The NCR is non-Catholic garbage. Anyone supporting their tripe like doesn’t actually want to be Catholic to begin with. They can however lead others away from God, which is why we need to oppose them and watch out for them.

The problem with them losing funding is that satan loves dissidents, and he has a lot of money to continue funding this sort of anti Catholic News. The battle will continue to rage on until the church snuffs it out.

I bet you hate Commonweal too.

You’re right in that the link doesn’t work. Wrong in saying Abyssinia’s allegation is unsubstantiated! Here’s the link. By the way…scummiest “catholic” publication in history…thus far!

How dare those writers have their own views! How dare they express them! 🤷

Blabbering. Scummiest. Hope they go bankrupt. This thread is ripe with the kinds of language that drives people to the NC Reporter.

No. The reason Catholics in good standing with the Church on things such as traditional marriage, all male priesthood etc. use this type of language, is because most are fed up with a so-called “catholic” publication blatantly defying Church teachings, and taking lightly the souls who are put in harms way by buying into this kind of tripe through lack of proper catechesis! Especially when they (NCR) have to know full well that hell will freeze over before the Church will ever cave-in to this kind of dribble.

Dribble! Excellent. Look, I’m just pointing out (again) that the anger directed at this publication is purposeless. Their views aren’t in line with the Church on some occasions, the Church isn’t going to change, and so therefore we’re wasting time and infecting ourselves with anger for no reason when we spew hatred at the NCR and its readers. And if the secular media believes that what the NC Reporter says is in line with the Church, so what? Since when do/should we care about the secular media’s reporting?

Why should concerned Catholics care? Because of this…please read!

So why, in this lackadaisical world, should there be any effort at all to defend what is good and holy and true, against insidious claims, heh?

It’s not like their poison affects the minds of the weak and uninformed in any way, right?

You’re right. Their love of gay marriage, a female priesthood, and abortion probably has nothing to do with it… Please. People read the Reporter because they agree with the anti-Catholic teachings.

Why do you post objections to people not liking the Reporter’s views on the teachings of Holy Mother Church? Probably the same reason.🤷

The issue is souls, and a desire to protect those who have not been formed in the Faith and to properly instruct those who have been malformed.

Any Catholic who takes the Divine Mandate seriously will be concerned about such things.
In fact, any Catholic who cares for anyone else at all, and for their ultimate good, will be concerned about this.

“Since when do/should we care about the secular media’s reporting?”!!!

Ever since the martyrs first gave their lives defending the Faith. Ever since we became interested in that little thing called “Truth”.

It seems like some on this thread are being threatened to “shut up” through posts that (ironically) disagree that anyone should have strongly held opinions

If one thinks a post is too negative, then why quote it and re-post it ?
In fact, if one thinks the thread is useless , then why subscribe to it? Why bother with it at all?

In Post #51 , I meant the Great Commission, not the Divine Mandate.(But I guess that fits too!)🙂

I’ve never read this publication. I went to their site via a link someone on this thread provided.

What I see is an extensive site with many articles. They cover a broad range of topics. I can see an obvious left leaning tone to the site, just like reading Fox News, actually, which caters to the right. It does seem to have some articles of interest.

We’re talking about a print readership of 33,000 here. I can’t imagine the online version brings in a tremendous surge of readers. And this is what’s causing so much distress? The number is miniscule compared with the number of Catholics worldwide – I’d stake a hefty bet on the SSPX’s numbers being far larger. Slamming this publication and its readers only brings more attention to them. 🤷

Oh, yay! The ad hominem/tu quoque attacks have arrived.

I’ve told no one to “shut up” – I’ve suggested (firmly) that the anger directed at this publication serves no legitimate purpose. And given the descriptors used here, anger is the emotion that’s being displayed. This attitude does not encourage any reader of the Reporter to shift gears and reverse course – it essentially describes them as fools. Who’s persuaded with that sort of rhetoric?

“Anger” and “disdain for falsehood” are not the same thing.

Anyway, what is wrong with anger if it is to defend what is right? Even our Lord had that kind of anger.

But I don’t see anger here, just disdain for falsehood, or in this case, the insidious mixture of truth with falsehood, which can actually be more dangerous for souls.

Actually, those who have attempted to derail the thread have almost been successful. Let’s get back to the topic and stop ranting about whether or not another person’s tone is “angry” or whether or not they are “slamming”(!) a publicaton and thereby failing at “persuading it’s readers to shift gears”. That’s not the topic of the thread anyway. Good try, though.

You hear “disdain for falsehood,” I hear disdain for falsehood expressed via anger. Anger that really serves no function.

But I will take exception to Christ’s anger being referenced – this seems to come up as justification for all sorts of presumed righteous anger. His anger was registered once and it was in a specific context that isn’t relevant to the issue at hand.

Who’s attempting to derail? Who would care enough to do so? When a poster responds to the language used by others, that’s called conversation.

Please take a deep breath and try to calm down. If the comments on the thread are not phrased the way you like them, then simply ignore them. Everyone has a right to be heard, and their deep concerns perhaps justify some of the descriptive language used.

Quite frankly, I find their comments much more palatable than the sacrcasm and exaggeration used in response to them. That also does not contribute to civil conversation.
