Yes, Genius! Now I have to make sure my wife never reads this…😃
Don’t worry, I think the tactic works for husbands, too!
The reason he will agree to a Lutheran baptism is because and I quote “It’s protestant and I am a protestant.” 🤷 Also I converted from the Lutheran church to the Catholic church. At this point I feel like I am fighting a losing battle
But he isn’t Protestant. If he’s not practicing a faith he isn’t really anything. Which is why this is so silly. If he isn’t getting off his tushie and attending services regularly as well as doing other things to actually practice his faith then why does he care?

Maybe I am the Wicked Witch of the Midwest, but I’d tell him that I understand he has Protestant leanings, but that I am catholic. I’d add that the children are equally mine and, again, since I am the one seriously practicing my faith I should be the one to handle religious instruction and initiation rites. I think I’d feel differently if he were practicing a faith, but he’s not.

Hello again, sorry it has taken me awhile to respond back but I have been sick lately. I have decided to let the baptism issue drop for now, as it seems trivial compared to the new problem I am now facing. Thank you all for your help and advice. I just ask that you keep me in your prayers so I can get through this new problem.

Oh my! I hope everything is going to be ok. And you will be in my prayers! But one correction. Baptism is not trivial compared to anything at all. Truly, it is the most important thing for salvation!

I very much understand that Hoosier Daddy, but when I am facing the possible end of my marriage that has yet to make it to the 1 year mark, it feels very trivial right now

I understand as well. And I will offer prayer for you and your marriage. Hang in there!

Thank you I am trying. I am hoping that this is just one of the phases he goes through when he feels overwhelmed and that things are too hard.

Actually the Non Catholic is only to be made aware of the Catholic partners’s responsibilities to do all they can to raise future child in the church. I am the non-catholic and my wife is catholic, all be it non-practicing. In signing the church documents with the priest before our wedding I was only to witness her signing this understanding. This leaves me, or any non-catholic partner able to also defend whatever faith or belief I/they have in bringing up their children. In my case there has been no issues and we both have agreed on how we raise our children!
I check with the pastor and he said that they must sign papers not to interfere. 🤷

I wonder if the requirement vary from diocese to diocese.
