New York senator: ‘my priest embraced me’ after voting for gay ‘marriage’

State Senator Jim Alesi told a crowd gathered to celebrate the passage of same-sex “marriage” in New York that his priest embraced him and gave him Holy Communion when he attended Mass after voting to pass the legislation.

The event at which the senator spoke was sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, and took place in Manhattan four days after the New York Senate voted to legalize same-sex “marriage.”

After taking the microphone to loud applause and shouting, Alesi told the revelers, “that’s exactly what it sounded like when I went to Mass Sunday.”

“I went to Mass Sunday in my church and I was so warmly received. It doesn’t matter what religion you are, but I know in my religion, when I went up to receive Communion, my priest embraced me,” he said.

Alesi represents the 55th District of New York, which is in the Diocese of Rochester.

“The best story is the reverend on the right that was praying for marriage equality, and the reverend on the left that was praying against gay marriage. They were praying to the same God. That created a dilemma for God and it created a dilemma for me. He said ‘Jimmy, you’re on your own,’” Alesi joked, adding: “I think we did the right thing.”

i find it hard to believe that these politicians know not what they do. :confused:

Archbishop Sheen said: “God has His day; and Satan has his hour.”. He`s certainly living it up in his “hour”. :mad:

There is no dilemma for God. “Gay marriage” does not exist except as a legal fiction created by the state.

Sacrilege, scandal as he’s trying to deviously send the message that the Church (his priest being a representative of that Church) is okay with homosexual “marriage”. If I were the Bishop, I’d ask the priest to come and and have a meeting with me and order him to publicly retract and apologize for this. What resort does the Bishop have if the priest boldly stands by his position and won’t budge? I think it’d be better to have 10 Jean Vianneys then to have many times that number of priests with unorthodox views.

That and more than that. 🙂

I’m starting to believe that priests who openly defy and preach (by word or by example) in opposition to core Church teachings such as traditional marriage, while representing their defiance as if it is in union with Christ’s Church, need to return to a special evening seminary just for them, at the end of their day’s work. Either they are confused in their theological understanding, or their seminary training was lacking in its thoroughness or orthodoxy. In either case, it’s time for corrective catechesis. Otherwise, they will continue to mislead their flocks and perpetuate the massive catechetical problem among the laity that is itself in need of correction.

Naturally this is completely separate and different from priests who show good pastoral practice by reaching out to the homosexual community in and around their parishes, by approachability and by kindness, with ministries to those who are trying to live chastely with their SSA. Those are the priests who should be upheld as Christ-like examples of loving behavior, not those who teach in opposition to Christ’s Chruch.
 
What I notice about two of the ‘Catholic’ politicans Alesi and Andrew Cuomo is that they really don’t seem to care about the Church’s teaching on gay ‘marriage’, read Mareen Dowd’s interview with Andrew Cuomo after gay ‘marriage’ became legalised. Stop Communion for pro abortion an pro gay ‘mariage’ politcians.

And we cry out to God: How long O Lord, are you let the proud make a mockery of your Church?

People got the idea of “my Church” and this means they can do whatever they want since this Church is theirs possession. I keep saying it is not your church, it is God’s Church. The Apostles never refered to the Church is “our Church”. it is wrong to trying to take over the Church of God.
 
the senator must be excommunicated and the priest suspended until he can be educated.

But take a read…there is a lot more to the whole New York State SSM thing than meets the eye. And it is not good. Archbishop Dolan of NYC is the one in mostly the spotlight, but the Bishop of the senator’s diocese, Rochester? I have called him a lost sheep on these forums before, but Peters’ article and some of the links from his comboxes suggests it goes way beyond that.

Pray for Rochester’s Bishop, that he have the fortitude to do his job as the shephard of the souls there. He needs your prayers.

I was going to ask which diocese the senator was in. The bishops of NY (Dolan) and Brooklyn (DiMarzio) are solid. Some of the others, not so much.

I have met the Bishop of Rochester several times. He is a very friendly man, however, his leadership has not been the best. For example, Mass attendence in the diocese has decreased something like 25% in the last 10 years. Also, many Catholic schools have been shut down.

In fairness (I do not know this bishop), the country at large has suffered a 25% decline in Mass attendance, overall versus just one year ago, IIRC. (Don’t have the links handy.) Thus, the Rochester case may or may not be due to episcopal leadership. In one parish near me (different State), the parish Mass attendance has paralleled the national overall decline (22-25%, I believe). And in that case I would not attribute it to ‘lack of leadership.’

And theres the constant danger that well be worn down by the seeming lack of leadership and good example. Don`t you get sick of it! 😦
 
Obviously this supposed priest is in direct opposition to the teachings and truth of Holy Mother Church and needs to be corrected.

Where is the Catholic Church Leadership?

The good people of Rochester have suffered greatly due to this bishop’s lack of spiritual leadership. As someone previously noted, there is a whole website devoted to the lack of orthodoxy in the diocese of Rochester:

I have close family that hails from there. It’s not fun living there if you’re an orthodox Catholic.
