NEW explanation for why God killed babies in the OT (Heresy?)

Oh dear, the Divine Command theory raises it ugly head.
Like limbo that’s been slowly transferring to the back burner as Nat Law theory grows stronger, the Magna Carta and the demise of Aristocracy and Kings and privilege.

Nobody is exempt from their own law, God is not exempt from Nat Law.
To do so would contradict His own Eternal Law.
Not a perfect justification but better than where you are going.
. It is God’s prerogative to kill as He sees fit.
And this is the other problem. Fair enough if God does the killing by famine disease etc.
What gets me going is when He asks fellow humans (so we are told) to do his dirty work.

They don’t have the purity of heart needed to do so without the old eye for eye entropy kicking in and the whole world is fighting … all because this god allegedly told some special person or nation to genocide another race.

This definition of natural law assumes that people know what is morally right and wrong based on the spirit of G-d within them EVEN if they do not believe in G-d or have studied His teachings.
That’s not my version of NL.
Nor is it really mainstream Catholic!

Have you considered WHO I seek to obey?
Of course. That’s exactly what I have been doing all along.
I don’t want to know your god, I don’t like him.

And you are a scary fellow Catholic to be willing to let someone in authority treat you like that.

So you accept it is possible that it could still be in your god’s mind to reintroduce child sacrifice…say he speaks to Pope Francis telling him the Masons (or your favourite satanic cult) were actually on to something and that he should get it going again…slowly, maybe with the higher orders of Opus Dei. They seem to obey Authority without questioning too much.

Please tell me that your god cannot change his mind on this and repent of his earlier advice.

If not I eagerly await whatever interesting theological triple backwards somersault you might come back with. Getting the popcorn now.

I agree wholeheartedly.

There is only one God. He is the same who tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice Isaac and send his other son Ishmael into the wilderness. As I have stated, His ways are not our ways.

You have a nice imagination. Use it to come up with facts to support your argument instead of using ad hominems.

That’s why God in the OT and the NT seem so different. It’s not God that’s changing. God stays the same. What changes is the value that each human being has. Before they were worthless. Now they are priceless.
They were priceless before-and we believe some of the OT patriarchs are in heaven in fact. More importantly, we don’t even know the fate of those babies. This life is worthless, relatively speaking, or at least it’s not the final goal, while the next life is the gem-and the babies and others slain in the OT may well be there for all we know.

No, not “walk in lock-step with them.” But knowing what is required of us by G-d at least offers a possibility that we will engage in moral behavior according to the divine (not natural) law. And even if and when we choose not to, we at least are aware of our shortcomings in missing the mark, and thus may in the future take measures to rectify them.

In other words you do not rule out the possibility that your god could repent and have Catholics restart human sacrifice as of old?

And you would still desire to follow these ways even though it is culturally distasteful to you…because morality is doing whatever our supreme authority wants and there is no objective morality that even God, by definition of the word God, must respect?

As I say, many of your fellow Catholics worship a different God from you. I myself cannot worship your god. He is too much like the deceitful and changable tyrants of the earth…caring and wise though they pretend.

Actually use Scripture and Tradition to support your arguments instead of ad hominems.

My friend the point is a mature person would first test “the ways” to see if they are of God, of the Devil, or simply too much fasting and sleep deprivation causing very mystical and authoritative voices in my head. Especially if I am being asked to kill blacks, family members or Christians.

Maybe not for you.
What I think, is that when the facts stack against you, you resort to character assassination.

I did, you agreed that Scripture demonstrates your god can repent at any time of his past decision and change his mind. You further stated that we are not meant to understand your god’s ways but just obey. His ways are not our ways afterall.

There are no ad hominems - unless you are sensitive to being embarrassed by the logical conclusions that your above principles lead to. Nobody here considers demonstrating an argument failure to be an ad hominem.

Your turn…

Where is the ad hominem?
This is a logical conclusion of your stated position isn’t it?

No facts are “stacking” against me???
I am simply using your alleged basics.

My “fact” is that the Church does not require us to believe every single word as historically accurate, especially in the OT. I don’t need to accept God ever commanded Abraham to slay his son.

Are you saying the Church does not accept my view?

So, the communion of saints is not a body of rational creatures. Most of them have no sensitive powers. How would you and Guido Rostrum resolve that consequence of your all so clever and jolly omission?
Surely dead men tell no tales. But the communion of saints intercedes for us… apparently without rational intellect. Sure I will learn plenty about Aquinas through your analysis.

How certain are you Sarah was not informed? She followed him about the desert for years after leaving something a bit more than a meager living.

Too rigid understanding of the father in faith. Which teaching authority underpins your voodoo theories on Scripture?

Totalitarianism of the Creator. Now there is a real undergirding to understanding God.

God taught Abraham who has authority over life and death. Abraham misunderstood some part of what God intended but God is faithful. This image of Isaac’s sacrifice teaches us that our children belong first to God. So, resorting back to child sacrifice would require a horrifically bad misinterpretation under the guidance of The Holy Spirit. For this to happen would be for God to allow Jacob to have completed his thrust of the knife. Abraham is our father in faith. Show some faith and fear of God.
