Names that make you go, "Your mother's epidural worked a little too well."

My dad’s name is Leon, he was called Leon the peon as he was growing up. Needless to say, he doesn’t like his name.
 
I think children should be named after someone or have some special meaning. Brianna means strong. Mia means wished for child. Sean means gift from god. Caleb means bold. Devin means poet. I think giving a child a name with a special meaning makes that child feel special.
 
You do have to wonder what people are thinking.

After reading this post I think my family needs to lay off my cousin for picking Mercedes (from Literature, not the car).

My husbands father’s name is Kim, and his uncle is “J” as in the letter.

That’s important to us also. We’re also choosing to name our children after people we love. Annette was my grandmother’s name, and Tyron was my husband’s brother’s name.
 
Well how about April, June, Tuesday, Wednesday, Bailey…
and another name-Tre…I know a kid named LeeRoy Brown something…so his first whole name and middle name is Leeroy Brown…🤷

How about Gayden?
And Gavin??
Angus???

well my name rhymes with Pepto…and they would call me ??? Pepto! And my last name has nothing to do with Medusa except for similar spelling without the A but they would call me ??? Pepto Medusa!!! 😦

Kids could be so mean sometimes!! LOL…
I didn’t care though, I thought it was funny they had to pick on someone just because!! :rolleyes:
 
If I ever have kids, I’d love to name a boy Dante. My father is Florentine, my family is very literary, and I fell in love with Dante’s poetry over the summer. I also love that it means “enduring”. Of course, my mom’s like, “K, you can’t name an Italian American boy Dante! He’d grow up to be a stereotype!” I’m just like, “Seriously?” One thing I hate is the assumption that non-Anglo names are weird and if you name a kid an ethnic name, you’re sentencing them to a stereotype.

I like “weird” names and names that have meaning (even if it’s just after someone I really admire). Some I really like

How I feel for the mother who reads this thread and sees the name of her own beloved child in the “what were they thinking” list. 😦

Why in the world are these threads even allowed? :confused:

I have to say nothing weird about Leroy or Leeroy or Lee Roy Brown–that’s my grandfather’s name, why would it be weird? 😉

I know an April, she’s my best friend and was born in October! Also knew a Gavin in college. The others aren’t my style, but I’m sure perfectly nice people have them.

There certainly are strange, and even inappropriate names out there, but for the most part, they are just different than what we would pick! Check out some Saint names, they are WAY out there, too…

I was thinking the same thing. Doesn’t this fall into the unchartiable catergory?

Yes they are great people I know almost every one for a long time…and even they are like “OMG can you believe what my parent’s named me?!!” I just thought I should mention them…nothing wrong with it, they are different and I mean if you think about it…April? It’s a month…Tuesday?? It’s a day of the week!!! 🤷 And like I said I am not too fond of my name either so…uhm…yeah!! 😉

One would think. But the last thread like this was allowed to continue for dozens of pages. I think it is horribly bad taste.

I just had a granddaughter whose name is Lucy. She was born on the 15th of September and her cousin (a priest) said that she ought to be named Dolores since she was born on the feast of the Sorrowful Mother. Maybe that would be a good confirmation name.

And about Jennifer. I recently had a student whose name was Jennifer only she spelled it Gynnipher.

At least Lucy will never have her name misspelled.

That’s actually quite close to the Polish name for Stanley (Stosh). That is, if you pronounced the ‘a’ “say ahhh” instead of the ‘a’ in “stack”. It’s what we called my great-uncle.

Stash can be a nickname for Stanley or Stanislaus.

My granddaughter is named Destyni Ravyn. Not only weird, but spelled funky. That name just doesn’t suit a little girl with blond hair and blue eyes. Her brothers are Jordan and Hunter, normal and even popular names. Destyni. Sigh. Her other grandmother has offered to pay to have her name legally changed.
