Not at all!
You are only using 1-2drops of it…not a gallon at a time:D
Also you are not using cooking grade olive oil…but skin grade olive oil…both are very different
LoL, you just saved my husband from coming home to a wife that smells like a pasta salad!!!

BTW, as someone said olive oil is the best hair conditioner too! But sleep with a turban on.

i would say to not ever use soap on the face, no matter the brand. it is very much too drying and harsh, does not dissolve makeup or oil but just smeres it around on the surface of the skin, this is why they make special facial cleansers. Use them.
i just discovered the wonderful brand L’Occitane. i am using all the lavender products for cleansing and they are very terrific. And smell so nice too. plus they make very nice men products which my husband loves, and a wonderful hand soap and many lotions. They have many shops throughout the world, and have a website too i think. www.loccitane.com.

As for the body, i personally love the fresh smells of the blue aqua-marine fresh shower gels, oceany fragrances, nothing fruity. Once more, i prefer shower and bath gels to bar soap. Haven’t use the bar soap for maybe 10 years now. Neither has the family.

i believe much improvement can be made for the skin when the correct product are use. it is best to know the skin type and go from there.

BTW where do you get the almond oil? (Is there any place aside from a health store?)

Now this sounds really interesting 🙂 Can you tell us what proportion you used in mixing the two? How many parts lavender to how many parts sweet almond oil, or however you did it? 🙂

I’m a bit leery of the lavender … I love the smell (I have some wonderful lavender shampoo from France) but it’s VERY powerful stuff … and scented stuff on my face usually causes problems. Maybe a tiny bit in a lot of sweet almond oil? 🙂
Well, I got a small dropper bottle at the health food store when I picked up the other ingredients…it was only $1.49…figured it’d make it easier. I only filled it half full (probably about an ounce and a half or two ounces?) and I put 20 drops of lavendar in…I think next time I’ll go with 15. It’s not overpowering, but I’d like a softer scent, nonetheless.

I’m not sure how the others are getting only a couple drops all over their face and neck?? Tips please?? It’s taking me like 10 - 12 drops…still all absorbs in and isn’t greasy. In fact, I’m used to having a LOT of shine after just a few hours…I’ve noticed very little shine now and it’s after like 8 or more hours! Go fig!

I agree on the drinking lots of water…I don’t drink soda - nasty stuff! :tsktsk:

I cant explain it…but I only use on average 2 drops of olive oil and it covers my whole face…

L’Occitane is the source of the lavender shampoo I was speaking of earlier in the thread, as a matter of fact 🙂 I agree, their stuff is terrific.

Their lavender is good, but the BEST shampoo I’ve ever used in my entire life (and I’m a shampoo junkie, so this is ***really ***saying something 😉 ) is their Honey Foaming Jelly for Body & Hair. If I could afford to, I would use it every single day … but I settle for once a week since it’s a bit pricey. L’Occitane also has some really heavenly-smelling vanilla-orchid lotion/shower gel.

This a fun thread, and sorry if we’ve gone off topic :o

OTC products were always too drying, even for my oily skin. Then I found a great product: Philosophy"s Purity Made Simple. It is very mild, no toner needed, and also removes eye-makeup–no stinging. It is on the pricey side but a little goes a long way. QVC sells it by the quart for just a bit more than the pint size. A quart would last a year or more. Or you can go to philosophy.com or skinstore.com.

👍 I love L’Occitane! I am currently using their honey almond soap which is just lovely. I’ll have to try the hair products you mention!

Just wondering what the ladies on the forum use for skin care?

We’re tring to cut back on expenses…and most of what I’ve tried doesn’t seem to really work anyway…so, I’m wondering what’s out there for skin care that actually works?

And is any of it not ridiculously expensive?

I tried using a more reputable line (Clinique). It’s fine, but doesn’t really seem that different to me than an off the shelf product (Oil of Olay, Nutrogena, etc.).

Advice? Suggestions?

Thanks!! 😃
Coconut oil! Extra virgin, unrefined coconut oil. Just rub a little on your skin. The lauric acid is what cleanses and it is also antibacterial and antifungal. I just started putting it on my eczema b/c it’s supposed to heal it. Read the book if you can, Eat Fat, Lose Fat. You may initially see a bit of red spots, but this will go away; it is actually a sign of cleansing and detxinfying your skin. You can buy skin products that have coconut oil listed as an ingredient, but better to take it by itself. Also, increase the amount of saturated fat in your diet. Butter, fatty meats, coconut oil, whole milk, eggs, etc, all play a part in making your skin healthy and hair glorious and shiny.
