Most troubling are the ignorant and bigoted readers’ comments.
I don’t go there anymore. While I don’t subscribe the the “hiding of one’s head in the sand” principle, I find no redeeming qualities in that media venue.

How has the past couple weeks been in Saginaw? Is Bishop Cistone settling in?

Well, I guess I’m not qualified to make an overall statement for things in Saginaw the last couple weeks, only that it is getting increasingly difficult to get around, through, and across town with all the road, highway, expressway, and street construction!

Ecclesially, the Sisters of Mercy are working hard to establish communal Liturgy of the Hours prayer and Eucharistic Adoration at the Cathedral along with the St Dominic Chapel.

Bishop Cistone is scheduled to be installed July 18th at St. Stephens in Saginaw. Not sure what all went into the decision NOT to have the installation Mass at the Cathedral, but can hazard some guesses.

-It will probably be quite HOT around here then (only big noisey fans in the Cathedral)

-St Stephens has a greater seating capacity

-The new Bishop is dissing the Cathedral Parish Community because we didn’t give him a
grand and glorious reception when he made his first visit.

Of course that last guess is entirely in jest. From all indications the new Bishop is enthused about working with the Cathedral Parish Community, the Sisters of Mercy who are now resident on the Cathedral Campus, and totally committed to the renovation process for the Cathedral itself.

I did hear that the Bishop was going to be in town (Saginaw) this week for some pre-installation stuff.

Bishop Cistone’s installation is taking place at St. Stephen because of the larger seating capacity and air conditioning.

I can’t for the life of me understand why the Diocese hasn’t installed A/C at the Cathedral. It will be expensive, no doubt, but come on – it’s the Cathedral!

The interior renovations are on hold for now, not just because of the change in bishops, but because the economy likely wouldn’t produce the kind of money it would take for the job.

And no, A/C isn’t on the list this time, either.

Really? I had heard that he was being installed on July 28th at the Cathedral. I think that’s the same date he was originally ordained as a bishop.

It is July 28th…but it’s at St Stephens…

Yes is is. Kept seeing that date cropping up in the posts after mine and went back and looked. Much to my dismay I had typed July 18th…gasp! What does Proverbs say, “there is much wisdom in many counselors?”

As you can see by these pictures the new Tabernacle is still in place. Didn’t have time to ask any questions this morning, but hope to talk to some folks in the know this evening. I’ll try to remember to get some pictures of the Tabernacle in St Dominic Chapel on Monday, along with some of it’s history.

As for questions on the renovation. No official statements or plans have been revealed to the public as of yet that would reflect any particular intent, but there have been many hints in various off-the-cuff conversations that would indicate a more traditional theme. This includes conversations with the incoming bishop.
Just curious, the new Taberbacle sits where “Ballerina Mary” once graced the Cathedral. What happened to the statue? Was it relocated?

Ahhh…good question. I was going to ask that one myself a few weeks ago when I noticed that the statue was conspicuously missing from the Marian Chapel. I’ll try to remember and ask that question. I can tell you that it currently is nowhere in sight in any of public areas of the Cathedral Campus.

IIRC, Ballerina Mary is now in the area that formerly housed the tabernacle.

When was the last time you noticed it there? Unless they put it back there in the last week or two, it is missing from that space.

To be honest, I’m not sure when I saw it in there – it could have been in February, or at the end of May.

The statue in question is in temporary storage. It is not likely that it will reappear anywhere on the Cathedral Campus in the near future, nor the far future either.

Well, we all know everyone’s taste in art is different. I think my taste leans towards being the same as whoever has put this statue in temporary storage. I hope that the funds become available soon to somplete the interior renovations at the Cathedral. It is in such dire need of a facelift on some type.

Were there any protesters from SNAP or any other organizations at either vespers or the installation Mass?

I appreciate the link to the Bishop’s installation homily, as I was unable to listen to the TV broadcast of the installation.

He mentioned vocations a couple times as a priority. That gives me some hope.

I was encouraged when B. Carlson came in, emphasizing GIRM and orthodoxy. The news about B. Cistone in the Bay City papers doesn’t really tell much about Cistone. They quoted him as saying his mother was worried about whether he needed dishes. Oh, great. What journalism.

Carlson was an expert in Canon Law. I don’t know what, if any, specialties Cistone has. Is he a theologian, perhaps?

Carlson was in Minneapolis, right? He never told us about the Jucy Lucy. I had to learn about that on the Food Channel. I was hoping the news would catch Cistone eating a Philly steak sandwich, homemade or otherwise – just for the human interest angle.

My expectations of Cistone are set at zero right now. I would be delightfully pleased if I had some idea of where he was headed.
