There is absolutely nothing in this letter that isn’t pretty basic Catholic doctrine.

We already have that in the form of the Catechism. If Joe Bloggs is confused, he can have it explained by the many Bishops that are faithfully in sync with Catholic teaching and its pastoral application or read the guidelines the various Conferences have compiled for their local parishes. There is no need whatsoever for anyone to think they need to set themselves up as alternative Magisterium.

Lets not pretend this is not just another attempt by Burke to undermine Pope Francis authority and claim himself as the alternate ‘papal’ authority.
I’m shocked that a lady of your caliber would even post such a remark against two of the finest Catholic prelates God in His Mercy has given the Church.

In the name of Our Lady of Sorrows, please retract your remark against ++Burke and +Schneider.

That’s interesting they say it was signed on Pentecost Monday. The Octave of Pentecost has been gone since 1969.
I’m not going to complain though. I much would rather call it Pentecost Monday than whatever they call it now.

The Church teaches exactly what she always had. If you have questions, go to the catechism.
The last thing the Church needs is an “alternate Magisterium” powered by rich, white, conservative, Catholics in the US who see +Burke as some type of savior.

I could never support the offensive of Cdl Burke and AB Schneider against Pope Francis. I’ve spent 57 years (my whole life) practising Catholicism to the letter and in spirit as faithfully as I can. I’m not abandoning my Church now. If I don’t have my Church I have nothing.

Bishops have a duty to preach the truth. These bishops did just that. There is nothing in the letter but basic Catholic doctrine.

++Burke took an oath to defend the Faith even to the point of martyrdom when he became a Cardinal. That’s why Cardinals wear red (and why the pope would wear red shoes until Pope Francis was elected; BXVI still wears them).

+Schneider, like ++Burke, is also obligated to defend the Faith.

If they’re “traitors”, then St. Athanasius, St. Basil the Great and other faithful Catholic prelates during the Arian crisis were “traitors” to Pope Liberius (who was the first pope not to be canonized upon his death).

Re your last sentence: If we don’t have the Faith and sanctifying grace, we don’t have nothing.

How is this not animosity toward clergy? I get a reprimand when I criticize the USCCB, but when someone else attacks Cardinal Burke and other traditional bishops as “trying to undermine Our Most Holy, Venerable and Blameless Pope St. Francis the Great”, nothing happens.

Unfortunately there has been a history on these fora of it being more or less acceptable to denounce Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider (and a few others now and again) as “traitors” (to quote someone above).

I support this declaration. It is a summary of the truths of the Catholic faith which many have chosen to forget and ignore. The authors noted it was not intended as a slight against the Pope but in order to assist him and the faithful. Few people can rightly question the integrity and faith of Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider or their love of the Church.

I thought we had a catechism tö take care of this.
You are assuming that the goal of the document is to set forth certain precepts of the faith. I do not think that is the goal of this document.

Good to see that even the clergy are shocked by Cardinal Burkes bizarre vendettas and are willing to speak out for the sake of the faithful. Msg Barr writes this.

Nothing in the letter that isn’t basic Catholic doctrine. To the degree one is uncomfortable with the statement of some of those doctrines…well that’s not the fault of the writers of the letter.

As for dismissing bishops because they’re from Kazakhstan…that doesn’t even merit a reply.

Why should Catholics around the world reject their own Bishops and Cardinals in favour of this crowd?

I see the statement on Jews as in conflict with Church teaching in Nostra Aetate.
