Being on the receiving end for Bishop Baker, it is sure nice to read that he will be missed at his current station. Bishop Foley has been handling the administrative duties of the diocese even though he was retired. It’s nice that we finally have someone full-time now.

As for new bishops, our pastor, in jest, has stated that a young priest that recently left as our chaplain to the high school to go to Bham in some canon law capacity, is going to be a bishop one day. So, be on the lookout for the future Bishop Bazzell. I hope Fr. Mike is correct. Fr. Bazzell is great.
Fr. Bazzell is phenomenal!!! 👍 I cannot say enough good things about him! “Bishop Bazzell” would be AWESOME!!!

I’m actually in the “other” AL diocese, but am so excited for B’ham. I know you guys have been waiting a LONG time, and we are currently waiting ourselves! Just the little bit I have heard and seen about Bishop Baker gives me great hope for B’ham and even for us in the Archdiocese of Mobile. :signofcross:

Catholicrocks,
I am in the Archdiocese of Mobile as well. I am praying daily for our new Archbishop. With B16 at the helm things are starting to look up!

:gopray:
I rejoice for Bishop Baker and for Birmingham and for EWTN; but please PRAY for Charleston, SC, now bereft of her very holy and gracious bishop.
I hope and pray our next Bishop will be as strong and faithful as Bishop Baker was. I feel that we now have such a void.

We do have a void. it’s like suddenly waking up fatherless. BUT God is our Father and we have our blessed Mother, whose feast is today. They and their son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will send us someone who will be best for us. PRAY. . for those who now meet to decide who will be our interim once Bishop Baker takes his full responsibilities in Birmingham and for our Holy Father who will ultimately decide on who our new bishop will be. . . and pray for Bishop Baker as he enters into headship of his new family in Birmingham. PRAY and know that our Heavenly Father will hold Charleston in his hand, just as He did when Bishop Baker was first appointed here in 1999.:gopray2:

It sounds like we in Bham have recieved a real Blessing from what y’all have said. I’m sorry for your loss Charleston.

You have. The Diocese will go on, the Body of Christ is forever! I think Mother Angelica will love Bishop Baker.👍
Well…what need have we of further witnesses if Mother Angelica herself would like him…he must be just the best little bishop ever…🤷

Best ever? Doubtful. Too much competition. Good? Definitely. Little? Definitely not. He’s well over 6’ and a very big man, not fat, just big.

All I can say is that I hope by this time next year I will be watching a Solemn High Mass of the Assumption on EWTN.😃

Or at least an *ad orientem *ordinary form of the Mass…

Anyone else think that EVENTUALLY we’re going to need to start ordaining a new bishop or two in this country…it seems like the majority of the vacancies the last couple of years are going to current bishops…just creating an endless cycle of vacancies.
The Raleigh diocese just got a new bishop about a year ago. He’s doing a swell job too.

He was an auxilary in philly…so at least it didn’t leave an actual diocese bishop-less. Although last I checked Philly didn’t get a new Auxillary yet.

I wonder if Benedict has something really big planned…

Perhaps, a sudden wave of dozens of young, extremely devout, orthodox bishops that will wash away permanently the modernist poison that has plagued the Church for many decades…😃

VIVA LA RATZINGER REVOLUTION!!!

Now that would be awesome… and worth praying for !!!👍

That is happening. New Bishop Fiores in Detroit for example. He is definitely a keeper.

And it won’t be long (few years maybe) before Fr Riccardo is elevated.

It would be nice to have a real bishop in Lansing next. Bishop Mengeling tells all that he is retired and that is that… replacement or not.

.
May I trade you my Bishop for yours? We have Bishop John McCormack here in NH, and he is the major reason why we have a VERY serious shortage of Priests in this Diocese!

Details are not necessary here. Just take my word for this.

So, if you’d like to trade Bishops…I’m game!

It’s amazing that the Archdiocese of Mobile does not have a shortage. Archbishop Oscar Lipscomb is an amazing man, and we could use more just like him. (And yes, I admit to a bit of bias here. I’ve known Archbishop Lipscomb for a few years, and with his retirement I can assure you that a giant has stepped down.)

Your Archbishop, Oscar Lipscomb, was truly a wonderful man. He interviewed me just 3 years ago, and determined that I have a calling to the Priesthood. Now, it’s just a matter of time, since my own Bishop has a weird rule that requires anyone who has had an annulment to wait 3 YEARS before being eligible for Seminary. (That might be good for men in their 20s or 30s, but NOT in their mid-late 50s!)

Archbishop Lipscomb is also a wonderful speaker, as I learned at the 2004 Supreme Convention of the Knights of Columbus, held in Dallas, TX. He was able to make his points, without taking all day to do so. He is truly an admirable Bishop.

Ask and you will receive 👍 :

wdtprs.com/blog/2007/08/ewtn-live-tridentine-mass-on-14-september/

“For the first time in its 26 year history, Mother Angelica’s Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) will be broadcasting a live Solemn High Mass at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama on September 14, 2007 at 8:00AM EST. EWTN has asked for the assistance of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, an international Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, to help celebrate this “extraordinary” form.”

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

…And that is before Bishop Baker is even installed (Oct 2nd - Feast of the Guardian Angels).

BTW, I have heard that Bishop Baker is a Secular Franciscan…I hope this means a wonderful Franciscan synergy across the diocese. Deo Gratias
