Kelly is a family name and we’ve wanted to use it for awhile, but there were never any Saint Kellys so we didn’t.
Oh but there is! It just happens to be spelled in the Gaelic way, Ceallach or Cellach. It’s where we get the anglo Kelly from.

Ceallach is my middle name. Can’t decide if I like it or not…but it’s better than Shannon:p

INTERESTING! I never would have guessed that was how one pronounced it! And to think there was a St Kelly all this time…!

Has anyone ever looked at your middle name and just been totally stumped as to how to say it?

Strange - I know a girl who’s an Alexandra Grace. beautiful names. She’s Alex for short, of course.
Well, I’ve always loved the name Grace (plus, it’s a beautiful concept) and Alexandra would be a nod to my mother as Sandra (my mum’s name) and Alexandra are variations of the same name

Did anybody read the articles about the couple in New Zealand that wanted to name their son 4Real? Why? Because when they saw the ultrasound they realized that the pregnancy was “for real”. Well, the government stepped in and said that it was illegal for a child’s name to start with a digit. OK, the couple said. We’ll name him Superman and call him 4Real. ~shakes head~ You have to wonder if, at any point, they considered the child’s feelings or if they just wanted to annoy the government by picking out another wacky name.
Another pet peeve of mine is when people create unnecessary alternative spellings for normal names. For example, Bri’Yanna (Brianna) is the daughter of a co-worker. It also makes me wonder if people realize that an apostrophe in a name indicates a guttural stop in the pronunciation.
On the other hand, I have a few friends who have some up with some beautiful names for their children. Rowan Sage, a unique but lovely name. Sophia Isabelle. Louisa Rose. Daniel Khaled (the father is an Arabic linguist).
Personally, when I have children I want names that are actual names (no inventing things like LaPaula’quette, who was my cashier at Target a while ago), but aren’t super common. My name, for example, is Jennifer. ~sigh~ It gets annoying to have five friends in your social group with the name name.
Hannah Grace
Vivianne Adrianna
James Gregory
Grace Alexandra
Therese (Tess) Gisele
Henry Charles
Amelie Yvette
Simon Theodore
Who knows? Maybe my future kids will hate the names I give them because by then it’ll be fashionable to have names like Apple and PIlot Inspektor. “Mom, why couldn’t I be Jermajesty? Andrew is sooooo last decade!”
I have a Hannah Grace. I didnt realize at the time that Hannah means Grace. It rolls beautifully off the toungue when both names are called for:D

JMJ

Working in the NICU I have seen my share of interesting names…

A few of my favorites:
Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards, pronounced Ne-VAY-uh)
Miracle
Demon (pronounced de-MONN)
twins: Orlando and Orlandraneisha (poor kid…imagine learning to spell that in Kindergarten!!)
