There is no intention on a debate regarding encyclicals, dogma, councils, and Magisterium and how they may relate to the new-age craze. If this interests you then start a thread.

Glad we know it can contribute to those maladies. Can high blood pressure contribute to cancer? Can high blood pressure effect the immune system? Can a weak immune system leave one more open to cancer?

Do you know the cause of cancer? What is it?

I can’t speak for all “New Age” therapies, but some do work. Reiki for instance defintely has provided benefits to folks. My wife is a R.N., former massage therapist, and a current Reiki Master. Her proof that it works has come from her old clients. Many nurses incorporate it into their work and it is taught at some nursing schools. The problem is that many folks are close minded and if something doesn’t fall into a person’s definition of normal, then it must be “hooey”.

From what I understand about practices such as Reiki, even if they work as people claim they do, and as your wife has apparently witnessed, it doesn’t mean tha it is spiritually good. From what I have read, it us a manipulation of spiritual energy. The danger lies in the fact that it is an attempt to manipulate the spiritual world without God. Similar in nature to using a medium to communitcate with the spiritual world, rather than depending on God’s Will. Similar to Eve seeking knowlege without following God’s will, she wanted to do it on her own. I believe there are Mediums and psychics, I believe that an Ouija board works, for instance. That doesn’t mean it’s nececarilly good for the soul.

If a practice heals the body, what good is it if it hurts the soul, if it takes us further away from God by trying to manipulate teh physical or spiritual world outside His Will.

So the discernment should be not whether it works, but “does it take me further away or closer in my relationship with God.” I can’t really answer that for anyone else, but I don’t want to eat the apple. 😃

I think Reikki considers the energy it deals with to be very natural. There are lots of natural things we don’t know about. Physicists are looking long and hard for Dark Energy.

I checked it out. We could play dueling websites all day. If Reiki provides relief to the ill and the practitioner’s thoughts and motives are pure, IMO, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
