You could be right, Rose.
Your becoming our first Regular most logically arises from the wide range of threads you’ve read and applied yourself to. It makes more sense.

You’ve read considerably more threads across the forums than any of us. This attention to so much of what has been posted in all the forums gives you a strong position to be, effectively, a forum moderator, along with the quality of both your longer and shorter posts.

I’m reassured! It didn’t seem right that ‘likes’ should have a significant role other than to say people see you as trustworthy, but that would be likes received rather than given, wouldn’t it. 💐🌷🌺

Gotta like the flowers 👌🕊️🐨.

Ps Prayers for Cardinal Pell’s case today. He is back in court. 🙏
And it’s a first Friday.

I didn’t do anything special, just clicked on the ones I thought were nice.

Rose, perhaps you need to scroll down to see the larger number of options available?

oooo that’s cool!
It’s the airplane (travel) section.

It also has basically ALL the flags of the world, too. 🇺🇸 :canada: North American…

To the flag of the Country the Pope is from
:venezuela:

So why do I have the ‘edit’ option on only your post and no one else?

Because she’s the one who started the thread and enabled the wiki option.

I don’t know if you are aware, but there are 4 “trust levels” in the new CAF:
  1. Basic
  2. Member
  3. Regular
  4. Leader
Everyone starts off at level 1. All you have to do is post some, read some, share and receive a few likes, and you will graduate to level 2. After you do this even more, you go to level 3. And after you do it a lot, you (at least theoretically) move up to level 4. Every new trust level brings with it more options. Trust level 3 brings with it the option to make one of your posts a “wiki post” that anyone can edit.

Right now, there are 205,937 people at level one, 400 people at level two, 9 people at level three, and 8 people at level four.

So far, @Roseeurekacross is the only person who has made it beyond level 2. The other 8 people at level 3 (who are also all at level 4) consist of the site admin, moderator, Discourse staff, Discobot (the friendly bot poster) and a few users who I can only figure are staff or bots as they are freshly created accounts with minimal activity that immediately got put at level 4.

So that’s why Rose’s post is the only one you see that for. The CAF staff and Discourse staff aren’t likely to come into the trenches and explore these new features with us. I imagine having the admin or moderator post something that anyone can edit would be like posting a huge “Troll Me” sign on their back. 😜

I just noticed that the Regular (trust level 3) badge has a link to the Discourse forum explaining the parameters for earning that level:

In particular:
This is time and activity based, unlike the previous levels. In the last 100 days…
  • must have visited at least 50% of days
  • must have replied to at least 10 different topics
  • of topics created in the last 100 days, must have viewed 25% (capped at 500)
  • of posts created in the last 100 days, must have read 25% (capped at 20k)
  • must have received 20 likes, and given 30 likes.*
  • must not have received more than 5 spam or offensive flags (with unique posts and unique users for each, confirmed by a moderator)
    *must not have been suspended
However, it also notes that the admin can change these parameters.

So all of these conditions must remain true for the past 100 days to retain Regular status. It does appear to give much more weight to reading through a wide variety of posts than it gives to the likes.

Well, that should put at ease those posters who believe all their threads have been lost. CAF (Discourse version) hasn’t even been up for the last 100 days.

I don’t see myself being able to consistently maintain that level of commitment, therefore am likely to remain a Member, which is a stable level.

A continual striving to maintain the level of commitment required to remain a Regular,
with its power to silence trolls and correct errors,
threatens to reduce ones freedom to wax and wane according to life’s demands places.
It potentially imposes achievement stress, whether or not that registers with the strongest and most prolific CAFers.

There are CAF members who take everything in their stride.
They shine as all–capable leaders on the forums as well as in their busy lives, whatever their current status. When they join Rose they will make an admirable team.

I do read a lot. Of threads.
iPhones are very useful, or not.🐊

Cardinal Pell is all over the news. It was a mention hearing. He pleads not guilty. Stay tuned.

I am off to Mass and Adoration in the Cathedral, for First Friday. Bet there is more loud fence.

:new_zealand::new_zealand::new_zealand::new_zealand::new_zealand:

Xanthippe , where are the larger number options?

Cardinal Pell pleads not guilty on Multiple historic sexual offences charges.
He will face a 4 week committal hearing in March 2018. 50 witness expected to give evidence.

When you click each side icon-- the burger, the gift, the airplane, etc, each will scroll down quite a bit.

Thank you for your wonderful explanation and the time taken to write this. I very much appreciative of this. I thought the most sensible option would that @Roseeurekacross would have the option to edit other post’s (ie spam etc) have her posts un-editable by lower levels.

It is concerning though that this feature is available in reverse. I can only hope that @Roseeurekacross does get notification when one of her posts have been changed.
