Hey, I love the Postman! Much better than Waterworld. You got something against patriotism?
But I absolutely agree, Howard the Duck is the worst, if you don’t count the torture-horror movies that we all totally ignore.

“The Wicker Man” series is hardly scary, even with the remake. Then again, the horror genre is hardly scary anymore especially in the West.

Don’t know if this has been posted but “Ed Wood” was mind numbingly stupid. It was a bad movie about someone who made bad movies…UGH.

I guess two threads have been combined? I had subscribed to and had posted in a thread named “What’s the Most Unsettling Movies you’ve ever seen?” in the Popular Media forum. Since that thread has now become “Name the worst movies ever made,” I guess two threads have been combined and the name was changed to the name of the older thread?

It won a lot of Academy Awards.
I figured I must have missed something in the movie so I read the book. It was boring. I still don’t get the point of the story. Can’t even remember what the story was.

This is a case of the Academy giving awards to a talkative English production to encourage more ot them being made. Fortunately for the world, nobody did.
Haven’t seen it on televison, have you?
All the members of the Academy praised the movie to make it look like they had good taste. It’s the herd mentality. If only some people had said what they really thought of it, the awards would have gone to more deserving movies.

You know I would say the same for “Ordinary People.” All this critical acclaim and it was not only boring, by the end I hated everyone in the movie. Oh and “American Beauty” another dreadful, boring, and unpleasant movie about a lot of really unpleasant people.

Read Michael Medved’s book “Right Turns” and you’ll learn a lot about why some movies get critical acclaim when they seem not to deserve such accolades.

I must disagree. American Beauty was a superb movie!

Now, Lost in Translation- THAT was a stinker!

I guess I judge a movie partly on whether I like any of the characters. American Beauty was filled with really disgusting people engaged in disgusting activities. The EWWWWW factor was too high for me to find anything redeeming in that 90+ minutes of my life wasted. I am fascinated though that anyone (but paid critics) liked it as I’ve never met anyone who had a different opinion. Do tell what was good?

BTW one movie many liked, Titanic, I thought was absolutely boring with awful characters. I was cheering for the iceberg!

Well I agree with you on Titanic.

Regarding American Beauty- for me I don’t have to like a character to find them intriguing. I found the film visually striking and enjoyed the multi-faceted nature of the relationships in the film. I also tend to like most of what Kevin Spacey does.

I just think it was an amazingly well put together film. Interestingly, everyone I have spoken with really liked the film.

Perhaps we keep different company. 🙂

BTW: “Fargo” may be one of, if not, my favorite movie.

The Exorcist may be up there to, but for different reasons.

Agree on Fargo. Great classic movie with clear bad guys and good guys (and girls!) Loved the wonderful midwest accents.

Exorcist was well done, just a little too icky for my taste.

Don’t know if you or any of the other CAF posters on this thread are old enough to remember but my standard for worst of the worst was set with 2001 A Space Odyssey. BLECH! I literally tried three times to get through it but could not.

Titanic was a great visual effects movie, and some of the supporting actors were excellent,

but the soap opera of Rose, and her mother who was afraid of making a living as a seamstress, and Jack Dawson played by …anybody remember his name? 🤷 …who was shamelessly overacting from beginning to end, were all boring after a while.

The part where the stern half of the ship stood straight up after the ship broke apart was unbelievable. If the ship broke apart in the first place, whatever remained would not be strong enough to raise the stern half straight up.

They should have replaced the Rose/Jack soap opera with something like they did in the Clifton Webb / Barbara Stanwyck version of Titanic ( 1953 ),

although with younger characters than Webb maybe. An estranged couple seems to be getting together again on the ship, but it’s too late. The sinking separates them forever.

Webb and Stanwyck would not make it with today’s audiences, but they did present more serious issues than Rose and Jack who basically just wanted to get into bed.

How about this idea: Two couples with difficulties in the same movie. A Webb/Stanwick team for sophistication, and a Rose/Jack team with more serious issues than ‘when do we get in the sack’?

My dad went to see this in the theater when it was first released. Told me it was the only movied he’s ever walked out of.

Ah! Looks like someone who watched “Mystery Science Theatre 3000”. What a tremendous show!!! They showed all the dredge at the bottom of the cesspool of moviedom! For all time worst film, I gotta vote for “Manos”–loved that “liturgical dance”!
How about “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”? “Prince of Space” with the “Phantom of Krankor”? How about the “Atomic Brain”, where the mad scientist keeps his girlfriend’s head in a lasagna pan? I could go on and on. Boy, they don’t make 'em like that anymore! 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
 
As I think I stated a while ago, the worst film I ever saw was called “Raiders from the Deep,” made in the 1960’s, about an unsuccessful bank robbery. It had the look of a terribly filmed black-and-white home movie and the “plot” was totally ridiculous.

However, I inadvertently tuned in the comedy-horror film “Teeth” last week. It’s a movie from the Sundance Film Festival (2007) and some might appreciate it, but not me! It may be more appealing to women than men for a very good reason, which I’m not going to elaborate upon at the moment.

Isn’t the head in the pan movie The Brain That Wouldn’t Die?

Roger Corman’s The Undead comes to mind. As does Treasure Island w/Jack Palance as Long John Silver – a bad movie that made itself worse by having Jim Hawkins side with the pirates at the end.
