Deaths have flatlined:

There is also a mass testing program starting today, to determine the extent in the community. It is currently a mystery how this family got the virus after 102 covid free days.

There’s 174 countries where Americans can travel without a visa.

The city has moved into alert level 3 while the rest of the country is in alert level 2.
Details of what each level means:

Is it possible to delay elections in New Zealand?

This 52nd Parliament will expire on the 13th of October.

The House can’t sit or pass laws or hold question time once the Parliament is dissolved
But even if Parliament is dissolved it could actually be called back by the Governor General if, say, it needed to pass emergency legislation. It could do this until it ‘expires’ when it hits its three year time limit

It hasn’t happened before though so it would be new territory.
If MPs wanted to keep sitting beyond October 13th but delay the election […], they would need to change the Constitution Act before Parliament expired which would require 75 percent of MPs to agree.

Parliament extended itself twice during World War One, but the law was a bit different then.
I really can’t believe this actually happened:
In 1946 Parliament forgot to the mark the calendar, forgot the previous election had been earlier than usual and accidentally ran for two extra months.

In most cases the New Zealand Parliament can perform “constitutional reform” simply by passing acts of Parliament, and thus has the power to change or abolish elements of the constitution.

The NZ suspect entry point is a frozen foods place the father of the family worked at. It is an American company and the thought at themoment is the virus came in on plastic packaging on frozen foods from overseas.
China has had a similar experience with frozen foods spreading the virus.

DNA virus tracking should yield an answer pretty fast, the deputy pm is convinced its from a quarantine breach.

make fun if it pleases you, but eventually almost everybody will get Covid 19 in this country and in New Zealand also. All any country can really do is prevent unmanageable spikes.

Most of the named countries block all foreign visitors, not just Americans.

But of those who specifically block American travelers, the following are curious because their Covid rates per capita are considerably higher than ours: Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Italy. One of those EU things, I guess. Can’t let you into Belgium because you might go to Germany or something. Britain has a much higher Covid rate, but it’s not blocked.

Seems like per capita isn’t as significant as having the greatest number of cases and deaths in the #1 superpower country.

It shouldn’t be that way, though obviously Democrats want people to think of it in that way.

Sorry if I caused offense. But you have surely seen that repeated endlessly on here in a partisan way.

Dr Bloomfield added 38 people linked to the new Auckland cluster, including confirmed cases and household members of those infected have been moved to a quarantine facility.
Theory one: Jumping quarantine
The most obvious explanation is that COVID-19 was brought back into the country by a returning traveller, but then managed to leapfrog the defences at a quarantine centre. […] [NZ’s deputy PM said] he thought a quarantine breach was the source of the outbreak. […] When pressed as to where he got his information, he said it was from a journalist, but that he wouldn’t be elaborating.
Theory two: Freight
COVID-19 survives longer in cooler, temperature-controlled environments and there are reports coming out of China that traces of coronavirus have been found on freight at ports coming from overseas. However, there’s been no documented cases of someone being infected by these traces. Epidemiologist Mary-Louise McLaws from the University of New South Wales said conditions would have to be perfect for an infectious level of the virus to survive on freight between countries. […] She said the half-life of coronavirus was about eight hours “in perfect lab conditions” and even if traces of coronavirus were found on freight, it did not mean it would be concentrated enough to infect someone.
Theory three: It never went away
Professor McLaws thinks this is highly unlikely, and that at least some cases would have had symptoms and presented to medical authorities.

However, epidemiologist Catherine Bennett from Deakin University told the ABC it was still a possibility.

“We do know you get asymptomatic cases and we do know while it can spread really rapidly, it can be sitting in a community without going into large workplaces or aged care or other places that might signal the presence of the virus in the community,” she said.

Both professors said all roads pointed to a quarantine breach, but authorities will be very nervous until they know for sure.
