Have you seen this statement yet from Bishop Carlson on Preparing for the Nov. 4th General Election? Perhaps it will be in church bulletins across the diocese.

Also, Fr. Z got ahold of it and comments on it at his blog here:

Excellent!

I am very glad to see Bishop Carlson of Saginaw speaking out against abortion and Proposal 2 / Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

It’s also good to read about Bishop Boyea of Lansing addressing the same issues and publicly correcting (as Fr Z states ) “the dreadful pro-abortion but “Catholic” Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm (D-MI)”.

May the Holy Spirit intercede for us, we can not have embryonic stem cell research, proposal 2 pass in this state.
LIFE< LOVE>CREATION. We are not God, if we think we are, I fear that God will abandon us…

I know that Bishop Carlson is distributing a letter about proposal 2, urging all Catholics this weekend to vote for Life. It is the foundation to all other issue. People think that abortion somehow does not effect them, because they can not SEE it. Some Catholics believe that there are other more important or pressing issues, There are other extremely important issues, and we do not have much to choose from, but LIFE , IS THE CORE VALUE, it is the corner stone. From what I understand over 50 million abortions have been performed in this country since ROE v Wade.

Bishop Carlson spoke strongly about this issue at the Evangelization meeting last Saturday that was held at the center for ministry with representatives from each parish. He stated that he is releasing a statement this weekend so that we can be reminded, so it first and foremost in our mind, what we value as Catholics.

This proposal 2 and pro choice stance threatens our very existence.

May God Help Us.

Not to change the current topic, but P.K.T.P. over at WDTPRS raises an interesting point:

“I note that the Diocese of Saginaw is now one of the most populous U.S. dioceses which does not have an every-Sunday Traditional Latin Mass. In fact, to my recollection, it does not have such a Mass on any basis at all. Some time ago, Bsp. Carlson remarked that there were not priests in his Diocese who were willing and able to say it. I hope that he considers doing something about this. The Diocese of Gaylord to the north and those of Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids, not to mention the local Metropolitan Archdiocese, all have the old Mass every Sunday. Time to join the club, Saginaw!”

So is there any news regarding the Extraordinary Form in Saginaw?

I can only pray that we do not take God out of this frightening passage of proposal 2. I pray that somehow we realize what we have done, and I pray that God can bring Good out of it. Somehow.

I pray that all Catholics voted their conscience: I know that the Bishops in this State collectively took a strong stance on this issue and stated so.

I pray that all Catholic leaders did absolutely everything in their power to translate the importance of what this means to their parishioners, to humanity.

I am not so sure that happened.

In the purest sense of the term UFO, which means “something in the air that you can’t identify at once,” people who fly a lot see them all the time.

“What the heck was that?” is a common utterance on the flight deck. We usually find out later that it was something not to be surprised about at all. Your eyes get tired, and the atmosphere creates all kinds of weird images.

I think it is worth noting that in the territory covered by the diocese, Prop. 2 was defeated, with only 43% or so voting yes. According to Catholic-Hierarchy.org, in 2004 the population of the counties making up the diocese was about 19-20% Catholic.

Also – the vote difference in favor of no in the diocese was more than made up for by the vote difference in favor of yes in Wayne County alone. In fact, the measure passed big time in Wayne, Ingham (East Lansing), and Washtenaw (Ann Arbor) counties, and when those 3 combine forces, they tend to overrule the rest of the state. The same thing happened when Granholm was re-elected in 2004.

When the marriage amendment was passed, Wayne County actually voted for it, while the other two of the “liberal big 3” counties voted against. That was what essentially made the difference that time.

Hot off the press, well, not really, not to the press as of yet, but there is a fundamental change coming to the interior of the Cathedral, hopefully to be implemented prior to the Feast of Christ the King this current year. Can’t say what is is yet, but can say it doesn’t involve kneelers. Traditionalists, however should be pleased with the change.
Any news yet on what the change might be?

There was however an insert in the bulletin that is part one of a three part catechesis that is preceding the change.

What is done now? What are the planned changes?
The way it is looking, the change(s) will be made at or by the time of the delivery of the third part of the catechesis, but that is only an assumption on my part and based on the timing previously discussed. A side note is, that this is a change that was mandated by the Bishop sometime ago, and it is only the many difficulties, challenges (some health related), and other time consuming diocesan duties of the rector that have held up the project. Please pray for the rector; one priest among few, who have given full allegiance to the bishop. He has taken many “bullets”, both from the laity and from holy orders in seeking to follow the orders of the bishop in the obedience of faith.
