I actually like A Night to Remember. Then again, I’m always a fan of true classic movies.👍

Vampira (nee Maila Nurmi) died about a year ago. She was awesome. It was so sad to see her go. She never got her due. There was a movie about the real-life Vampira that might help explain why some of us liked Tim Burton’s 1994 movie on the subject:

So, to clear up any confusion: the real Ed Wood. Woof! Bad movies. :nope:

In my post anyway I was referring to Ed Wood movies, not a movie about Ed Wood. And I agree about Rocky Horror as well. Going to see that in charming old movie houses before they became practically extinct in favor of the mega movie complexes was an event and loads of fun.

And deservedly so. It was appallingly bad. It turned me off the franchise completely. I didn’t watch another ST film until the new one came out this past year. And I’m a Trek fan from back in the 60’s. :cool:

Actually Tee, my personal feeling is that somehow it’s a DREAM that Captain Kirk had. It’s the only way it makes sense to me. 😃 Then again, I haven’t seen the new movie yet.
 
I haven’t seen this movie, but, judging from the trailer, I think it could be a contender:

I know I’ve made arguments in the pass for such classics as the Beast of Yucca Flats and the movies of Ed Wood, but I saw one just the other day that totally changed my perspective of what a Bad movie is. And this movie had so many big name stars in it too. Like John Wayne, Rita Hayward ect.
This movie is so bad that you really can’t even sit there and make fun of it. It is painful to watch.

And the name?

The Conqueror.:sad_yes:

No wonder they hid it away for so many years.

Wayne must have been glad that he was such a big star by that time, because that’s the type of movie that could kill a career.:stretcher:

I did once. They went on and on and on about how wonderful the show was and the deep meanings in the episodes (Civil Rights, Vietnam). After a while I looked over and said “you do know you’re talking about a show in which people are running around in thier underwear shooting laser guns at each other, right”?
Man…you’d of thought I blasphemed the Blessed Mother.:eek:
Surprised I wasn’t beat up/😃

Anyway…as to the movies. The first one looked like a leftover script from the TV series. Too much emphasis on special effects, A total of 15 MINUTES in that movie is spent staring out the window. Watch it sometime with a stopwatch.
The Wrath of Khan was great…mainly because Ricardo Montalban chewed up the scenery. IMO, no ST film topped this one. The Voyage Home was silly and made no sense. The franchise went downhill from there.

It did. Literally: Filmed near the site of contemporaneous nuclear testing grounds, the set was contaminated by nuclear fallout. After location shooting, much dirt from the location was transported back to Hollywood in order to match interior shooting done there. Scores of cast and crew members developed forms of cancer over the next two decades, many more than the normal percentage of a random group of this size. Quite a few died from cancer or cancer-related problems, including John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Pedro Armendáriz (who shot himself to death soon after learning he had terminal cancer), Agnes Moorehead, Thomas Gomez, John Hoyt and director Dick Powell. People magazine researched the subsequent health of the cast and crew, which it published in November 1980.

I thought “Poltergeist” and “The Dark Knight” were cursed movies, but “The Conqueror” really takes the cake.
 
I just watched a GOOD bad movie with Joel and the Bots: The Crawling Hand! Heyyyy, little buddyyyyyyyyyyyy! :rotfl:

While you’ll NEVER catch me running around in Trek p.j’s I am a HUGE Trekkie and actually have to say the dudes you talked to were correct. Star Trek did have a LOT of episodes that had heavy social commentary for the time or historical analysis, social conscience, etc. Just a few examples: “The Cloud Minders” was an episode about racism and elitism. The people up in the cloud city above are literate, bright, artistic, love rhetoric, and scholasticism. The people down on the surface do all the heavy lifting, the grunt labor, and are forbidden an education. The cloud-minders keep them that way, stunted and down. “Let that be your last battlefield” was about the absurdities of racism. “A Private Little War” was about the vietnam war, paralleled on another planet where the federation is arming one side of these natives, and the klingons arming the other side. Total parallel. Some episodes are about pacificism and the pitfalls of it. Some are about not learning the lessons of history like in “Patterns of Force.” One episode, “Obsession” is paralleling Kirk to Moby Dick’s capt. Ahab, obsessed with hunting down a beast that terrorized him years back. Many episodes deal with humanity and what it is to be a human, weaknesses, sins, failings, and deficiecies included. I think the show had a lot to offer. You must remember the times in which it was made. The special effects were good for the day as was the set and art. Nowdays it is obviously behind. But the stories, the thinking behind the show, the overall philosophy of it was first rate IMO. That’s why I remain a fan…Live long and prosper! 😉

Am I to understand you DIDN’T like Ed Wood, the movie with Depp and Landau!!?? BLASPHEMY BLASPHEMY!! I ADORE that flick!! I’ve seen it eight or nine times. Love it!!! How could you not like, scratch that, LOVE, this movie!! RRRGh! lol :eek:
