Haha!:d
Thanks for the report.Darn…I posted pertaining the farewell mass shortly after getting home from the reception that followed, but came on later and it had not posted. Anyway, it was a great mass, a great homily and yes the bishop was emotional at the end of his homily. He barely managed to finish it and as he stepped down from the ambo his face was contorted as he struggled unsuccessfully to hold back a flood of tears.
The mass was wonderfully attended, with an abundance of religious sisters, seminarians, and area celebrities, secular as well as ecclesial. I was delighted to see a Missionaries of Charity sister there also. She made a beeline for the tabernacle after entering the worship space. There was also a large contingent of Knights of Columbus.
Related…we were astonished to find a brand spanking new, tabernacle in the sanctuary, it is marvelous. Another parting gift from the bishop. All overlaid with precious metals, gold galore. The sancristan said it weighed well over three hundred pounds and took considerably more than two men and a truck to get it into place.
The bishop also was at the 5:30 mass for regional confirmations. Another great homily, one tailored especially for those adults, about thirty, being confirmed. We are going to miss him sooooo much.
I’m working from memory, but I think this is pretty darn close:Awesome pictures. The tabernacle is clearly a tabernacle, though! I was expecting worse than that. Its obviously a 1970’s design, but one can tell its the tabernacle!
I want to see pictures of the new tabernacle!!!
Oh come now…the other one was just as fitting…different perhaps…but why does everything ‘suitable for the lord’ have to look like it was made in 1500 AD?Gorgeous! This is a much more fitting home for the Lord.
The one I saw in the church had *Sanctus Sanctus Sanctus *across the top and angels. Was that just a temporary? The Tabernacle pictured a few posts back is similar to the new one, but only in shape. I heard that the new tabernacle was only on display for the bishop’s farewell Mass and that it will go back into storage until the renovation of the worship space achieves a certain degree of completion. I’m not sure about the origin of the tabernacle in the St Dominic Chapel, but I can get the history on it.
The one you saw is the new tabernacle. I have not as yet confirmed whether or not it will be going back into storage. I have heard from a pretty good source that the new bishop has declared he is fully on board with the renovation plans. When and how it is going to happen has not yet been made public, but it was stated by the same source that the new bishop is known to be skilled at fund raising. The one I saw in the church had *Sanctus Sanctus Sanctus *across the top and angels. What is in the plans for worship space renovations? Anything made public on those plans yet?
What exactly are the renovation plans?I have heard from a pretty good source that the new bishop has declared he is fully on board with the renovation plans.
I don’t know exactly, but I have heard that the Archbishop’s plans were to move away from the theater look and return to a more traditional look, pews rather than chairs, mosaics in the ceiling panels, altar moved back to the original sanctuary. What exactly are the renovation plans?
