What is spam in regard to this forum?
When I think of spam, I generally think of people trying to sell things, either directly or by getting clicks for ad revenue.

I think in the CAF context, topics created for the purpose of proselytism and/or trolling would also qualify. For example, I recall seeing a few threads last week started by new posters claiming to be Catholic, but then trotting out old, tired anti-Catholic accusations and then not even bothering to stay for discussion. To me, that denotes someone who (1) isnā€™t being truthful with who they are, and (2) isnā€™t interested in discussion. That seems spam-like to me.

Watch @Trishie and see what happens when she gets to 1000 likes given. If she becomes a Regular member at that point, then I think that will be a pretty good indication that 1000 likes given is the number to get to.
Pressure! ā€¦am I supposed to take one for the team?!

Itā€™s not stated anywhere. and a little strange really, it would make more sense to me if Likes received had a function as some sort of indication that members werenā€™t doing anything too wrong.

I did find though, at a discourse platform site, that Regular members can quickly be returned to Member status if they fail to post on a regular basis, though a couple of weeks period of grace is permittedā€¦thus Regular status isnā€™t a stable level for many users to attain, unless CAF has designed things differently.

Regular members can therefore lose their super-powers by being unavailable because of personal reasons, illness, travel. The promoted, demoted, promoted cycle.
Being a member, as many of us are, is at least a stable status.

I think it was a ā€œjealousyā€ of sorts that one prolific poster had well over 100,000 postsā€¦and people accused him of not really praying. Just cutting and pasting.
But he was praying. People felt like his posting daily kept their prayer intention threads from rising to the top of the pile and got buried. Especially those who were not friends with some of the prayer warriors.
Was a very ugly little incident.
Sad.

No pressure. šŸ˜

It just has me curious. It does make some sense that someone might lose those privileges if they become less active. I guess we will see how that plays out here at CAF.

You may be next in line, though. šŸ˜‰

Thanks for the explanationā€¦

You refreshed my memory more on that situation.

I remember that more clearly nowā€¦

Yeahā€¦

We donā€™t know whatā€™s in someoneā€™s heart when they do pray and how they prayā€¦

Iā€™ll copy and paste a prayer sometimes to save time because I have trouble with my hands and theyā€™ll start to get tired from typing. However, that doesnā€™t mean that I donā€™t pray it.

Anyway, I donā€™t want to go Off-Topic, but I appreciate your response. Thanks! šŸ™‚

There was another very wonderful person who tried to pray for absolutely everyone for as long as it seemed their need existed, but who was devastated by the accusations and withdrew from the forums at that time ā€¦ a person of great generosity in personal life and in the forums. Prays now from outside the forums. Remains a dear friend.

Hope and prayer that our ā€˜newā€™ CAF with its levels and capabilities, will be healthy for all sincere people who post here, from Basic to Leader. and across the sub-forums.
In 2008 I came, desperate for prayer for a dear son. I stayed mostly to try to be of assistance, like so many of us have.

Sometimes it seems we are the Lordā€™s instruments in some little proven way, but for the most part we try, the best we can manageā€¦ to pray for those needing prayer, to answer questions, to challenge erroneous opinion, and occasionally give a healthy dose of practical reality, or to encourage and support others.

Rose has become the trailblazer for new ways to assist in keeping the forum healthy as she tests her new ā€˜powersā€™.

It is very sad to hear that your friend experienced this. I am glad that this new platform is different, I hope your friend returns back.

It is weird, it doesnā€™t make sense that others can only edit your posts. Are you sure you have fiddled with something in your preferences?

One would expect that others at a lower level could be edited by those at higher level - not the other way round.

I donā€™t like the idea of advancing because of giving or getting likes. Too much pressureā€¦lol.šŸ˜œ

Those of us who post from phones are limited anyway even if we manage to become regular members. The wiki is interesting, but scary too. Itā€™s a good thing the changes can be tracked.

This becoming a Regularā€¦ Weā€™re now asking how we get thereā€¦so does this become a pressure? Will it take on some tinge of competitiveness?Distracting us? Maybe that was sometimes there in CAF Mk 1? But there was a natural progression (simply time and post numbers) that we vaguely acknowledgedā€¦and then what? I was a Forum Elder which didnā€™t actually mean a whole lot. The only responsibility it gave was the one that all members have anyway, to be good witnesses of Catholic community.

One begins posting likes for a variety of reasons, wanting to help othersā€™ advance from basic so they have more functions , wanting to thank someone, wanting to acknowledge someoneā€™s kindness and beauty, wanting to give back, wanting to support a good or inspiring post, a post that says all we could wish to say, but it really wasnā€™t such a bad thing to post the occasional ā€œAgreed!ā€ "Amen!, ā€œGreat post!ā€ or to post a ā€œthank youā€ (?)

May God bless us and guide us all, members and administrators, in what we chose to do and to say,
and may bless this forums, in all its ways.

Yes Trishie, for me to like a post it will just be because a post has influenced me in a postive way, or because it conveys something in words that I couldnā€™t say as nicely.

Such as yours here.

Itā€™s a new ā€œpowerā€ that comes with being a Regular member. But we cannot edit all her posts. At least I donā€™t think so. I think she has to deliberately activate it for a particular post.

Now I notice, though, that the OP no longer has the Edit button for the wikipost. Did you turn that off, @Roseeurekacross, or did it time out? Is there only so long that the wiki remains open? Can you turn it back on for the OP?

If itā€™s only remains active for a limited time, that would seem to limit itā€™s usefulness even further.

The wiki spanner is gone on the first few posts.
It must time out or something. Good observation Joe. I didnā€™t even look

The wiki is still active on the lower posts. I will wiki this one too.

Trinity wiki is a one way street, we can only wiki our own posts. I can edit titles though.

I like posts for a few reasons.

I like using my likes up too, daily. Sometimes itā€™s a thanks, an acknowledgement, a hug, a hey your here, a poignant post. I find posts I can concur with , by people I have been not seeing eye to eye , are a good exercise to like. Charity.

I think, on reading the reg requirements, maybe itā€™s amount of posts read and respond to across different categories? Rather then likes?

Itā€™s nice to investigate different features with you guys.

Itā€™s also an exercise in restraint, being able to do spam flags , and not, when the topic of Holy Father Pope Francis comes up, or Our Lady. O r the perennial which is better type threads. Itā€™s a growing experience.
