in flour) It’s Offaly good 😁

Yes, glad the shopping’s over. Now I can go back to concentrating on getting well so I can have my surgery. The hospital I am to have mine at has halted all surgeries that aren’t emergency due to the flu epidemic. They need the beds for the flu patients that have to be admitted.😬

It almost sounds like every second person is coming down with the flu…can you get hit with it twice if it morphs?
I’m keeping on with prayers, hope you are building strength,Lil.

There are several strains of flu that can be caught. The vaccine doesn’t cover all of them. The good news is you can’t catch the same strain if you’ve already had it. And I’ve caught two of them already.

The bad news is they keep lengthening the deadline til it’s over. Right now, it could last through May. Tomorrow, they may have it set at June before it’s over. I’m just glad Mama and I got our flu vaccines in October. Otherwise, it’d be much worse for both of us.

Even so, I may not go in to receive my ashes on Ash Wednesday. (I love receiving my ashes each year.) I don’t want to make others sick. And I don’t want to get sick. I’ll call Father and make a final decision after that.

Can some one else bring the Ashes to you?Can it work that way if they’ve been blessed ?
I wonder if you can keep track of which viruses you’ve had, and what to be aware of for the next one and all its symptoms in advance?

That is something I plan to ask Father when I phone.

As for the flu viruses, I know which ones I’ve had. But if they keep adding more to the list, it might get harder.

Pasta (spaghetti) w/ fresh grated parmesan, butter
Steamed greens - dandelion and kale
Glass of bordeaux, red

Salt and Vinagar Chips, or crisps as some call them .
And a Monster energy drink,to combat the lathargy from heat 😉

Black coffee for now and perhaps a pumpkin spice smoothie in an hour or so.

Mmmm.

The dandelion & kale sounds awesome.

(and the spaghetti of course)

Ham Salad Sandwich: Ham, Boiled Egg, Celery, Mayo, Dijon Mustard, Cream Cheese

Celery & Peanut Butter

a Cheese crisp with salsa—yes, I ate the whole thing by myself,—some cashews, and tea.

It is. I may have to give up the caramel dip during Lent. But I don’t plan to give up the apples. They help my energy level go up. And right now, I can use all the energy I can get.

I heard on the news that the flu vaccine only cover 30% of the strains of virus going round now.

I don’t take the flu vaccine because it rarely covers all strains, I rarely get sick anyway, even if exposed, and I don’t trust vaccines (the Zostavax vaccine for shingles, which I was going to take, is now known to cause all sorts of bad things, including shingles!). I’ve only had flu once in my life, in the mid-90s, so I’ll take my chances for now and take antivirals right away if I do get sick. Maybe when I’m older, I’ll get the vaccine.

Hope you can have your surgery soon, Lily, so you feel better and can stop some of the meds.

Right now, I take a sublingual B-Boost vitamin. Good grief, it does give an energy boost! I was surprised and a little alarmed since I’m usually so relaxed and not terribly energetic.

Oh, I had my usual oatmeal. Will probably have a diet drink for lunch or some cheese and crackers. I don’t know if I can eat my usual salad because three of my temporary crowns came off (in the back, going to the dentist on Monday).

I take the flu shot because I’m my mother’s caregiver. When she was working, she got the shot at work and I relied on my vitamins, herbs and minerals. But now that she is retired, my decisions are always with her in mind. I think things would’ve been worse for us if I hadn’t gotten the shot too.

The local news says the flu season is supposed to end in a few weeks (which is good). But then, they said it won’t end til May. They need to specify that while the flu season usually eases up in March or April, this year’s may last through May. If it does ease up sooner, I can have my surgery sooner. I’m not going to feel totally better until I have it.

In the meantime, I’ve decided I’m going to have my apples each day of Lent. Since my surgeon says I have to eat 6 small meals a day, the apple slices will be one of the small meals. The calorie content is such that they wouldn’t equal a full meal anyway.

Maybe sliced raw veggies for a small meal. But haven’t decided on the rest. There are so many things I can’t eat til I have the surgery. And I’m really starting to feel frustrated because it’s like one step forward, 20 steps back.

Mama had pizza for breakfast. It’s National Pizza Day, after all. She’s going to have potato salad for lunch.

Yes, you definitely made the right decision. And I understand your frustration about the surgery. I’d feel the same - the sooner the better!
