For sure, this is a problem.The problem is not that they emphasize social issues. There is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that they emphasize them to the absolute exclusion of everything else.
I wish there was a publication that did not cater to fringes, whether they be on the left or right. Personally, I don’t think the National Catholic Register is all that terrific either. But I do prefer it to the Reporter by a long shot.
Even the Register filters things through political lenses and often seems to cater to (politically) right wing donors (and I’m not referring to abortion, other life issues and homosexuality - the Catholic view on these things is clear). This is very obvious on some EWTN shows, quite often with “The World Over”.
I think the USCCB should have its own newspaper and television network.
