New US Bishops: Dallas and Lake Charles

Pope Benedict XVI named two US bishops this morning, namely:

Grahmann retired, Farrell named Dallas Bishop

Bishop Charles Victor Grahmann retired and Bishop Kevin Joseph Farrell was named Bishop of Dallas, Texas, USA. Bishop Farrell had been serving as an Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, District of Columbia.

Provost named Lake Charles Bishop

Bishop-elect Glen John Provost was named Bishop of Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. The diocese had been vacant since Bishop Edward Kenneth Braxton was named Bishop of Belleville, Illinois in March 2005.

Thank God we finally have a Bishop!!! May he be orthodox and strong in his convictions of the faith. Lord have mercy on us who have had faithful priests chased to the outskirts of town may they be blessed with the appointment of this new Bishop.**
 
I hope we soon have a new bishop here in Montana, but we’ve only been waiting since July so I’m guessing it may be a while yet 😦
 
Finally, Dallas has a new bishop!
Can anyone provide some insight on Bishop Kevin Joseph Farrell ? I am especially interested in any past teachings on Natural Family Planning. This teaching has been largely ignored in the Dallas Diocese for many years.

Bishop Grahmann announced his retirement in July as well!! Your Bishop could be closer then you think!

It could be. My bishop retired early because of health concerns so our diocese wasn’t necessarily on the radar scope for those planning ahead. He doesn’t turn 75 for another year and a half.

Finally! It’s been almost 2 years. And I’m sure Bishop-elect Glen John Provost is a good priest, as he’s pastor of Our Lady of Fatima in Lafayette, La. and they are supposed to have a great Liturgy, although I have never been there.
 
Just a quick follow up: Bishop Farrell will be installed on 1 May. Bishop-elect Provost will be consecrated on 23 April.
 
I’ve heard that he is to replace the bishop in Dallas, TX. Does anyone know if he is a liberal?

It is Bishop Kevin Farrell. He is originally from Ireland. He was originally a priest of the Legionaries of Christ, so, almost certainly not a liberal.

If you notice, the Vatican doesn’t really ever appoint liberal bishops anymore.

That’s GREAT news!!! Maybe he will let the TLM(BTW it’s an indult) churchgoers have a Church of there own. Right now they have mass on Sunday at a tiny monestary chapel. I don’t go because I’m claustrophobic. It’s REALLY small.

Looks like a great Bishop to me, how many Bishops have a Bishop for a brother who works at the Vatican?

Legionaires of Christ, are usually very faithful to the Magisterium turn out to be strong Priests. This probably was a good start for him in his formation as a Priest. My brother who left the Legionaires, was formed by them and if anything else, they help give you a backbone, which is what we need from Priests and Bishops these days.

Don’t get too excited. I read all the articles the paper had on him today, and it said that he is for illegal immigration (or, at least, doesn’t care folks who do it - at least that was my understanding), and that he left the “Legionaires of Christ” due to “intellectual [doctrinal?] differences.”

However, I read a quote of his on the Iraq war, which seemed to have hinted his belief in staying, so maybe there is some hope for us conservatives.

Regardless, it sounds like hes at least got the administrative skills.

I have been to this Mass and it is very tiny inside!!

Bishop Grahmann did his best to shut down the Latin Mass in Dallas but it has stayed alive through Fr. Paul Weinberger who was outcast to the outskirts of the diocese. Thank God for this faithful priest or many of us would not even have a proper Mass to go to.
