Need refutations for attacks on the Deity of Christ

The problem showing them Hebrews 1 is, that they mistranslated verse 8: From “O God” to “God is your throne”, changing also Psalm 45:6 and backing that up with quotes from scholars.

As for Jn 10:30, they go and say “well Jesus said we should be one just like them. That doesn’t mean of one nature, does it? It means purpose!”

I Don’t think they are lost. JWs are dangerously mislead, but can certainly see the light, if it shines at them brightly enough.

No, I’m not a mole 😉 the reason I look into their stuff is I have a good friend of mine, who is a JW and is constantly attacking the Church. I want to help him see where they are wrong, plant the seeds for the Holy Spirit to grow, if you wish.

I agree with all you said, my intention here is to have counter-arguments, refutations and better insight into our belief.]
…sorry for the query… :o:o:o

I’ve had the experience of their visits (personal and other people known to me) and I’ve notice that they use that come-hither-my-friend-lets-share-Scriptures empty humility only to unleash their theology on the least expectant… so noticing how well-versed you were I wanted to remove all doubts!

…I understand how one or two issues may give rise to misunderstanding–specially when coupled with “scholars” imput… but when one contends with the numerous passages that demonstrate that Christ is God and that the Holy Spirit is God… only by dancing around the Truth can anyone ascertain a theology that denies the Holy Trinity:
Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (St. Matthew 28:19)
…and:
5 Though there are so-called gods, in the heavens or on earth – and there are plenty of gods and plenty of lords-6 yet for us there is only one God, the Father from whom all things come and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come and through whom we exist. (1 Corinthians 8:5-6)
4 There are many different gifts, but it is always the same Spirit; 5 there are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord. 6 There are many different forms of activity, but in everybody it is the same God who is at work in them all. (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)
…while I am not saying that anyone is beyond Salvation… it is clear from Scriptures that if man denies God it is man himself who is the cause of his own demise.

Since no one can be Saved apart from Christ, I find it very difficult that those who preach Salvation based on a human or an angel will actually be the receptors of Christ’s Redemption! Even so, during my personal prayer, I pray that the Holy Spirit enlighten all to the Truth of Christ so that all may be Saved!

I am not siding with Jehovah’s Witnesses! What makes you think that?
…I think that I’ve been linking your responses to your familiarity with their doctrine… perhaps I read too much into your responses–ie:
They say they “restored” the name because the early Christians “took it away”.
The tone I got from this is that you may be accepting them at their word or might be putting forth an argument for them (there were some episodes with at least one person pretending to be seeking knowledge but he/she was simply bouncing doctrinal teachings either with or as another person).

Perhaps by posting their possition without including your personal understanding had helped me draw the wrong conclusion…

I truly apologize! :imsorry::imsorry::imsorry:

I wonder how they’re going to wiggle their way out of this one.

Dear community,

Here I go again about the Jehovah’s Witnesses. I have their book “Reasoning from the Scriptures” in German, and they address some arguments for the Deity of Christ in them, especially those concerning Titles of God applied to Christ. I need some refutations on these, as they are getting me quite confused and also as they will come up in discussions with a friend of mine (JW).

For any of you who have the book in digital or print, I’ll be translating the German version, so the wording may be different in the original English.

I know this is a lot of text, but maybe the points can be grouped. I hope somebody can show either their error or explain the Trinitarian position. Thank you in advance.
Catholics and Jehovah witnesses alike both believe God is a God of justice therefore Jesus died for our sake for the sins of humanity.

There’s a flaw in their theology…If Jesus were St Michael the archangel that would mean he would be a created finite being. The finite sacrifice he offered up would have been sufficient because God the infinite being requires infinite reparation for our sins. The sacrifice of St Michael would not be sufficient. only an infinite reparation would suffice the justice demanded by God for our sins. Only God is infinite, therefore Jesus is God.

God bless,

…the problem is that they made up their own theocracy… where not God but their leaders determine Who God Is and How His Revelations and Salvific Plan take effect… buttom line: Christ is not God and there’s no Holy Trinity–their whole theology then must reflect their obstinate belief!

I’m not a scholar, but when I come across a passage that states that Christ is God or that demonstrates that Christ is God I, dumb as I am, accept the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit:
26 Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. 27 Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving any more but believe.’ 28 Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ 29 Jesus said to him: You believe because you can see me. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. (St. John 20:26-29)

16 Meanwhile the eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. 17 When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. (St. Matthew 28:16-17)
…the Apostles acknowledged that Jesus is God and freely confessed with their mouths and with their actions: “My Lord, and my God!”

Sorry I meant to write “insufficent” in that sentence not sufficent.

I have a very good friend who is a JW, and it is fruitless to argue any theological translation. Why not? Because anyone can come up with any translation of any Bible. The real question is always authority, and that is what must addressed before anything else.
