Yes - which makes his stuff very difficult to watch on any normal channels, because they always “blank out” the swear words, so with his movies, you just feel like there is something seriously the matter with the audio, since it keeps cutting out.
I couldn’t get into Jackie Brown, and I don’t know the Grindhouse flicks - but yeah, Kill Bill was awesome.
I feel like he is also, in some way, trying to highlight a moral point, there - first, he makes you laugh at a murder (and if you are thoughtful at all, that makes you pause - what kind of people are we?!) and then, what are we laughing at? The character says, in an off-hand way, “What? I said I was sorry! What do you want me to do?!”
Clearly, not only is he not sorry, he has no idea what it means, to be sorry.
The only thing he was really sorry about was that his shirt got messed up, and he had to wear the Hawaiian shirt, instead, which he didn’t like. But he didn’t care at all about the boy - the boy’s death affected him exactly the same way as if he had accidentally closed a door in someone’s face, or broken a flower pot by mistake. “It was an accident. Get over it.”
The boy’s uncle was just as bad. “The kid was an idiot. But what do I say to my sister? She was fond of him. She will be upset.” Again, exactly as if they had broken her favourite flower pot, instead of killed her son.
In a way, it is an insight into the thought processes of psychopaths - but then, at the same time, since we find ourselves laughing instead of horrified, he is also pointing out to us that we, too, are potentially psychopaths - we have it in us to be just as bad as they are.
