Perhaps the powers -that -be can be persuaded to turn off the wiki-function,
As far as I understand it, it is off by default. The only way a post would become a “wiki post” is if the poster deliberately chooses to make it so. My guess is that this will happen very infrequently and would be made clear in the OP (as it was here).

Plus, it is a feature only available to “Regular” members. Looking at the list of “regular members”, so far, @Roseeurekacross is the only non-CAF/Discourse/autobot staff person to reach that level. So she would be the only one to be able to do this at this point in time.

Was there a button that you clicked to make that happen, Rose? Is it available for every post or just the first post when you start a thread?

Thankyou Trishie. I am thinking, there must be some good use for it…or not

So how does the wiki posting work? It looks like right now you are the only non staff person with this power.

Also, has the power gone to your head yet? When do you expect it to do so? 😉

I suppose if one were making a list…you could enable a thread to be a wiki topic.

But beyond that, I wouldn’t trust anyone.
Nope, no way. nu-uh.

It does seem to be of limited utility here. I think it’s good that at least there is some accountability and transparency in that you can see who made what edits when you click on the icon at the top of the post.

Maybe a wiki thread for the titles of Mary. 🤔

Perhaps a curated list of helpful websites for Catholics. Because it would be a wiki, it could be edited when some of the websites go out of business or change locations. Like laudate app and a CCC search or usccb.org, etc.

Yeah, but I wouldn’t think since out threads only last 14 days that this would be terribly helpful. So far, I’ve not been able to locate anything with the search function. If I know a poster’s name I can locate a recent thread by looking at their activity.

I haven’t been very good at searching, either. I have bookmarked stuff I think I need to find again. By naming each wiki thread with the word “wiki” in the title would help with the searching, but that doesn’t solve the 14 day thing for a new user. It would have to be something worth a sticky thread.

Ah, yes a list of Catholic websites or apps would be something where a wiki could be handy. I’d probably start with the apps as that would be a more manageable list and less likely to create conflict.

But Clare’s point about the 14 day window is the major roadblock. A wiki topic for Catholic apps is not exactly something that people are going to be posting on every couple of days for years on end. And yet, for the wiki list to be meaningful, you would need the ability to edit it for years to come.

On another note, I notice that this topic says “This topic will automatically close in 12 days” rather than “This topic will close 14 days after the last reply.” Is that accurate? Why would this thread close automatically 14 days after being created regardless of when the last post is? It seems that this is true of all the topics in the #casual-discussion category. 🤔

I figured this is CAF’s attempt to close out those thread like before, but without needing human intervention. Remember how they closed fun threads after 1000 replies or there about? Then Mudgies or whomever got to make an exciting new destination thread?

I’ve noticed it on all the casual threads. And yes, the best use of the wiki does make a conundrum, with it closing.

I also think that people made such a FUSS about the prayer intention threads, that this closed after 14 days option is a result of that.
I mean, if you’re not praying, why do you care? Personally, I don’t post over and over in prayer threads. I just say I’m praying and then I DO.
Ok, enough Off-topic. Sorry. 🤭

🐁:mouse2:I won’t tell anyone you’re off topic, see I’m quiet as a 🐁:mouse2:I just pray whenever the prayer thread pops back up, but I don’t post again either.

You know, I’m going to jump on in here and add my “two cents” to that, because I agree with you and I think that you’re correct in you’re thinking in how that time limit came about…

I didn’t understand that either, in “why” people were getting upset about the prayer intentions…

I normally do like you do, and just pray…

Anyway…

I had been thinking the exact same thing as you, so I just wanted to add my thoughts to yours…

Sometimes it’s nice to know that we’re not alone in what we’re thinking…🙂

God bless you! ❤️

There is a button joe, it’s a spanner in the icons that appear next to the edit and rubbish bin icon.

I wonder if it is tme limited. I can move threads into different categories, and edit titles. If I move this thread to another category, it will stay open until 14 days after last post, I think. Let’s try it. I will move this to site discussion. If that works, I will open a titles of Mary in Spirituality?

Nope still closing in 12 days. Will try a Titles of Mary in Spirituality.

One feature of being a reg is I can hide spam from new members. So all those links etc and the vile stuff goes. I have only come across one really vile post , a troll post, sexually explicit.

This is wiki .

😱 I’ve never come across a post like that before. It’s a good thing you caught it.

In looking at your stats on the list of users, you have given quite a few more likes than anyone else. ❤️ In all the other categories, there are other posters that are in the same vicinity or higher. So I wonder if that is the main thing other posters are missing. You’re the only one with over 1000 likes given at 1.4K. With ~560 likes this past week, it seems about right that you would have hit the 1000 likes given mark about 5 days ago, which is when you graduated to the next trust level.

Watch @Trishie and see what happens when she gets to 1000 likes given. If she becomes a Regular member at that point, then I think that will be a pretty good indication that 1000 likes given is the number to get to.

Not that this is the only factor. I’m sure that the other columns contribute as well. For most of us who have been around a while, though, the likes are the main new bar that we haven’t had a chance to clear yet.

Here is another question.

What is spam in regard to this forum?
