I was out practicing bowling today and right around my third game, I started to get angry and frustrated. My score was dropping, I was barely missing spares, getting a few splits, etc. I tried changing things, hoping that maybe that would fix it, but it seemed like it made things worse. I tried to go back to what I was doing before, but it really didn’t help much. This is obviously not about my bowling though. I am concerned because it felt like I couldn’t get a grip on my anger. It wasn’t like I was throwing chairs, or anything like that, just that I became very rude and was being disrespectful to my mom and my sister. I would also, sit down in the chair harder than normal, I stomped the floor once and used a foul word once.

I tried to control it because I knew it was wrong to act like that. But everything that happened just seemed aggravate me even more, which made me think about how anger was a sin and that lead to me getting even more angry and frustrated. I am worried about what kind of sin I committed.

Should I go to confession for this?

Like Peter we fall many times, but like Peter, too, we learn from our mistakes and get back up. Each day is an opportunity for us to grow in sanctity. As St Paul said to the Philippians, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You can overcome.

To clear your conscience, it is better to go confession. God bless. 🙂

Yes. It was clearly not righteous anger, but was likely driven by pride. Confess it and ask for spiritual guidance. When in doubt, confess.

Somebody once posted on here that we should go to Confession seeking healing first, then forgiveness. So yes, go to Confession and be healed by the power of Christ! 🙂

Bowling gets you whipped up like this? To not honor your mother and family?
Acting like a

Hey, I have some unwelcome advice for you.

It is called growing up.

Do it. Now. Stop hiding behind some kind of force to prevent you from doing it.

First of all, I want to thank you for your honesty in sharing your experience over what went down while you were bowling. From the sound of it–I think you were dealing with an issue of anger that led to a meltdown. And the fact that you think you might need to go to confession tells me that underneath it all, you realize that what you did was out of line.

You definitely did NOT commit a mortal sin, but you certainly need to repent to the Lord (tell Him you’re sorry) as soon as you commit an offense against Him. That way, you’ll have made yourself right with the Lord until the next time you can go to confession.

Anger, or any kind of sin, begins in our head. It’s our thoughts or thinking on things that gets the ball rolling in that direction. If you had an attitude for instance that you were just going to play for fun (for sport), it’s possible that even when your game went south, you would still be cool about it (because you had told yourself it was just a game). It’s true that most people don’t realize that everytime we react to something, like get upset or say something we regret, it begins in the thought process.

I don’t know what’s going on in your head but your regret over your actions tells me you’re headed in the right direction. A lot of our behaviors are learned or become habits over a period of time but we CAN CHANGE if we want to. But we can’t do it on your own because we’re human (prone to sin). I suggest you call upon the Holy Spirit the next time this happens (Holy Spirit, please help me to keep my cool) and repent to the Father (I’m sorry God I guess I blew it again) right away. When you get God involved with your anger issue or any issue for that matter, you’ll start to see that you’re not alone and that God really wants to bless you instead.

I call blessings upon you and healing in your life,

God Bless
