Well, I’m going from memory, but as I recall;

He did say that Catholics could vote for pro-choice candidates, if abortion was not the sole reason for voting for that candidate, and the alternative candidate had other issues.

Arroyo challenged him on this, and said that it was confusing.

He also said, Catholics could chose not to vote.

Jim
I don’t recall him ever wording it that way, but I will watch again. I urge you to as well. (I’m showing it on my Dish Network listing - Monday 8/25 at 7AM and 8PM PST). I have also requested from EWTN and Raymond Arroyo that they link a transcript, so we can be very clear. I will start a thread if they do this.

One section was in regards to a situation where the two choices (i.e. major candidates) are pro-choice. He said we could choose between those two candidates based on other moral issues, or we could vote for a third party, or we could choose not to vote.

I was particularly pleased to hear him say that, because there have been some on CAF who have told me that my voting choice in the presidential election is not a viable Catholic choice because he is not 100% on the non-negotiables. The Archbishop clearly bebunked this falsehood, and for that I am very thankful.

rlg,
one of these days I’ll remember that I have a DVR box and can record programs too. 😃

Jim

Perhaps I am 🤷

Is not the penalty for abortion excommunication

And if you are excommunicated aren’t you basically kicked out of the church

And if you’re not part of the one true catholic church aren’t you doomed anyways

If that’s not what catholics believe then oops on me, I’ve been misinformed.
Agnostic, if you would honestly like to learn more about what the Church teaches, rather than wandering a bit aimlessly around a web site, there are a couple of very good books that I would recommend. They are very readable and not preachy.

What Catholics Really Believe by Karl Keeting. A quick easy read about Cahtolic teachings. arranged in a Q&A format. Available here.

Catholicism for Dummies for Fathers Trugilio and Brighenti. Also and easy read. Includes information about Catholic devotions, prayers and rituals as well. Available here.

Very few do anymore. When the only response you can get to a question is a variation on men are evil, the church is evil and you are ignorant there really is not much reason to continue the discussion with that person.
Men are evil and women are too weak to control their own lives. Somebody needs to tell that to Hillary, Nancy and Condie ( I only agree with one, but the other two are nobody’s weak sisters)

The easy social fix, including the horror of abortion, never fixes anything for the child, and rarely for anyone else.

I will pray for the woman, but not engage her.😦

Keep your prayers honey, and add me to your ignore list. Please. 👍
I say again, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and to wheel out names like Hillary Clinton and Condie Rice as some sort of argument is so ridiculous it defies comment.

All you are able to do is trot out garbage you read in a politically correct book somewhere and catch the bumper of the big church bus as she rolls on by. You have ZERO experience or concept of what these women and young girls go through and yet you would dare presume to lecture them from your suffocating platform of moral superiority.

Your comment about equality of pay earlier demonstrates clearly and beyond any shadow of a doubt you have not got the slightest idea about womens issues and you call yourself a feminist  That’s the difference between you and me. I don’t call my self anything. I don’t need a tag

You disgust me 😦

Agnostic,
I noticed that you ignored most of my post and only responded
to how you are providing help to the women. (Thank you) But does
the education you provide give them the opportunity to view a
sonagram? And do you ask them if they are being forced to have
the abortion? And what it would take for them not to make that
choice?
By the way, agnostic is a description of someone
who doesn’t know whether or not there is a God. We might just
be trying to pray for you to solve that quandary, we want to share
the beauty and peace many of us find in knowing HIM.

Tex if I missed something it’s because I’m being bombarded left right and centre and might lose track of stuff being slung at me. I never ever knowingly duck a question.

Viewing a sonagram

Yes. Of course. It’s part of their medical care. And it has happened that when the girl was further on than she thought, and had the ultrasound, she became totally swept up with the idea of the baby inside her and decided she could NOT go through with the abortion. That was her CHOICE and we supported her through that.

Are the girls asked if they are being forced to have an abortion

Yes.

Are they asked what it would take NOT to have the abortion

No.

Not in those terms as that question asked like that is loaded with presuppositions.

If it transpires that they are being forced to have an abortion, or feel forced into having an abortion, they are worked with with a team of experts to help THEM figure out for THEMSELVES, what they would need to happen in order for them to go to a successful full term.

We then put in place these resources, and as I said earlier, we have done far more to help these girls to keep their babies than a lot of so called pro life people - unless you count ranting and raving, assault, arson and attempted murder as constructive (name removed by moderator)ut  😛
It’s about the woman’s right to choose - and part of that right is the right to choose to keep the baby.

As to the Agnostic and prayers - most reading this will not get the reference now as the post I wrote has been removed 😃

I’m fully aware of what Agnostic means. I chose the name purposefully.

My remarks, in the post directed to maggiemay2u, was deemed too uncharitable to be allowed to stand. Fair enough - it’s your board guys and your rules 👍

I just hope maggiemay2u got the chance to read it before it was sent into oblivion. I equally hope that the ‘‘uncharitable’’ remarks directed to me have duly been noted and those equally admonished 👍

If that’s the case - hey - lets start ‘‘THE 5 POINTERS CLUB’’ 😛 😛

(Mods - it’s my sense of humour - don’t beat on me no more - I got the message 👍)

PLEASE, CAN WE PLEASE STOP ENGAGING AGNOSTIC IN CONVERSATION. SHE HAS GOTTEN US COMPLETELY OFF TRACK.

WHY WOULD ANYONE THINK THEY COULD WIN ANY DEBATE WITH HER OR CHANGE HER MIND IN ANY WAY.

😦

Most of us have. but it only takes one to keep her going.

This is a textbook example of derailing a thread.

So to get back on track are the Kansas Bishops the only ones who have come out and said this or have others joined in? Have they said anything about the VP contender who claims to be Catholic?

I have answered questions people asked me. So no, I haven’t derailed the thread, the posters asking me questions unrelated to the thread title have.

Archbishop Chaput came out with a very strong statement against the comments made by Nancy Pelosi yesterday. I am pleased to see how much attention abortion is getting so far in this election cycle. Pro-abortion Catholic politicians are very seldom grilled on their position on abortion and it is fun to watch him squirm as they try to reconcile their position with the teachings of their church.

Yes I always thought it was funny when someone like him or the previous presidential contender claims to be Catholic and then Pro-Choice. Its an oxymoron. I don’t know how anyone could justify being Christian and Pro-Choice, or supportive of a Pro-Choice candidate. It is opposite ends of the spectrum.

The ignore option works well.😃

So, we only talk to people who think exactly the way we do?? How do we hope to change anyone’s mind if we put everyone who dares to disagree on ignore?

I think you know I preety much talk to everybody. But if you go back and read her posts in this thread you see there isabsolutely no attempt to have a discussion. Every post was met with another pro-abortion cliché or another rant about evil men. I don’t put anyone on the ignore list but I dont waste my time responding to her post anymore

If we keep this on topic and move the other discussion to a new thread just for that one other topic …

… Apart from the Kansas Bishops and Archbishop Chaput, which other bishops have spoken out specifically on abortion as a voting issue.

The correct course of action would be to start a new thread on which to discuss the issue. 👍

Pray for the Kansas bishops; they are holy men and need our continued prayers of support!!
