Although I agree with most of what you say, no priest is a ‘mere’ priest…they are the alter christus amongst us. We lose one priest, it is devastating, no matter who the priest is…🙂
Thank you Shoshana for that correction.

I probably conveyed that incorrectly. I love our priests and admire the vocation and keep them in our intentions. A few years ago , I wondered thought about if I had the calling, if I didn’t how am I going to imitate Christ? When I realized I didn’t, I was sad. But there are other ways to act sacrificially too… especially if one is called to be Married, as Christ not only was a priest, but a spouse to his bride, and a sacrificial head…

Certainly those who handle the blood, soul, body and divinity of Christ have special status!

I just think because of Corapi’s vocation, now it seeems, a laicized priest, people put their hopes upon him, BECAUSE he is a priest who spoke well, and that’s what they shouldn’t do.

When I learned of this quote,
""I do not speak rashly, but as I feel and think. I do not think that many priests are saved, but that those who perish are far more numerous. "
  • St. John Chrysotom
I wised up, because I started to put priests on pedestals. To whom much is given, much is expected. I know now we shouldn’t be preoccupied with titles, but judging the wills, and the works of those in respect to their vocation/calling.

He is not a laicized priest at this moment. He is a priest that has been removed from public ministry. This means that he still is a priest that is not allowed to practice public ministry.

Thanks, last week, people were saying he had already been.

The sheepdog website says a “very special announcement” will be made Thursday. Heaven help us.
It is possible he might have a sober statement .

Though I am worried it is just going to be more of a public scandal.

No he was removed from public ministry. He asked not to be called Father and has offered his resignation. Until the official process of laicization (sp?) is done/decided upon it is not done. His community has asked him to come back to community - this being one of the reasons. He has not done this as of yet. A priest cannot just quit being a priest. He can be laicized but there is a process and he must submit to that process.

I do not know what would happen if he never went through the official process of laicization? Maybe indefinite suspension if he just never went back? I don’t know? Someone like JREducation or ByzCath would need to answer that one.

Corapi have been leading a double life to the horror of his followers.
Some people needs to take off their blinders
I don’t see a black sheep here, nor a sheepdog. I only see a wolf.
And of course he will not claim any responsibility.
I’m just telling it how it is, like a straight shooter as I am. 😃

I think it’s more charitable.

The saddest thing, about the public scorn and hurt from Corapi, directed at him as if he is a “big one”
Is not that what he does isn’t wrong.
It’s the other priests who aren’t so public , who also very WORLDLY, people like the priests in Chicago and those involved in Notre Dame who have worldly ambitions. Corapi has personal sins, and he certainly deceived some people. Yet nobody in the Catholic General Media is uncovering, or ballyhooeing (outside of Michael Voris lol) these other priests who have even different and more malevolent agenda under the guise of “for good” or "for poverty. Corapi , what he did was bad, but there is a tinge of sensationalism, about his personal sins when he is no exception.

At least he wasn’t complicit with homosexual errors and community organizing in his ministry. His problem were with his personal sins and personal ambitions of ego. If he didn’t make a terrible decision to go public, it could have been like Fr. Euteneur’s situation…I still don’t believe Corapi should be sensationalized as the worst example of a “bad priest”

Somehow, I can’t see The Black Sheepdog tweeting, “I am going back to my order with my tail between my legs…”

🤷

I am just so sad about all this. The thing that really saddens me the most is the people who have attached so much of their salvation to this one man. He was only the conduit for Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We Catholics should NEVER get so attached to a personality. I cringe when I see Joel Osteen on television playing the humble Man of God persona, and all his devotees holding up their Bibles. Corapi may have gotten too big for himself and believed his own publicity. But there is NO excuse for him leading “his sheep” away from the Church, no excuse whatsoever. He needs to stop this, and now.
The sad thing is, if he did post that he was going back to his order, almost everyone (except for the extreme people on both sides) would be happy, even impressed with him. 😦

Perhaps he is going to tell us that he is dropping all of his suits, selling off his assetts, and will join the SOLT in a life of quiet obscurity until such time as he is fit to preach again…

God help us.

There were always people or comments who had “red flags” about him, I never judged him as I felt, “well it’s good what he says” especially when he went after things like homosexuality and abortion and he had some good words.

I am an admirer of Fulton Sheen, so I never was really too impressed with Fr. Corapi, I preferred listening to Sheen tapes. I also noticed Corapi, would kind of cheat or lift a lot of Sheen’s talks derivatively, he would credit Sheen from time to time, but other times the delivery, came off almost like crib notes rather than inspiration. I think that’s why lots of people liked him, because Corapi brought back the refreshing candor, that were reflected from Sheen’s tapes and telecasts to people who may have not known Sheen. Sheen got his inspiration from hourly devotion to the blessed sacraments…

While a priest is good to talk about their experiences encounters with people, Sheen did it, and he had his own weaknesses with Vanity, but he also suffered from it too, in a contrite manner. But he talked a lot about his friends too.

Corapi’s “straight talk was refreshing” and he would kind of tap into an appeal because he would address things people were yearning for from the watered down homilies. However, in the details, perhaps he always had a certain angle.

Although we do become more sober.
There is an important clarification that must be made here in the name of justice. Fr. Tom Euteneur has not left the priesthood and has not been dismissed from the clerical state. A statement by his bishop said:
  1. Father admitted to inappropriate behavior.
  2. Father is no longer involved in said relationship.
  3. Father is suspended, not penalized.
  4. Father is contrite and apparently receiving the sacraments.
  5. He remains a part of his diocese.
  6. He is undergoing counseling to decide what HE wants to do. The Church is not taking action against him.
If he decides that he wants to remain in ministry, the question becomes where and what are the conditions… Obviously, the bishop can choose to leave the suspension in place for an extended period of time as a penance. None of that has been decided. If it has been, it has not been shared with the public . . . as far as I know. 🤷

Notice the very different approach between the two men.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

I think we should all pray to St. Therese that this is what he will say.

Remember, the heart of St. Therese’s vocation was to pray for priests. She loved them so much, and still does, I’m sure.

Of course, this may be the wrong decision, I don’t know. But I can’t see how it would be the wrong decision. 🤷

Many thanks, Brother.

I hope as well that when Fr. C submits to the
authority of his superiors, he is given a full medical screening.

I prefer the quiet approach myself. This whole thing reminds me of when my parents divorced, all the “he did this” and “she did that” nonsense.

Yes, I never said anything about Fr. Euteneur leaving the priesthood. I just posted the picture to show Fr. Corapi’s marketable status.

Yes, it certainly is noticeable.

Fr. Corapi apparently was once a spiritual adviser to Fr. Euteneur…

It seems SOLT is the one in the right by logic and facts alone. *Some * not all of Corapi’s fans are acting weird and try to ignore this and slamming Father Sheehan and the superiors.
Doesn’t seem like good fruits. People need to take the right side, and not be divided. I’d say give Corapi up to God already and his superiors and be done with it.

Amen…and St. John Vianney, too.

Kind of like a divorce…but more of a mudslinging contest.
